How To Easily Remove Glitter Nail Polish

Glitter nail polish is quite possibly one of my favorite things, ever. Judging by its continuing growth in popularity, I'm not the only one with this obsession. However, removing those gorgeous chunks of shimmering awesomeness is an absolute PAIN and it takes FOREVER. Fortunately, there is hope!
Deborah Lippmann gave Refinery 29 the low-down on removing those glittery grains.- Saturate a cotton ball with nail polish remover.
- Place the cotton ball on the top of your nail, wrap each finger in aluminum foil and press down on your nail.
- Leave on your nails for five minutes.
- Pull foil off and your glitter polish should come off with it!
I followed these instructions when removing my current manicure (above photo), which was simply two coats of Milani Gems. This method is SO much easier than attacking your nails the old fashioned way.
Have you used this technique before? What's your favorite glitter polish?

I will definitely be trying this. Glitter nail polish is such a bitch.
I was just thinking about this!!!!! I'll definitely keep this in mind the next time! :D
All I do is use a color polish first, then the glitter (a coat or two) then a coat of Seche Vite. In about 4 days when I'm ready to change my polish anyways it actually just comes off in one clump w/o any polish remover or anything.
I don't like this method. The best and EASIEST method for me to use is get a nail polish that you don't really care for. Paint on over your glitter nails and leave for 2 to 3 minutes. The new polish will start to freshly bond to the glitter polish and make it loose. After the 2 to 3 minutes, just get a cotton ball with polish remover and remove as normal. THIS METHOD IS SO MUCH BETTER!!!
@luvinsk84life@xanga - That's an awesome idea. I just applied glitter polish yesterday so I'll be trying your method to take it off soon. Thanks!
@luvinsk84life@xanga - This would probably work with clear top coat, too, right? Sounds cool! Thanks for the tip.
I wore glitter nail polish allllll the time back in high school. I would paint a base coat of either clear or a colored polish on my nails first. I'd paint the glitter on top of that and then a clear coat on top of the glitter. It wasn't too difficult getting it to come off. Whenever I didn't have a base coat it was a pain to get the glitter to come off.
the only issue i have with this method is that it makes my cuticles and the skin around the nail SUUPPER dry. and even hand cream doesn't exactly help much.
another REALLY good but weird way to take nail polish off is to use TIGHTS! just old tights. it absorbs less of the nail polish remover so more goes on ur nails and its texture it great for scrubbing the nail poilish off without being too abrasive
@hokey_chik@xanga - ooo...that is INTERESTING! i'll definitely be trying this!
@beca - You're welcome. I haven't tried using a top coat, but it makes sense to use.
@Fell_from_hell@xanga - I do this tin foil method alllll the time. I just always always apply cuticle oil right after I remove the polish and use hand cream throughout the day. It's not always easy keeping cuticles looking nice, but I think with the right cuticle oil/cream you can keep them from looking all dry and gnarly. I've heard LUSH's Lemon Flutter is wonderful for cuticles.
Thank you!!! I will try this :)
i always soak my nails in pure acetone and it basically comes off.
I was just wondering about this last night as I attempted to scrape cotton lint off my nails :/ thanks for the tip!
Easier way: Go to your local craft store and purchase some felt (only white--no colors), put some polish remover on it scrub a bit. Voila!
It's better than cotton because it doesn't leave the fibers behind, and it's also more rough so it takes polish off easier.
yay for the advice!! I had my BF* scrape off my glittery nail polish and boy was it painful !
hmm... I saw MissChievious post this 2 weeks ago on her youtibe.

will try this soon.
Bookmark! I definitely needed this.
i wish i read this last night! o.0
@heythereJOANN@xanga - AGREED!
I use glitter nail polish mostly from Chinese Glaze and it's nice but I like a top coat so that it doesn't feel bumpy on my nail and the top is smooth and shiney, but I have a problem. The day I paint my nails and put on top coat, the whole thing just comes off later in one swoop. I use the topcoat Out The Door and it's supposed to be really good, but I don't know what else is causing it? What makes my nail polish come off quickly and in one peice? I need this fixed!!!
Oh My goodness!! this is a life saver!!! I love sparklys on my nails to but its the worst taking it off. Thank you soo much!!
