The OMG I Need More Piercings and Tattoos Phenomenon
So I'm just about to get my first paycheck in several months, due to time off work from an injury. And as a student who has scholarships paying for room and board, my only regular, real-world expense is my cell phone bill.
Basically, this means that I have about $220 of disposable income every month - more this month, because I worked a lot in August. And I'm not going to lie, it's sort of burning a hole in my pocket, and I don't even get it until Thursday or Friday! This Friday, I'm going out to buy my boyfriend's birthday present (John, if you're reading this - haha, you probably thought I'd post what it was here. No such luck!), and since I'm taking the shuttle, I'll have plenty of time left over to peruse the mall. I've already decided to eat beforehand, and spend as little money as possible... but the idea of getting another piercing has been floating around in my mind lately...
I have heard many people say that once you get pierced or tattooed, you just want to keep doing it (with the exception of the single earlobe piercings, which are considered pretty 'vanilla'). And I think it's definitely starting to feel true for me.
I got my industrial done about a year and a half ago. Although I had wanted it for well over a year, it wasn't until after something bad happened in my life that I decided to actually go for it on a whim.Likewise, as I cross another difficult juncture in my life, I find myself wanting another piercing. Although the piercing bug had bit me long before, it seems intensified by my desire to mark myself with a trophy of survival. I don't think it's so much wanting to abuse body art as a catharsis, but more a need to commemorate my survival and remind myself of my own inner strength.
And it doesn't hurt that they look cool!
I'm thinking of getting the double piercing in my ear lobes (I never did that, though so many girls have!), but I've also considered a small stud in the center of the outside cartilage on the ear without the industrial. I'm almost certain I'm getting something done on Friday, but the possibilities are endless! I also want a tattoo soon (more on that experience in a couple of months), but for now, I'll stick with an extra piercing.
So, Lovelies, do you have tattoos or piercings? What are they, and are they unusual? Why did you get them, and what do they mean for you?

I have nine piercings, and I got them because I love piercings! I have three in each earlobe, two in my right cartilage, and I have my belly button pierced too. I really want more though - I'm thinking of getting my left tragus pierced to even out my ear piercings.
get a double lobe! those are cute. I love getting pierced but I hate the look of piercings... so I only have 3 in each lobe.
I have two tattoos...and of course, I want more. But after having a very rough week, I want it NOW. I feel that the pain of the tattoo or piercing relieves my anger. Though, I have NO money right now, so the tat will have to wait.
i have 9 piercings[used to be 11] and i love each and every one of them.i don't have any tattoos, mostly because i'm afraid if i get one,i'll want more, just what happened with piercings.:P
I only have one piercing in each ear lobe. If you have the right ear shape for more piercings then go for it, but if you don't it won't look good.
I got my first tattoo back in May and I can't wait to get more.
I used to have an industrial, but it was too much maintenance involved, so I took it out.
The only thing stopping me from getting more is the fact that I seriously need a job.
@HeLLo_Bianca@xanga - do tongue piercings hurt?
I have three piercings in each lobe and one on my right cartilage, and a tattoo spanning my upper back (two Bohemian Lions on both sides of a Luther Rose).
I'd like more piercings, but not sure where and it depends on what sort of job/career I decide to choose and its level of professionalism. Maybe a tragus or an industrial... or something someplace else other than my ears. lol
I was considering getting more tattoos, but I'm happy enough with what I have :)

7 piercings! I have two in each ear (four holes all together), septum (bull piercing lol), nostril, belly button. That's pretty much all I want. If I'm craving for another, I always have my ears open (only have my lobes done) and I play around with the idea of getting my nipples pierced. But I'm totally unsure about that.
I currently only have two tattoos. Next week I am going to my tattoo artist about starting on my next one (I'm broke, should be saving up for my winter class that I have to take, and have bills to pay, but whatever!). When he did my last one in May, I told him about it and he was really into it. Now that summer is finally over, I'm ready to start it because I have a few more in mind that I also want to get started ASAP. I'm not sure if they're really addicting, but I like the element of surprise that comes with having my tattoos (they're all hidden). I've often had people tell me that I don't look like that type of girl, so it's always fun to tell them I am :)
Consequently, I am about to leave for a consultation with a tattoo artist this evening. Haha. RANDOM. :D
I have 5 piercings [two in each ear, and my bellybutton]. I also have one tattoo [a D.S. al coda behind my right ear]. I don't really want any more piercings, but I definitely want another tattoo. I didn't believe people when they said it was addicting, but it really is! I want to get a tattoo of a sailboat [I sail] that says "Confacimus Navigamus"
In one of my ears I have a horizontal and vertical industrial (they form a cross at the top of my ear which gets a lot of strange looks and 'how the heck is that going in your ear?!?'), and then a single lobe in that ear. In the other ear I have regular lobe, cartilage, conch, and tragus. Piercing is a love for me and I enjoy the adrenaline rush that comes with getting them done. I have a couple more planned when three of mine heal and a tattoo, too.
