Straight vs. Curly Hair: What Do You Prefer?
I struggled with my curly hair in high school (and by that I mean I had many early mornings dates with my flat iron). From the second week of freshman year in high school to near the end of my freshman years in college, I straightened my hair daily. By the time I decided to stop, my curly hair was wrecked, dry, and frizzy. I have since come to terms with my girly curls and have even gotten them to the point that I actual (gasp!) like them. Yet, I still find myself occasionally longing for sleek, long, straight tresses.
Before middle school, I loved my curly hair. It made me feel like a princess. Everyone thought that a child with curly hair was about the cutest thing he or she had ever seen. Yet once I hit puberty, I became very self conscious about my looks. I desired the straight hair of my peers.
I can see many advantages of having straight hair. Straight haired girls tend to have shinier and more frizz-free locks than those of their curly-haired sisters. When my hair is straight, I can brush it without fear of frizzing out. My hair gains about four inches straight, meaning that it's much easier to whip my hair back and forth after an hour with my straightener. And yet, this is the first time in years I can honestly say that I like my curly hair. It's thick and can easily be styled with many different curly irons and waving techniques. Whenever I go to get my hair done, the stylist always complements it on its thickness. If there's an 80s themed party, all I have to do is tease it for a few seconds and poof, perfect 80s hair.
Which way do you prefer to wear your hair Lovelies? Is your hair naturally straight, curly, or wavy?

The best thing about curly hair: versatility. Girls with stick straight hair can't get volume and curls to stay for the entire day. I used to hate my curls with a passion, but now I love them! :D
mm, I like my hair straighter. I have wavy hair that dries pretty a little curly, but seems to straighten itself out if I sleep on it. I do wish my hair would just dry straight though. :P
I have naturally straight hair. A piece or two will curl, but it's straight. It isn't baby fine so it is pretty bouncy and volumed on its own. Someone suggested I flat iron my hair I was, "Why the heck would I do that? It's already straight!"
I'm all for people doing whatever the heck they want but I tend to like people's natural hair texture better. I personally don't heat style but I'm not against others doing it. I just think it's sad when people do it simply because they hate the hair they were given or straighten it because they don't know how to take care of it (like my sister).
I used to prefer my hair straight because I thought it looked better on me. I would straighten my hair with a flat iron or use those blow-out products all the time to achieve that straight as a pin look. The thing is, I was continually fighting against my hair because it's naturally wavy. Only recently, I've come to grips with accepting my hair the way it is, and I don't have as many hair issues as I used to. Now thick, very dry hair is another story.
it took me almost 20 years to learn to love my curls, and just as long to find a haircut that allows them to curl nicely without me having to do much of anything to it. I havent straightened it since I got a modified carey mulligan cut, but I just love how it easy it is
I have naturally curly hair, and straighten my hair pretty much every day. I like my curls, if I can get them nice. They are frizzy, and it's curlier in the back then it is in the front, so it doesnt just naturally look good. So I generally prefer straight hair.
I love my curly hair! I almost never straighten it because it looks so good the way it is! When people straighten their hair they have to constantly check it, restraighten it, but when your hair is curly, just throw some gel in it and don't worry.
I make my hair straight so I don't have to be.
I only have the option of straightening my hair or putting it into a pony-tail. It isn't curl, but it's thick and frizzy. I hate it so much. Most mornings though, I go with a pony because I don't have an hour to spend ironing my hair down.
My hair can air dry perfectly straight. It used to suck to curl it but I found that if you curl it with a CHI straightener (look up tutorials on YouTube if you don't know how) it will last all day and even til the next day. It takes some patience, especially since mine is really long, but it's worth it. I also found that the Hot Tool Blue Ice Titanium Coil Iron I get really good curls too. They tend to flatten out but then they just leave pretty waves.
I have naturally curly hair, too. I like that I have the option of either having big curls or straight hair. However, I love that straight hair is more dependable. It will always look good and if it gets messed up by the wind, I can fix it in two seconds.
My curls on the other hand are temperamental. Sometimes they look gorgeous and other days I look like a cave women. It also sucks because it can be ruined so easily and once that happens there's no way to fix it unless you want to break out a curling iron.
It's a love/hate relationship.
