  • Denmark Taxes All Delicious Foods

Denmark may be regarded for some pretty cool statistics, but high rates in obesity ain't among them. However, in an effort to boost healthy eating habits in the Scandinavian country, officials have announced a tax on foods high in saturated fat.

Each kilogram of saturated fat rings up an extra 16 Kroner (about $3 USD). Ole Linnet Juul, food director at Denmark’s Confederation of Industries, told The Washington Post taxes will increase the pricetag of a burger by about $0.15 while the price of a small package of butter jumps by $0.40. A majority of Danish parliament approved the tax in March as a push to extend average life expectancy. Yes, but what good is a longer life if you're emptying your savings to keep up with the Paula Deen's ongoing artery challenge? Just kidding. That might be dangerous. On a more serious note, just how much more could one anticipate to drop on materials to recreate the below butter sculpture, but in Denmark? Because I need to know. [via The Washington Post]