It's so stupidly true that piercings and tattoos are addictive. Before it happened to me I always wondered how true that rumor really was, and whether or not it was limited to people that enjoyed pain (no judgement!). I got my single (vanilla?) first ear piercings when I was just a baby, so my first piercing after that was a single upper cartilage piercing in sophomore year of high school. It was sort of random, as I was at the mall and had my grandma sign for it. It healed funny with some extra scar tissue so I ended up taking it out only a few months later.
My junior year of high school I illegally went and got my tongue pierce at some less-than-reputable place, and I guess you could say that was the start of the following pattern. It was one of the first things in my entire life that didn't follow my parent's rules (at least one of the only things they knew about), and only a month after that I got the second holes in my ears.
Two days after my 18th birthday in my senior year of high school I got my first tattoo. A hummingbird on my shoulder to represent the way that hummingbirds, though small, are full of fight and energy. About six months after that I got my second tattoo, a cursive "leather and lace" on the top of my right foot. It symbolizes the way that I have always been very much a tomboy and "one of the guys" but still have my girly qualities too. My third tattoo came about 10 months after that, an eating disorder recovery symbol in my inner left ankle.
I have managed to fight off the urges to get any other piercings/tattoos since then, but I will admit that whenever I am especially stressed or going through a difficult time I find myself wanting to spontaneously go get something pierced. I have promised myself not to get any more tattoos for awhile since I am only 20 and already have 3, but I know that sometime in the rest of my college career my cartilage WILL get re-pierced.
This comment ended up being a lot longer than I expected it to, lol
i have 9. and yes they are pretty addictive..i have my ears pierced twice at the bottom, twice at the top of my left ear, tragus and rook in my right ear, belly button, nipple and finally neck. i said i was going to stop after my tragus, then it was another in my top ear. then i wanted yet another one, so went for nipple, then i went for rook, then i remember whilst sitting in the chair having that done, thinking about what to have next, and decided on my neck.
i would like a tattoo, although i think as soon as i get one, i'll want more and more and more which, as you can see, happened with the piercings, lol.Sorry, but I think tattoos and industrial, face, or piercings anywhere else are trashy. I know that's not what most people think, but those are just not for me.
I have navel, double lobes, double cartilage in my left ear, and 1 cartilage in my right ear.
My sister gets a piercing everytime someone breaks her heart (shes up to nine, BTW)
I got my first tattoo a while ago and Ive wanted more ever since. But I want to be a teacher, so I need to be strategic in where they end up, lol...I used to want to teach high school music and my professor told me since it was a music-related and the kids were older it would probably pretty well accepted by the time Im certified and hired. But now that I plan on being a preschool teacher instead, well...
I have both ear lobes pierced twice and my belly button... and I'm definitely feeling the "I want more!" phenomenon. I got my first lobe holes when I was 10, and the got my belly button pierced for my 18th birthday. Once it was fully healed I was itching for something new, so I got my second lobe holes my 19th birthday. Next I either want to get my cartilage or tragus done...
don't have any, but lip piercings on guys are very hot.
"And it doesn't hurt that they look cool!" ...I find this sentence very ironic.
Haha, it does seem to be true if you get one tattoo you end up getting another, and the same goes for piercings. I want to know what that is...?
I have a question about the industrial piercings, because I've been wanting one for the longest. When you finally decide to take the piercing out do your holes heal messed up? Because I know I can't be 30 with an industrial piercing...I personally think that would just look stupid.
I knew a girl. She got one ear pierced and then immediately turned around and got the other one done!
I have one tattoo. I'll eventually get it redone, but I like the way my body looks enough to not cover it up with images distracting from my physiological aesthetic beauty.
P.S. Save your disposable income for something important. A vacation, another living space after college, a new car, emergencies... you name it. I've never had the luxury of extra income after my bills are paid, so I'd try to appreciate it more than to waste it on body piercings.
