Lovely Morning: What Celebrities Have You Spotted?
Here in New York, it's pretty common to run into celebrities at events, in the subway, or on the streets.
Jake Gyllenhaal and Taylor Swift shopping in Park Slope, a few blocks from my house.
I used to live in the West Village and moved to Brooklyn (Park Slope), both of which are pretty celeb-heavy. Here are the celebrities I've run into:
- Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson - Sat next to them at a play. Rita had a really annoying laugh. I shot her a dirty look before my date told me who she was. I feel bad now, because I'm a fan of her work. I'm guessing they were there because Speilberg's step-daughter was in the play.
- Famke Jansen - She was walking her dog in Tribeca. Her dog took a poop, and then we locked eyes.
- Julia Roberts - Was inadvertently staring at some lady's cool orange scarf at a cafe near Madison Square. She saw me checking out her scarf and flashed me the hugest smile I have ever seen in my life. Realized about two milliseconds later that it was Julia Roberts. She must've assumed I was checking her out. It was your orange scarf Julia, I swear!
- Julianna Margulies - She was brunching in Greenwich Village at Danal's, my former favorite brunch spot (before they moved locations). She had just walked in for Sunday brunch, and we were both waiting for a table and she threw out a friendly smile. This was shortly after she quit ER, and walked away from a small fortune. She got seated before me even though she came later, but I didn't mind because she seemed so nice.
- Maggie Gyllenhaal - She lives down the street from me in Park Slope, Brooklyn. She took her kid trick-or-treating this year while dressed as a flapper (I was trick-or-treating at the same time, one house ahead of her). She has a nice kid.
- Jake Gyllenhaal - He visits his sister regularly.
- Jeremy Sisto - AKA Lupes, one of the last two cops on Law & Order. He was walking around the West Village with his new baby in a Bjorn. Law & Order was still filming, and he was finding time to be a dad. I was amazed.
- Malcolm Gladwell - He walks around the West Village at night a lot — he's kind of hard to miss with his giant 'fro. Talked to him at a party; he is pretty nerdy.
- Nigel Barker - Judge in ANTM. Spotted him in the West Village, after coming off the High Line with some friends.
- Amy Smart - My friend used to do yoga with her, so he introduced us at a party. She had recently done Varsity Blues.
- Bethany Frankel - Sat next to her at an awards dinner. Not a fan of reality TV, but she seemed very cool.
- Christian Siriano - He's the Project Runway guy with funky hair; I used to spot him all the time in the Garment District, where he must've had an office or something.
I think that's it. I never spot celebrities, but usually the person I'm with spots them for me. That still counts, right?

I live in the middle of the prairies in Canada. So... none :) At least none that I can remember.
I met Joe Flacco and Dennis Pitta (quarterback and tight end for the Baltimore Ravens, respectively) when they came into the store where I work. I made small talk with Joe about the off-season and he ended up buying a few shirts.
Here's me with Joe and two of my former managers:

He is literally a full foot taller than me and it makes me look like I'm about 12 years old :(
Mini Me wheeled past me on a motor scooter in a Sephora once. It was in Toronto during TIFF.
I also saw Shania Twain power walking up the sidewalk in my hometown, after her divorce. She has a bunch of family there, so she was probably staying with them. That might be it.Wow, that's quite a list. The only "celeb" I would probably run into around here is Matthew Lewis who played Neville in Harry Potter as he is from around my area. I have met him, but when he was doing a signing at a local cinema when the sixth film came out. Other than him, people just tend to spot actors from British soaps around and about here..
I met Jennifer Lopez... not a fan event or anything, just I was working. Few women I've met have been bigger stuck up bitches.
I've also met some rappers here and there, all really nice and down to earth, weirdly enough. Although, they were Latin rappers, who usually don't have the same materialistic thing going on as American rappers do.
Me and my mom saw Hulk Hogan's ex wife at some mall when we were on vacation in California two years ago. She is a BEAST. I don't think I've ever met a woman who was so tall and had such thick legs before in my life O_O
Susan Sarandon came into my small shop and I spent a good half hour helping her. We were a very intimate store, so she and I had an opportunity to talk and discuss the products together. Scarlett Johansson has also been to the shop, but Susan is the only celebrity I've actually had the pleasure of getting to know. I met Tina Fey at my grocery store (Fairway). She took a photo with me and signed my grocery list, haha.
I go to Greenwich Village Bistro all the time, and have spotted many celebs walk past the outdoor seating, where I always sit. Emmy Rossum and Tom Hanks are two who come to mind first, who I've spotted in that area.
Surprisingly, I have not met many celebrities (and I live in LA). However, I did see Stan Lee and Butch Patrick (Eddie Munster) at a recent comic book convention among a few other actors. I spotted Wanda Sykes at an adult convention once, I guess she filming a clip for her show. I once shook Edward James Olmos' hand. My social science teacher in 10th, is a friend of his, and he was producing a local theatre show that we took a class field trip to. And like you (OP), I don't normally spot them until someone points them out to me! I guess I am totally oblivious, too. I have a friend who once spotted Manny Pacquiao at the airport when she went to visit in her native Philippines. I know another friend who've spotted a lot of celebs, I guess she hangs out in the right place to see 'em. I have a few friends who've done print/catalog modeling...does that count?
Elijah Wood, at a Gogol Bordello show in Austin. My boyfriend at the time was playing at the same venue.
Everybody knew who he was, but mostly he was left alone to chill. That's Austin. Everybody deserves to have a good time at a show.
I grew up in Jersey where a weekly Springsteen siting was vital. Bon Jovi was also a big presence at the local Pop Warner field that I coached out! Nothing is a bigger volunteer motivated than seeing him everyday!
