  • How To Dress This Winter, According To Our Readers

EarPro Fleece Ear Warmers Very warm! (Black)from Amazon
Recently we called out to you cold weather veterans for advice on how to dress as to not perish this upcoming winter. You answered.

Ashley Nicole Anders offered some Albertan-born advice:
I don't wear hats due to hat hair and how sweaty they make me, but just some basic ear muffs work fine, and then any type of soft wool or fleece scarf will do the trick. Those drapey accessory scarves aren't going to be of much help in super cold weather, although if the rest of you is bundled pretty well then wrapping a drapey scarf around a number of times will help.

Hence, the lead muffs above. And how about a sweet, jewel-toned scarf like this one:

Winterpeg citizen heart_leigh recommended Helly Hansen as a solid brand. Since I need some killer thermals, why not:

Helly Hansen Women's Pant, Black, Medium$40.00 from Amazon

A lot of Lovelies agreed Thinsulate is a great brand. I dug the functionality and overall toastiness of the these Thinsulate gloves below:

Women's Thinsulate Lined Fleece Gloves - Large - Black$12.00 from Amazon

However, I think the most valuable information I learned was the vitality of layering. That way, as temperatures float or sink, you can add or subtract from your outfit. I can dig that.

What ways do you fashionably layer?

I don't fashionably layer. I wear my oversized and unattractive Sears-bought winter jacket, and then wear whatever outfit I wanted to for the day with a sweater if I feel like I'll need it, and then my boots if it's really cold (otherwise just normal shoes or normal leather boots). I can't layer unless the layers can easily come off, like sweaters/jackets and scarves, otherwise I get soooo overheated. Like to the point where I'd willingly jump in the snow naked. The change between the cold air outside and the hot heated air inside causes enough issues, I don't need to be showering in my sweat 5 minutes after I get inside! I find that layering too much actually causes my fingers to swell up really easily once I get inside.

I got those same gloves for $5 at Wal-Mart. :D

To fashionably layer, invest in a good peacoat. Buy one a size up from what you normally wear so that you can wear a warm sweater under it and not feel like you're suffocating. I hate being cold and I live in Pennsylvania. I also hate looking like an eskimo trying to stay warm. If I have a more formal event or somewhere where I need to dress up, I brave it. Wear tights with a dress and move fast from the car to the building. I only resort to puffy coats in extreme situations where I'll be outside for a while.

I HATE puffy coats. PEACOATS ONLY.

Why does everyone assume winter coat = puffy coat? Mine has absolutely no puff of any kind. If it were not oversized, it would look like any other jacket that could be worn in the fall. Yet it's designed to help keep you warm on its own between -15 and -30 degrees. Better than other puffy coats I've used.

These are awesome and practical. Though I'd never ditch my warm hat for earmuffs
