Working in retail, I learned a lot of things first-hand (and often, the hard way). Here are some great wardrobe rules to follow if you’re working in the retail world…
1. Always bring a pair of flats
Depending on the retail environment, it may seem like all of the other women there are painlessly walking around in pumps. While it can certainly make an outfit look more put-together and polished, this will wreak havoc on your feet. If you’d like to wear a heeled shoe to work, always make sure to bring a back-up pair of flats. There’s nothing worse than being stuck on the sales floor when your feet are achy and swollen—not only will it cause a ton of health problems, but it will definitely slow down your productivity, too.
2. Keep a Tide pen or Shout wipe handy.
It never fails—if I’m wearing a light-colored top or dress, I’m going to get something on it. Thankfully, I’ve had too many stains in the past that I’ve learned my lesson on carrying Shout wipes and Tide pens. Even if you’re a pro at wearing white, you or a clumsy co-worker will be glad you stashed these in your purse.