I work at the top hotel in my city, which is where the celebrities/athletes stay when they're in town.
"Catering" to these people has made me lose faith in humanity. Some are nice, but for the most part, they're very rude. Michael Keaton was staying with us for a month while he was in town filming, and the staff couldn't be happier to see him leave - he was a nightmare.
I always miss the sightings....Shia Labeouf was at my school shooting in the building i had class in but i missed it, Hayden panettiere was at my high school and i missed that, Zac Effron and Vanessa hudgens and Michael Buble was at my work and i missed that. So all i can say is i've been in the same building at the same time as these ppl, which of course is not nearly as interesting/
I met Clif Cooper, on my way to Kansas to see family. We pulled over at the same rest stop. He's one of the Wrangler NFR Rodeo participants. And he's cute, which doesn't hurt much. :) http://www.prorodeo.com/Profile.aspx?xu=732
Celebrities don't come to Kentucky, lol. I did meet Miranda Lambert on an airplane once. Me and my brother took a picture with her, just because. I've also met John Schneider and Michael Rosenbaum but I had to go to a signing for that.
I am friends with the cousin of the girl who played Johanna in Sweeney Todd. I don't remember her name. She's from the city where I live now in Northern Ireland.
Entire Philadelphia Eagles team since I live right by their training camp.
Entire Philadephia Phillies team since I went to photo day where fans get to go on the field and the player walk around and take pictures with you.
Kailyn and Jordan from Teen Mom 2. Kailyn goes to my old college and I took a picture with Jordan when he was working the Sports Authority tent at Eagles training camp. I wasn't even sure it was him til after the picture so I wasn't being a crazy fan girl lol. He wanted pictures with girls because all the guys were stopping to take pictures with the cheerleaders in the next tent.
Ryan Cabrera was at a bar in my town after he played a show at a different bar so I have a picture with him.
Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, and Michael Bay when Transformers 2 was filming in my town(its the opening scene in the movie). It was pouring down rain and they still came out and signed autographs for fans.
Jwoww, Deana, and Vinny from Jersey Shore when I was in Seaside this summer. MTV cameras made my sister get out of the way lol.
Kate Gosselin at a booksigning at Barnes and Nobel.
i met colin quinn (former SNL cast member) as an intern at a tv station. i've also met the governor of Illinois (Pat Quinn).... and Frankie Avalon
A bunch of UK celebrities, but no-one that's really made it big in America.
I live in CA but haven't seen one single celebrity lol.
Gilles Marini and Cheryl Burke at this milkshake place in LA. My best friend and I are huge fans of Dancing with the Stars and Sex and the City, and we met them a few weeks into their run on the show. It's funny, we were behind them in line and not really paying attention, but I looked up and thought, damn this man has the nicest ass I have ever seen. Without thinking, I said it out loud to my friend and was sure he couldn't hear. Sure enough, he did hear me, and he turned to thank me on the compliment. Absolutely gorgeous, sweet, and nice. My friend and I were so starstruck by it and I was especially flabbergasted by them, that I couldn't say anything until they left.
Last Saturday, my parents and I were at the mall and shopping at Louis Vuitton. We take a seat the their bar/cashier area and these girls are there chattering and giggling and readying their cameras. They're whispering, but my mom and I manage to hear one of them say "the Rock." My mom and her big mouth says, "OMG THE ROCK IS HERE?!" and a minute or two later, he emerges from the back room. I honestly would've never realized it was him unless those girls were there, he was really low-key and blended in really well. He's really nice and low-key and has HUGE hands.
TL;DR: Gilles Marini, Cheryl Burke, The Rock.
@christinalennon - those two are amazing, I'm incredibly jealous *________*
WOW! You've run into a lot of celebs, I'm jealous!
I met Kirsten Dunst at the Getty Museum in LA. I spent about 20 minutes "admiring' the paintings in one of the rooms, all the while silently grappling with my best friend on what I should say to her. I ended up walking next to her while she was looking at a painting and asked, "Miss Dunst?" She looked at me and gave me the nicest smile, but I still felt like a moron for bothering her while she was just trying to have some free time to herself. I whispered that I was a fan and that I wouldn't start yelling that she was there. I've always admired her, and I told her that. She still had that nice smile on her face and told me thank you. I left and felt like such a doofus hahaha.
I saw Clint Eastwood in Monterey California during the annual "Monterey Jazz Festival." His son's a musician so I guess that's why he was there. I was at a cafe when I looked over and saw that he was at the table right next to me. He was sitting with some other guys and they were all talking over a bunch of papers they had. He caught me looking at him and I gave this stupid grin, then immediately looked away. I didn't dare look back lol, the guy is intimidating!
I was right next to Anderson Cooper in a line at Starbucks at JFK airport on my way to Munich three years ago. He had on a brown ball cap, a t shirt, and sweats. He looked like "one of us" haha.
I also met Carlos Santana at the Red Rock hotel/casino in Las Vegas. He was eating Ben & Jerry's ice cream and gave the "hang loose" sign with his hand when I took his picture.
malcom gladwell as in "the tipping point"? reminds me of my expository writing class freshman year *shudders*
@WaitingToShrug@xanga - I love Elijah Wood...AND Gogol Bordello! That's pretty cool.
I met Edward James Olmos and a few members of the cast from the film "Filly Brown" (now an official Sundance film) last year at a convention in Vegas. I suppose I'm not easily star struck.
Saw the Kardashians as we were leaving the Tao Restaurant. Initially, I saw the mom, Kris... then followed Korutney and Khloe. Kim was outside of the venue being stalked by fans and the media.
Walked past Phil Ivey (poker player) in the Bellagio... stopped him and asked him for a picture. He's a real dick. Seems so arrogant.
