Scaptia Plinthina beyonceae. That's the name of a new species of fly, named recently by a group of scientists. Anything look familiar there? How about

The fly, which was actually discovered in 1981 (the year of Beyo's birth), sports a bright, glowing, golden rear-end, which, according to these esteemed scientists, resembles the singer's own derriere. In fact, one researcher even ventured to call the fly "
bootylicious." You can't make this stuff up. Sadly, the insect in question only resides in Australia, as far as scientists can tell.

lol. I remember in the 90s their were a bunch of drosophila (fruit fly) genes named after video games. My favorite was sonic hedgehog. Naming a species after a celebrity isn't shocking or new. The only way I would switch back from the dark side to the hard sciences is if I could name a species. Other than that, I'll stay on the dark side of academia.

I don't like it. I don't understand. Who likes Beyonce? I mean I like some of her songs, but who is this obsessed with her? I've never lived anywhere or known anyone who cares that much about her. Who actually likes her....? This is a serious question. Cuz I never even hear about her and then I hear about this kind of thing and I'm like ????????
