To sum up Katy Perry's VMA's looks in one word: Gaga-esque. But while Perry opted for 4 different costumes that combined wacky hats and pink hair,

Katy's arrival outfit was an Asian-inspired minidress and parasol.
For the show itself, Katy donned what appeared to be Barbie clothes and a Tetris cube. Geometric!
She later presented in a long purple gown:

I really hate this "the more extreme, the better" idea. It just screams desperate sellout. Just be yourself, and save the costumes for Halloween.
They all look weird and tacky and as though she's trying to out do Lady Gaga in the "weird" department.

I hate now everyone says he copies Gaga...Does anyone remember that Katy Perry came up in the music scene BEFORE Gaga. I remember Katy dressing like that from the beginning. Plus Katy's outfits are cute and quirky,Gaga's are just weird.

@Mushka@datingish - That is very doubtful. Possible, but let's not be naive. They dress that way because they know their target audience pays more attention to the strange and extreme than anything in the norm. It's merely a distraction that sells.
@MissAshley - Why is it automatically "doubtful"? Yeah, it sells, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Just because Katy Perry decides to wear a series of awkward outfits doesn't automatically mean that she's doing just to sell out. People who do weird shit and wear things like this are more and likely doing it because they like the fact that they don't dress like casual VMA appearance
@Mushka@datingish - I understand what you're saying. I just think because she dresses that way so much that it's starting to get old. She might genuinely *like* to dress up that way but after so many times, it just seems more like an act.

@Mushka@datingish - Out of all the celebs who are wearing wacky things these days, I most like Katy Perry. Her outfits veer on the line between cute and ridiculous, and her bubbly personality definitely fits with what she's wearing. Gaga's gotten boring for me, and rappers like Nicki Minaj and Kreyshawn are only doing it for the attention & look tacky and cheap.
