Hola Lovelies! Last night's episode of Glee was titled 'The Spanish Teacher,' well because it reminded us that Mr. Schu does more than direct his glee club kids — he teaches Spanish too. But as the episode pointed out, maybe he isn't as qualified to be doing that as we think. Turning to 'La Cucaracha' is just a tad bit too cliche, don't you think? With a guest appearance from Ricky Martin, and Sue wanting to have a little Sue this episode brought the funny, so let's get to it!
The episode starts off with the fact that a new tenured position is going to be available for the teachers. Naturally this causes Mr. Schu and Sue to rekindle their competitiveness, and for both of their teaching skills to be questioned. Sue did want to shoot Britney out of a cannon once, and well Mr. Schu just doesn't know that much Spanish so that kind of makes sense. As a response, Mr. Schuester decides to take some night classes to try and better understand the language. Cue David Martinez, known to us outside of McKinley as Ricky Martin. Of course because it's Glee, David had always had dreams of being a singer, so naturally Mr. Shu invites him to perform.
This is when we learn a few things. One, the club will be performing songs written or performed by Latin artists and two that Ricky Martin is sexy and he knows it. While singing 'Sexy And I Know It' we also learn that as cute as Finn is, him being sexy and dancing -- yeah, not so much. Two people missing from the performance were Sam and Mercedes because they are sitting down with Emma and surprise! Her awesome pamphlets are back. She suggests the two go a whole week without any form of communication, and in true Glee form end up singing some songs to each other anyway. Sam sang a mash-up of 'Bamboleo' and 'Hero' while Mercedes solidified that she should just sing for the entire episode with her rendition of 'Don't Wanna Lose You.' But, she did end up walking away with Shane after their real silence was broken, so did she finally choose? That lingering stare at Sam when she walked away says maybe not.
Also going on in the halls of McKinley is Sue getting a new rival in Roz, the former Olympian turned swimming coach. Seriously, I watched it twice and it was just as funny both times. Oh, and most of her jokes come from the fact that Sue wants to be a mommy. That's right, everyone's favorite cheerleading coach wants to make some babies, and get this, use Mr. Schuester's sperm. This causes Emma to confront Sue for asking her fiance for his best swimmers via one of those awesome pamphlets. We do however get to see Sue's softer side when asked why she wants Will's sperm. Her response: if goodness and optimism are somehow genetic, she wants her kids to have that. Aw.
Speaking of Emma's pamphlets, after Rachel tells Mercedes and Kurt that she's engaged to Finn, Kurt drops some pamphlets and opinions of his own off for Finn. He finally asks the question we've all be wondering. Does he really love Rachel or is he doing it just because he wants some sort of plan for his future? This causes Finn to realize that maybe he has given up on his future thanks to Kurt reminding him that he's unique. Gotta love brotherly love.
Now back to the whole tenure thing. Sue thinks it was Santana who complained, but it ends up being Becky. We find this out because the note was written in crayon, and Becky is a better speller than Britney. In terms of Mr. Schu's case, it was actually Santana who complained. After doing a duet with Mr. Martinez to 'La Isla Bonita' because well, he's hot and she's hot — yep, reasons enough for me. She waited and let Mr. Schu try and prove his Spanish abilities with 'A Little Less Conversation,' which he doesn't. It does cause Santana to call Mr. Schu out on just portraying all the Latin stereotypes, but does remind him that he is an amazing glee club teacher. So, Mr. Schu ends up reccommending Mr. Martinez to take his place as the Spanish teacher and decides to try out the opening in History. Let's just hope it doesn't repeat itself and he's actually good at it. In the end, Emma ends up getting tenured and Will creates some pamphlets of his own to congratulate his future wifey. Seriously, so cute.
What did you guys think of The Spanish Teacher? How did Ricky Martin do? What were some of your favorite parts?
I haven't seen any of the new episodes since the new year. Not because I don't want to but because I'm lazy. I'll eventually catch up. I was going to watch the new episode last night but I didn't have time to watch the two previous episodes because I wound up watching the new Ringer instead!
