It’s pretty amazing how many simple products from our kitchen can actually make a huge impact on our skin. What’s even better is that these homemade treatments won’t contain any of the damaging preservatives or chemicals that may be found in conventional skin care products. Plain yogurt makes a great moisturizing treatment when applied as a mask. Just slather it on, let sit for 5-10 minutes and rinse thoroughly. I personally like to blend mine with blueberries or strawberries for an extra antioxidizing kick!

Lemon juice makes a great toner for oily or acne prone skin and it’s high vitamin C content make it wonderfully brightening. Using lemon as a toner is as easy as swiping a fresh slice across your face!

Bananas are a wonder fruit when it comes to at-home skin care. They can moisturize the skin, reduce oiliness and prevent wrinkles all at the same time! Mash up half a ripe banana, spread all over your face, let sit for 10-15 minutes and rinse.

Allison’s Cult Favorite Beauty Product Wishlist

When I’m scrolling through my Pinterest feed, I always see the same products with the same ‘miracle!’ and ‘best product ever’ descriptions. Seeing review after review has definitely led me to believe that I may be missing out on a few products—I mean, thousands of reviews can’t be wrong, right? Here are a few products that I’ve seen floating around that I can’t wait to try…

1. Kiehl’s Soy, Milk and Honey Whipped Body Butter | 2. Living Proof Restore Mask Treatment | 3. Glamglow Supermud Clearing Treatment | 4. Mason Pearson Bristle Brush | 5. MAC Lipstick in Ruby Woo | 6. Seche Vite Top Coat | 7. Dior Addict Lip Glow | 8. Frederic Fekkai Glossing Styling Creme

1. While I normally just use a bit of coconut oil after I get out of the shower, I am looking for something a little heavier to keep my skin smooth and hydrated before it gets too chilly. Kiehl’s body butter isn’t too thick or sticky, but manages to hydrate and leave skin smooth. An added plus is that it isn’t formulated with parabens, which can be difficult to find with a body cream. Countless reviews have also remarked on how great the product smells—and that’s a wonderful incentive for me to remember to apply it every day!

2. I’ve recently colored my hair, and I’m definitely in need of a great hair treatment that I can use once a week to help repair damage. Living Proof has a wonderful reputation for quality hair products (their hairsprays are top notch), so it’s no surprise that their mask treatment has been so highly regarded. This mask contains PolyfluoroEster, which increases hair’s resistance to breakage up to nine times. I also love that it is sulfate-free, so it won’t dull my color.

What’s In My Bag: 10 Items I Always Carry in My Purse

1. Instant Nail Polish Remover Wipes: For a nail polish fanatic like myself, remover is a must. I always carry it wherever I go because these wipes are an easy fix for my more weathered manicures.

2. 1.25 Oz Vaseline Jelly Original: I never leave the house without a container of vaseline. I can easily use it as lip therapy, hand protectant, moisturizer, and make up remover. It soothes the skin and does the best job at wiping away the most stubborn of makeup.

3. Polka Dot Compact: Like most girls, I reapply my makeup throughout the day. I’m constantly touching up blemishes and darkening my eyeliner to help me look my best. A compact mirror, which is small enough to fit within the confines of my purse, helps me magnify the spots I need to retouch.

4. Powerocks Super Magicstick 2800mAh Portable Charger : My smartphone is the worst at holding its battery, which is why a portable charger comes in handy. This item restores my phone’s juice while I’m on the go. It makes sure I’m never without a life line.

Girl Crush: Julia Sarr-Jamois

Julia Sarr-Jamois is the fashion editor at large for i-D Magazine, queen of European street style, and my role model. It wasn’t until SS12 that the fashion industry (and I) took notice of her. That season, she wore a fuzzy blue Net-A-Porter coat and starred in a Tibi campaign, and since then her presence has been duly noted.

