Halloween Candy You Should Try To Avoid

via Food Gatherers

For kids, Halloween means candy, more candy, and even more candy. I remember (back in the day) when my sisters and I would go door to door in our costumes asking for candy. By the end of the festivities, we would dump our sweet goodies out on the floor to see what we had collected. As someone who loves sweets and chocolate, I was always excited to get Flavored Tootsie Rolls and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups! Although I haven’t gone trick or treating in years, I still indulge in some Halloween candy. In no particular order, here is a list of some of the worst Halloween candies. So if you plan on binge eating this Halloween, I’d try to steer clear from these treats!

1. Candy Corn

Some love it and some hate. I love it! Dentists, not so much. These things are loaded with sugar and artificial coloring and flavors. It’s also really bad for your teeth.

2. Snickers

These suckers are bad for your teeth, especially since the caramel can get stuck between your teeth causing cavities. These bars also contain 27 grams of sugar.

3. Fun Dip

A white stick of sugar that you dip into more sugar—it’s no surprise that Fun Dip is one of the the worst Halloween candies.

5 Delicious, Easy Slow Cooker Recipes

My household recently gained a slow cooker, and I honestly don’t know how I lived before I had that thing. Making dinner has gone from a daunting chore (don’t get me wrong, I love cooking but it’s hard to find the time and I hate the clean up) to an absolute breeze with this thing. It definitely makes you feel accomplished when you’ve finished preparing dinner before lunch! You can pretty much throw whatever you want in a slow cooker and four to eight hours later something delicious comes out, but here are some of my favorite recipes to use!

1. Quinoa Chicken and Kale Soup

via CookingClassy

This recipe is a hit at my house. My husband has said it’s his favorite thing I’ve ever cooked and just thinking about it is making my mouth water! It really doesn’t taste as healthy as it sounds, but its a great way to get in a hearty serving of greens. For the recipe, click here.

2. Green Chili

As a native Texan, it’s in my blood to think chili is delicious, but this green chili is especially tasty. Here‘s the recipe.

Annie Reviews: Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation

I used to think that foundation was only for people with seriously problematic skin. As someone with the occasional zit, I would simply dab some concealer on my blemishes and be on my way, not realizing how splotchy and unblended I looked. Over time I finally made my peace with foundation, realizing it was a quick and easy way to achieve a smooth and more well-rested complexion. I first dabbled in mineral powder foundations thinking they would look more natural (which is not always the case) and finally took the plunge into liquid. Since the switch to liquid, I haven’t looked back. All this is to say that I’ve tried plenty of foundations and when it came time to purchase my fall/winter foundation, I knew I wanted to try something new.

There were a few criteria that my new foundation needed to meet: I wanted it to be lightweight, have build-able coverage, be luminous all while looking incredibly natural and containing no artificial fragrance or other harmful toxins. Picky, I know.

After doing tons of research, I finally settled on Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation. If you are unfamiliar with the brand like I was, Koh Gen Do is a Tokyo-based cosmetics company that specializes in skincare and foundation for the most sensitive of skin. This means their products contain no harsh chemicals or fragrances.

Should You Really Wear Sunscreen Every Day?

If you follow a lot of beauty bloggers online, chances are they will always tell you to incorporate sunscreen (especially one with a high SPF) into your morning routine, but I’ve always been a little skeptical. Since I am Chinese-American, I don’t worry about sunscreen unless I’m planning to spend the day on the beach. Even then, it takes a few hours for me to get a noticeable tan. I also didn’t like the idea of adding another product to my morning routine that could potentially block my pores or feel greasy.

But I couldn’t help wondering if I was wrong. And then, I came across the photo below by Cara Phillips. It’s part of her series “Ultraviolet Beauties” where she takes photos of strangers with a UV light. The light reveals high levels of melatonin (a dark skin pigment) that aren’t visible on the skin yet. In other words, there’s a whole lot of sun damage that you just can’t see normally.Too much sun exposure could lead to wrinkles and brown spots—no thanks!

Fall Trend Alert: Tall Boots

via Glam Radar

Since the temperature has dropped, it seems as if the tall boot is everywhere. Suddenly, girls are strutting down sidewalks in long knee-length boots in order to keep themselves warm. The tall boot is great because its material is functional; it also accentuates the leg in order to make it seem longer. It alludes to height because it reaches to the knee and/or thigh (depending on the boot). The tall boot is undoubtedly a valuable fall shoe trend. So, if you’re looking for something stylish, warm and practical,  you should try this shoe.
