When Did You Start Wearing Makeup?
My first foray into makeup is a fairly foggy memory for me. I would mess around with mom's makeup at home sometimes, but I can't remember when I first started wearing makeup out of the house.
At first I experimented mostly with foundations because that I had gotten the lovely gene of rosacea from my dad. I then started experimenting with mascara and powder, but those few things were the gist of my makeup desires (save for a few Lipsmackers lipglosses). I hadn't worn eyeliner to well out of high school (probably into the first couple years of my 20's even), & I don't wear it everyday now either. Today I rarely wear makeup on the weekends unless I'm going out with some friends.
So ladies, how old were you when you started wearing makeup?

I started experimenting with makeups in my sophomore year of highschool. It was such a big breakthrough 'cause I really had never seen the point of it, but now I rarely leave the house without at least my foundation on.
I started to wear makeup when I was in eighth grade.
I started wearing flavored, colorless lip gloss as kid. I didn't officially start wearing real make-up until junior high. I was about 12 or 13. I wore lipstick, eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, and blush. Yeah, I know this sounds like a lot because it is. To be honest, I resembled a clown.
i don't think i ever officially started
I was pretty much one of the first girls in my 7th grade to start wearing eye-liner.. a lot of girls were wearing it by the end of the year.
In fifth grade. I don't wear it now ever. Only on very rare occasions.
I think I did a lot of the "fake" stuff in middle school.... wearing bright blue eye shadows and lip smackers lip gloss. I only recently (within the last two years) got into doing actual make up.
I'm almost 18 and I still don't wear make up. :d
I started wearing 'blush' and 'eyeshadow' when i was in the 7th grade. I looked horrible, but I didn't get everything right until senior year of high school
I started wearing makeup freshmen year of high school. I was more into the gothic industrial look, though, so usually i'd tone it down on eyeshadows and i mostly used liquid liner to draw small designs around my eyes, and I'd use eyeshadow gels to color them in.
I started in the 6th grade when Caboodle's makeup came out. You were not cool unless you had blue glitter eyeshadow and bright blue mascara. I'm glad I lost most of my photos from that year.
I played with makeup a lot in high school but didn't actually start wearing it out until I got to college; now that I can afford foundation and mascara colors that actually suit a redhead.
@MiriamBeth@xanga - 6th grade for me too...and of course I wore that crazy blue mascara too lol. But I also wore a matching color lipstick....can you imagine? I also was really into brown lipstick too....glad I grew out of that crazy color phase I was in lol.
I started wearing makeup for my dance competitions when I was, oh, around 7 or 8? But I didn't really start wearing makeup on a regular basis until about 7th grade. I've always enjoyed playing around with it.
I only dabbled with some lip gloss and mascara in high school. I didn't really start wearing makeup until maybe 3 years ago, at 26. But even now, I do not wear makeup on a daily basis. I don't wear makeup to work (I work in a small accounting office, but I never see clients) or to the market. I usually only wear makeup when going out with my husband or friends, and on special occasions. In middle school and high school, lots of friends experimented with makeup---it was quite a sight to see. We had the cholas, the goth/punk and rockabilly girls. None of us had it right, I guess none of us was going for the "ourselves, but better" look.
@heart_leigh@xanga - I see you have since learned a better way to do your makeup! (And you look very lovely.) I think when we are young, we have this idea that more makeup will make us look older. Of course, the older people got to do all the cool things
I didn't start wearing makeup until I was 16 and I was only allowed to wear eyemakeup.
I wore eyeliner sometimes during high school, and never really did my makeup except for homecoming and the two proms I went to. I started venturing into foundation and pressed powder my freshman year of college, and only started experimenting with eyeshadow and mascara about four months ago.
Honestly I would much rather go without it because it's such a pain in the ass sometimes, but I work in a store that has a lot of fluorescent lighting so I look dead/zombieish if I don't do my makeup :(
I am color-blind so I don't see colors right. I could never figure out how to tell which ones look best on me. I put makeup on and went to school for the first time when I was a senior in high school. Everyone said I looked orange. One guy even asked, "What'd you do to your face?" "Put on makeup," I answered. Then he said, "I like you better without it." So, after that I never wore makeup. I dabbled a bit when I was 20, but didn't wear it for years. Now, thanks to the Mac workers, I wear it more often. So, my best answer is late 30s. lol
I didn't start experimenting with makeup until I was 13 or 14 and didn't really start wearing it much until I got contacts and my first job when I was 16-ish. My makeup phase really only lasted for a year; now I really only wear makeup when I have a date or special occasion/family function to attend (not that I wear much - I usually give up after applying foundation and mascara because I'm bored).
I started wearing makeup towards the middle-end of my freshman year, when my acne problem began. I figured that if I covered up my acne with enough concealer and foundation and powder and bronzer, no one would notice it and the problem would go away... big mistake.
Eighth grade. I pretty much went from being scared of it to fully embracing it overnight. hehehe
I just seriously started wearing makeup. I'm a junior in college. I got work at the cosmetics section at a Macy's before my sophomore year of college even though I didn't know anything. And then I got obsessed and bought a ton. And ended up selling it or throwing it away. Now, I do my research and use drugstore products. I still only wear mascara. For parties, I'll wear mascara, eyeliner and a bit of eye shadow but it's still not a lot. I don't wear foundation :P
My mom wouldn't let me wear make-up until I was 13. It makes sense to me now, but I hated it and thought she was being unfair. My friends got to wear make-up but my mom would try her best to explain to me that I didn't need it.
I was 19. Started with mascara, then went to mascara and eyeliner with carmex. Now I am up to mascara, eyeliner, and bright red lip stain (it completes my '40s look).
@TiredSoVeryTired@xanga - ah. the rare colorblind woman. Must have definitely been tough to try to figure out what make up to wear.
