Amy’s Favorite Looks From The 2014 Emmy Awards

The Emmys red carpet saw hundreds of stars who all dazzled and looked their best to support a night devoted to television in anticipation to receive the nights top honor. Red and white proved to be the most popular colors of the night. These hues radiated romance and poise for many stars who were there to try and snatch up a highly desired Emmy. Most stars pulled out all of the stops for the last awards gala of the season, making the roundup of this evening’s fashion a difficult one. Here are my favorites of the evening…

Claire Danes – Claire Danes wowed the carpet in a red hot Givenchy gown that was accented with lace overlay. The gown had both a cutout waistline and a thin belt which drew a lot of attention to the mid-section of the dress. The dress was also embellished with a large statement collar piece that helped balance the dress and make sure the belt, cutouts, and lace were not too much. While all of these details sound overwhelming, once photographed the dress looks stunning. With no accessories, a simple red lip and a loose up-do, Claire looks effortless but still incredibly chic with the intricateness of the gown.

Our Top Beauty Buys Of The Year (So Far)

Allison: When it comes to my hair, there’s definitely a fine line between being well-conditioned and greasy. I’m a huge fan of dry shampoos, and when I received a sample of Serge Normant’s Dry Conditioner in one of my Birchbox subscriptions, I completely fell in love. Not only does it smell incredible, but it works to keep my hair soft and manageable, never greasy. But be careful, if you keep some to stash in your purse, your co-workers and friends will definitely expect you to share.

Lovelyish Dish: Annie’s Birth Story

The last picture taken of my belly before I went into labor!

Having a baby, as in actually giving birth to a tiny little human, is by far the craziest and most amazing thing I’ve ever done. It’s been a little over a month since my son was born and I still find myself thinking about his birth every single day… It’s just so special and insane all at once. I think I’m still processing it.

My due date was July 16 and for some reason I truly believed I would go into labor at least a few days early; after all, I had been downing red raspberry leaf tea and evening primrose oil (two homeopathic remedies said to prepare your body for labor) for the last few months of pregnancy like it was my job. So when July 16 came and went, I was became a bit depressed and had this irrational feeling that I was just never going to have my baby, which had me in a bad way.

On Monday, July 21 I had an appointment with my OB and I figured since I’d had zero signs of labor that I was just going to be told for what felt like the millionth time to just keep on waiting. Often times first-time moms won’t go into labor until 42 weeks! At this point I was 40 weeks and five days. Instead, my doctor told me that he really felt most comfortable with me delivering at around 41 weeks and that he really didn’t want me to go past 41 weeks and three days. You see, the last couple months of my pregnancy my baby was measuring what doctors considered to be small and my practitioners were taking a lot of precautions (which meant a ton of doctors visits, non-stress tests and ultrasounds) in the case that I had an Intrauterine Growth Restriction. Fortunately, Silas was still growing a little bit, but it didn’t seem that going past 41 weeks would be doing him (or me) any favors. I was really reluctant to schedule an induction because I wanted my birth to be as natural as possible, but I really trusted my doctor and was beyond ready to meet my son.

Erika’s Picks From Lilly Pulitzer’s After Party Sale

Last Monday morning, I had my alarm to wake up for Lilly Pulitzer’s biggest sale of the year. When I first found out about the sale last year, I was shocked to see how many of my favorite items went for as little as $20. After a very successful online shopping spree, I couldn’t forget to be ready at my laptop again.

With a few clicks on the site, I saw some of my favorite items for amazing prices that I couldn’t resist! Five purchases later, I was delighted to order three new scarves, a belt and a tote bag to use for the new school year. Even a few days later, it felt like Christmas in August when my beautiful bright new Lilly items arrived! Now that I have these amazing new items to incorporate into my wardrobe, I’m excited to share some of my top picks from the After Party Sale…

1. Pink Boho Scarf

While stocking up on new fall items, I loved how different the Pink Boho Scarf was from the other two that I picked up. From the contrast between the hot pink and blue seaweed print to the gold accenting on the bottom, this accessory stands out on its own.

Annie’s Newborn Essentials

Depending on how long you’ve been reading Lovelyish, you may or may not know that I was pregnant and very recently had my first baby, a boy named Silas Wilder! My husband and I are totally over the moon with our new son, but when people tell you that having a baby is the hardest thing you’ll ever do, they are not exaggerating.

There’s really no way to explain the challenges of having a new baby (don’t even get me started on labor and delivery) unless you actually experience it. As prepared for all the pain and difficulty that I thought I was, I was completely shocked by the reality. Anyway, all that’s to say is that there are quite a few things we’ve used and loved to make this whole experience a lot more manageable. (Apologies if I’m making motherhood sound dreadful—it’s absolutely the best thing I’ve ever done, but I’m just trying to be realistic!)

1. Boba Wrap and Ergo Baby Carrier

Baby wearing has been our favorite way to not only tote Silas around but it also works wonders for calming him down, meaning when we wear him we can actually get things done around the house! I love the wrap for when we’re just lounging around at home doing chores and the Ergo is perfect for outside the house. The Ergo feels a little sturdier and safer, not to mention I love the sleeping hood and the fact that it has pockets which I can easily store Si’s pacifiers and my cell phone.

A Great Fall Shoe Trend: Loafers

Recently, I’ve become obsessed with the stylish and oh-so-comfortable penny loafer. A great addition to any fall wardrobe, the loafer comes in a variety of shapes and sizes such as the platform, moccasin and traditional flat. And when it comes to loafers, simple can be better and more fashionable.

via Whipped Style

These shoes, which are made by adjoining two leather sides with a single strip across its instep, speak to the sophistication and simplicity of its wearer. And, even though it can be  frumpy in its appearance, I happen to think that this fall shoe trend is oddly hip and refreshing. In any form, it can turn heads and make your foot look oh so good.

Its preppy demeanor adds to the shoe’s appeal, making it one of my favorite and most coveted fall fashion finds. Over the years, loafers have charmed many, which is why my love from them shouldn’t seem unwarranted. From the academics to the fashionistas, they have become a trendy “go-to”,  so much so that various runways have made this slipper a lust-worthy item.

12 Makeup Essentials for the Average Girl to the Beauty Junkie

Makeup can be heaven for some people, but at some point there are just so many products that it can become a blur on what is really needed. If you fall into that category or just simply want the essentials, here are my suggestions for 12 products that are “hitting the pan” worthy and definitely worth the investment…

1. Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentrè: When you have to use a moisturizer, primer and makeup remover your makeup drawer gets a little crazym but using this Embryolisse concentrate you cut all those steps. I first heard about this from my makeup teacher and have only been using this since. Thanks to the person who convinced this French skin scare line to make moves in America!

2. Nars Orgasm Blush: Orgasm is definitely a cult classic for a reason and will forever be part of my makeup collection. This peachy pink blush goes with virtually every skin type and look and although pricey, I can assure you once it hits the pan you’ll be on your way to the nearest Sephora immediately.
