It was recently announced that Banana Republic is going to be releasing a second
Mad Men-themed clothing line. Check out a sneak peek and some of my hopeful suggestions for the collection after the cut!
While season 5 of
Mad Men isn't out until March 25th, fans of the show can get a fresh taste of it on March 1st. That's the day Banana Republic will launch a 40-piece collection based on the series, complete with clothing for men and women.
Mad Men fashion director Janie Bryant helped develop the line, and we can expect, "bright polos, 'dapper dressing separates'...ladylike dresses in brights, neutrals, and florals, as well as cardigans, lace shell blouses, and coral cropped capris." [via

Sounds like a great spring collection! Here are some
Mad Men outfits I hope inspired it:
1. Pen necklaces. I've been coveting Joan's for years, and recently nabbed a Kate Spade pen necklace on sale. It's been a huge asset when I'm out and need to jot down useful addresses/restaurant names/phone numbers. Hopefully Banana Republic introduces the trend to the masses in a more affordable fashion!
2. Shirtwaist dresses. These dresses fit tight across the top and flare out at the bottom. Basically, they're perfect for hiding tummy pooches. These babies are great for when you want to look classy after eating a breakfast burrito or two.
3. Wiggle dresses. I'm a lady with curves, and nothing fits them like a wiggle dress. Modest and sexy at the same time, wiggle dresses are ideal for looking subtle-yet-sultry on a date.
4. Beaded shell blouses. Mad Men is well into the sixties now, but I'd like to see some more dressed-up trends than tie-dyed shirts and daisy chains. While Banana Republic plans on releasing "lace shell blouses," the beaded ones are where it's at. They're a great mix of party girl and high class, and could be worn to a nice dinner and/or a Flaming Lips show.
5. Beaded cardigans. Really, I feel we haven't seen enough fashion embellishments stem from a show that takes place when they were all the rage. Even the simplest beaded cardigan, which were popular in the '50s and '60s, could knock a Lacoste one out with its classiness. Throw one over a casual outfit to dress it up, or a fancy one to make it truly memorable.
What Mad Men fashions would you like to see?

My husband and I bought a LOT of pieces from their first Mad Men collection. I'm super stoked for the new one!
Pen necklaces are a gorgeous disaster waiting to happen.
I love the beaded cardigans and dresses inspired by the ones that Joan wears. I also like the things that Betty Draper wears but they are not too practical for everyday use in this modern world, because of the very full skirts with petticoats.
I love all of this stuff, though I would mix it into my wardrobe with other things in an unexpected way. Also, I like how Christina Hendricks is putting out a cigarette in the pen necklace pic. Smoking in the office...ahhh, them was the days.
Those pieces are all gorgeous, but you know what the pen necklace made me think of? In culinary school, we had to wear kitchen uniforms. On the left shoulder, there was a little pocket specifically for pens and thermometers. That was so convenient, I would love to have that on any and all shirts. So far the only other type of shirt I've seen it on are tactical-type shirts.
Maybe I should take my shirts to a tailor and get them to add those pockets on all of them.
there is not a single article of clothing that joan has worn that i would not love to own.
i think i was born in the wrong clothing era D:
I like the wiggle dress (I'm also curvy) :D and the Pen necklace is a good idea *thinks about getting one*
