Three Even Better Ways to Easily Remove Glitter Nail Polish

Last month, skanedalous posted some great Refinery29 tips on how to remove glittery nail polish:- Saturate a cotton ball with nail polish remover.
- Place the cotton ball on the top of your nail, wrap each finger in aluminum foil and press down on your nail.
- Leave on your nails for five minutes.
- Pull foil off and your glitter polish should come off with it!
Our readers posted a bunch more great suggestions in the comments! Here were the best tips and tricks:
1. Sandwich the glitter polish
All I do is use a color polish first, then the glitter (a coat or two) then a coat of Seche Vite. In about 4 days when I'm ready to change my polish anyways it actually just comes off in one clump w/o any polish remover or anything.

I wore glitter nail polish allllll the time back in high school. I would paint a base coat of either clear or a colored polish on my nails first. I'd paint the glitter on top of that and then a clear coat on top of the glitter. It wasn't too difficult getting it to come off. Whenever I didn't have a base coat it was a pain to get the glitter to come off.

2. Paint a new coatThe best and EASIEST method for me to use is get a nail polish that you don't really care for. Paint on over your glitter nails and leave for 2 to 3 minutes. The new polish will start to freshly bond to the glitter polish and make it loose. After the 2 to 3 minutes, just get a cotton ball with polish remover and remove as normal. THIS METHOD IS SO MUCH BETTER!!!

3. Try another fabric
Another REALLY good but weird way to take nail polish off is to use TIGHTS! just old tights. it absorbs less of the nail polish remover so more goes on ur nails and its texture it great for scrubbing the nail poilish off without being too abrasive

Easier way: Go to your local craft store and purchase some felt (only white--no colors), put some polish remover on it scrub a bit. Voila! It's better than cotton because it doesn't leave the fibers behind, and it's also more rough so it takes polish off easier.

Do you wear glitter polish? How do you get it off?

I do, it's my favorite aside from black. What I do is soak my nails in polish remover on a bit of toilet paper for about a minute. Then it's usually not so hard to scrub off the glitter.
Loving these tips! I have the hardest time getting dark colors off my toenails. Thanks for sharing Lovelies!
I always use a base coat so 99% of the time I can just peel or chip off my glitter polish without any nail polish remover.
Ooh thanks for the tips!
Good tips. I usually just chip it off with the fingernails from my other hand over the course of a few days, but that process takes a long time and looks really cruddy while it's in progress. Plus it's not very good for your nails.
I still love the tin foil method. I love using felt, too, but even if you buy the pre-saturated felt wipes for your nails, you'll find that the promise of "one wipe removes polish on all ten fingers" most of the wipes like to make isn't true for glitter. For me, I still stand by spending ten minutes with "robot fingers" looking silly while the nail polish remover sinks in and does its work. As damaging as nail polish remover can be on your skin, I prefer this method to scrubbing repeatedly at each nail with felt or cotton or whatever. My nails look so much less ragged when I stick with foil.
I have that bad habit of picking the polish off. A base coat, couple layers of glitter polish, and decent top coat peel off surprisingly well, lol.
@eugenia@xanga - Rub vaseline around the edges of your nails on your skin before removal. It works wonders!
@chicbananas@xanga - Never heard of that before. I'll def give it a try! Thanks!
Thanks for the credit. :) <3
@KristInRainbows@xanga - HAHA. I've done the same before as well. XD
I used to use glittle paint for my nails, but it was always a hassle to take them off! Even though these are helpful tips...I'm still too lazy to paint them again