The fashion industry is dominated by Caucasian individuals, so my love for the industry has wavered time and time again. As a middle-class African American women, I am part of the industry’s under-represented population. However, Julia Sarr-Jamois has made me optimistic again. Her editorial position at i-D makes her a serious player in the fashion game, while her effortless beauty and eccentric style makes her admired. However, the main reason I’m in awe of her is because isn’t afraid to be herself; her amazing hair, which she choses to wear natural, is evidence of that.

Most Korean Women Use More Than 10 Skincare Products Daily

I’m no stranger to Korean skincare products because my mom has always used them, and I dabbled with Korean skincare and makeup when I was younger. I’ve grown up around Korean women my whole life, and I can attest to the fact that they do have beautiful skin, and they’re very serious about their skincare!

Recently my skin had become so dull and lackluster, and the low-ingredient, natural products that I’d been using just weren’t working. Since the advent of BB Cream a couple of years ago, Korea has rocketed to the forefront of skincare technology, so I decided to give Korean skincare products another try because I couldn’t ignore the buzz around them any longer. When I was at the Korean airport this summer, I picked up three products from the luxury Sulwhasoo line: toner, essence, and lotion. I’ve been using them for about 2 months now, and I can honestly say that this is the best my skin has looked in years! I haven’t had a single breakout, my skin tone is more even, and it’s glowing… even my husband noticed!

The average Korean woman uses at least 10 skincare products. The philosophy behind Korean skincare is to layer products and seal them in. Ensuring that the skin is properly moisturized is key, and products are applied in order of their density — from thinnest to thickest.

The average Korean woman’s skincare repertoire can include:

Fall Jackets and Coats for Every Budget

via Harper’s Bazaar

The weather here in Chicago has been so temperamental! It’s been warm this week, but it was in the 50′s the week before. It was definitely an abrupt end to the warm summer weather, and it can be difficult to style an outfit since the mornings tend to be chilly with warmer afternoons. I recommend layering up with coats and jackets, so you can take them off once the day becomes hotter.

There have been a lot of trends on the runway that you can easily incorporate into your wardrobe, especially through a coat or a jacket. We’ve seen the return of the biker jacket and mixed fabrics that often include leather. We’ve also seen a lot of equestrian details, such as puffed or quilted jackets. And surprisingly, we’ve also seen a lot of experiments in silhouettes (for example, extremely long trenches and capes), but we haven’t seen that many bright colors. It looks like army greens, grays, and whites are really hot right now. Luckily, there also seems to be a fall trend that fits everybody’s individual style.

The problem? Many of the most on-trend pieces I’ve seen are expensive! But not to worry, Lovelies. I’ve gathered some of my favorites that are affordable for every budget.

1. Parka, Zara | 2. Soft Bonded Trench, Topshop 3. Leather Jacket with Pointed Hem, Zara | 4. Double Sided Cape, Zara

How To Take The Perfect Bubble Bath

Nothing sounds better than a relaxing bubble-bath after a long day at work. It seems as though we are all just too busy to relax every day, but once in a while, it’s okay to let ourselves take a little break. One of my favorite ways to relax is by taking a long, hot bubble-bath. It’s unlikely that most of us can have more than one personal mini spa day a week, so let’s make it count! Here are a few suggestions on how to make your bubble paradise as lovely as possible.

Make yourself a soothing playlist

When choosing your songs, think peaceful and positive. If you are madly in love, slow romance may be great for day dreaming, but if you just got out of a break-up, maybe go for some Beyonce? In general I recommend keeping this musical ambience as calming as possible. Here are some of my choices:

  1. Come Away With Me – Norah Jones
  2. Both Sides Now – Joni Mitchell
  3. Thinking Out Loud – Ed Sheeran
  4. The Way You Look Tonight – Rod Stewart
  5. You Make Me Feel So Young - Michael Bublé
  6. Sunrise – Norah Jones
  7. Hero – Enrique Iglesias
  8. Underneath Your Clothes – Shakira
  9. Vanilla Twilight – Owl City
  10. Two Is Better Than One – Boys Like Girls
