As much as I love the absolute freedom college gives me, I do get homesick every now then. I'm originally from Northern California but attend school in Southern California. Plane tickets are expensive and I don't have a car so I usually only get to see my family in person about three or five times during the year. I can't even imagine how it is like for those of you who live in separate time zones than your home, so here are some things I do that comfort me when I do feel nostalgic for home.
1. Make a collage to hang in your room I made a picture collage of my best friends from the home range and hung it above my computer to remind me of all our different memories and moments. Posting photos of your friends and families is a great way to make your room homier and an easy way to make you smile.
2. Bring your favorite "must have item" Whether it be a pillow, blanket, or stuffed animal, having something to hug and cuddle with helps me sleep at night. I brought my favorite pillow and stuffed animal with me to college. The two remind me of my bed growing up.
3. Buy your favorite foods There are certain snacks I always munch on at home with my mom like Trader Joe's chocolate covered almonds, so when I feel wistful for my old stomping ground, I'll inhale a few to feel like I have a little piece of home in my college apartment.
4. Reminisce with scents It may sound strange, but certain scents tend to trigger relations with memories. Things like Bounty dryer sheets and typical scents from Korean food remind me of the way my family's house smells.
5. Call your friends and family It's such a simple task, but everyone becomes busy in college and many times relationships grow distanced. Just hearing a familiar voice can really help comfort you and remind you of home.
What do you do when you get homesick?

Calling close friends and family continues to be a great comfort post-college, too. I try to make at least bi-weekly calls to my best friends in Florida to help keep all of us grounded.
I couldn't listen to country music through the last three years of college because it reminded me so much of my mom and our small, country-fied home town and it made me so homesick. I still live far from home, but I can finally listen to country music which now makes me feel closer to home and my mom. I did all of those things in college to make me feel better and I still call my mom weekly, if not more than once a week and I've been out of college for three years now.
I'm constantly home sick now that I've moved to NYC. I try to do a video chat once or twice a week with my mom and baby niece to stay in touch - it's nice to be able to see them face to face, rather than just talking on the phone!
Good advice! Video chat is a really good idea as well, and things like Skype are completely free :)
She still gorgeous Hedi. This is proof that
some women are naturally pretty without makeup and retouching. I wish
some people would stop kidding theirselves that model beauty doesn't
exist without that.70-320 //
