  • Military Style: Preparing For Fashion Combat

Trends come and go. I occasionally still see women wearing gaucho pants that make me cringe, but whatever, follow your heart. One trend I am in love with and don't see it falling off the map anytime soon is the military-inspired look. There is nothing better than being able to dress grungy (i.e. wear comfortable shoes and a big jacket) but still look sexy. How do you do it?! Well, from combat boots to jackets, I have found some pretty cool militant styled pieces to compliment your wardrobe.

If you want to really rock the combat look, you can find a fairly inexpensive military jacket at almost any vintage shop. Purple hearts, included. You can honestly just use it as everyday outerwear, throwing on a scarf with jeans and boots and calling it a day. The cut of vintage jackets like these are very boxy, and baggy but the army green is a nice, different color to utilize in punching up the pizzaz in your wardrobe.

Now, if you are not too interested in the whole cut of these military jackets, you can go almost anywhere and find a military-style jacket that is even more feminine and flattering. I really enjoy the structure of the military-inspired jackets that I have seen at Forever 21 and H&M, plus, you can't beat the prices!

Jackets and boots -- in my opinion -- make the military style stand apart from the other trends. So, for "Part II" let's talk about combat boots.

When I first think of combat boots, I think of Daria, from MTV. Remember here giant green jacket, huge black boots and her monotonous voice? I'd like to think she started this trend, but that is a whole 'nother story.

Combat boots can be used just in the same way as a military jacket. Combat boots are statement pieces. If you're wearing a a skirt, some tights and a chunky sweater, per se, then why not throw a pair of combat boots on and throw in a pop of color with some socks? Wabam! You know have made your feminine ensemble a little bit more rugged. I also love seeing combat boots paired with a nice black leather jacket. You can really make an outfit more striking (and even a little more comfortable) with a pair of combat boots. I have seen so many styles -- some boots with studs, some with heels -- that have made this military trend so appealing. I myself have took a ride in the tanks of fashion combat and have a simple pair of brown leather booties that take a more simplistic version of the army boot. I got these at DSW for only $40

The military trend is something quite versatile. Even better, it is unisex! I love seeing a man in an army jacket. It makes a man look rugged and even pretty hip. I know our girl Beca has some first-hand experience with that! I also think that this grungy, military style is perfect for cold weather. Big jackets and layers and big boots just make me feel warm which is exactly what I want!

I wonder if the military style can carry on through spring in winter.

How do you think it could stay through the seasons? How do you feel about this combat style? If you're a believer in the military trend, what sort of pieces do you like to wear?