I'm naturally straight and love it. =D I curl it every now and then, but my hair is so fine that it never really holds the curls. I think curly hair is gorgeous, but I'm not about to go get a perm.
I have curly hair. It's more of ringlets, except I don't have thick hair...just lots of hair. I would love my hair if it didn't POOF out or get frizzy after a day. I've never found anything that makes my curly actually manageable, so I'll keep killin' it with the straightener.
i think people that don't like their curly hair just have no idea how to manage it.
i love my curls. it has taken years to figure out the "formula" or products it needs, but now that i have my hair is beautiful and i get compliments on it from strangers all the time. you don't often hear people exclaim about how straight someone's hair is ;)
also, why would you take a curling iron to already curly hair? that makes zero sense. i will never understand why people do that.
Mine is naturally straight so I rarely use a straighter. And I don't use a curler because I hate curly hair on me. I tend to prefer long, straight hair on most people but some people have a face structure that goes best with curly hair too.
Straight is the best. If I want curls, I can settle for the curls like Kim Kardashians, but that's as far as I'll go. I also love beach wavy hair.
I always wanted board straight hair in high school. Now I love my wavy hair:D I like curly hair better now any how, it looks more dressed up to me. But straight is fun too
I used to religiously straighten my hair - I'd come home from school and shower immediately, then let my hair dry and straighten it. Of course, this didn't stay straight overnight, so in the morning before school I'd spend another hour re-straightening the parts that got wavy again. Glad I stopped when I did. :/
Now I really appreciate my curly hair, even though it can be stubborn and some days have a mind of its own. I like that my hair can hold curls made by rollers/iron and also I could make looser waves if I wanted to. Also, it saved me a ton of money when I went to my prom - I know tons of girls who went to salons the day of the dance and had their hair singed into perfectly shaped ringlets, and all I did was shower and blow dry my hair with a diffuser. People ask me a lot if I have a perm, which is really funny to me. I got it chemically straightened once and that was just awful so I'm never messing with my hair like that again.
Sometimes it's really fun to have a straight-hair day - I look like an entirely different person just about. (It's also cool that I can have shorter, more manageable hair for everyday and if I go straight it gets 3 - 4 inches longer.)
@mak3believ3@xanga - Your curls are stunning!
Straight hair makes me Asian. So, I like my hair the way it is. I have permed it in the past, but right now it's straight-permed and I love it.
My hair is naturally straight and I love it that way. If I'm not feeling lazy, I'll curl it once in a blue moon.
I dont know how to work a curler so I go straight most of the time
For a long time my hair was paper straight, but in recent years its become oddly wavy. It doesn't stay straight when I straighten it and it doesn't stay curly when I curl it. It's incredibly frustrating. I've always wanted curls though. Guess its a "grass is always greener" thing!
I have hair that is straighter than a straight line drawn by a ruler. :(.
I hate it. I've always hated it my whole life. My hair is thick and heavy as well, so it doesn't matter if you try to style it. It WON'T hold curls for more than 5 minutes (by the time you move on to curl another piece, it falls out). It won't do any styles other than "Here I am, all straight and flat". It's awful.
I long for curly hair, and always have. I had a perm done last year actually lol and for the first two month I LOVED it. I would get out of the shower and just let my hair air-dry into this curly mess on my head, but it looked amazing. After two months, it started falling out and I got a weird half-wavy half-straight thing going on that was awful to deal with lol. It's back to it's regular straightness these days, and I just leave it like that.
It seems that girls with straight hair always want curly, and girls with curly hair always want straight. (But isn't that how it always is? big boobs vs little boobs, blonde vs brown, blue eyes vs brown eyes, good vs bad - whatever lol!)
I have wavy hair and I love to wear it straight but its so much work and it just takes forever because my hair is thick. I usually switch it up all the time just to give my hair a break because flat ironing it just dries it out so much. I like having the option of doing my hair different all the time. Depending on my mood depends on how I wanna wear my hair as dumb as that sounds.
I have the misfortune of having all three types of hair on my head. It never ceases to amuse my hairdresser when I go get a haircut. So every morning, I either braid it all up in a crown braid around my head, or if I let it loose, decide whether I want pin straight locks or wavy locks for the day!
And of course, there are the days when I think "Oh screw it all to high hell" and just do nothing.
