I'm a late '80s baby, and therefore remember well the rise and fall of my beloved Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears. *NSYNC were at the peak of their career, and Britney was running around in in a school girl outfit and pig tails singing "Hit Me Baby One More Time." I was 12-years-old, and totally into it. They were the perfect couple brought together by destiny. They met on
The Mickey Mouse Club, and both rose to fame almost at the same time. It was meant to be.
Fast forward 12 years and we have Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, two kids who came out of nowhere (to me at least). One day, all is good in the world. The next day I'm hearing about some kid who hired a '
swagger coach.' All of a sudden, I can't go anywhere without hearing this young man's name and his association to Usher. I look him up, and swear up and down that he's really a girl in drag. He must be. My memory of Selena is much fuzzier. I believe I heard about her through the tabloids when she had a supposed fight with her supposed best friend.
In a matter of days, it exploded. Both teen stars became fixtures of the media. The Biebermeister was always somehow getting made fun of for his lesbian-friendly hair, and Selena for a cute outfit she wore to some teen award show, or some curious comment about perhaps having
bipolar disorder. And then, the inevitable happened: they became a couple. Thus forming one of the supreme form of coupledom, the ultimate teen celebrity couple.
JT and Britney were that couple from 1999 to 2002. Their expertly crafted relationship ended abruptly along with our hope in love. We couldn't believe that the couple who dressed toe to toe in denim together, who sang, danced, bounced and pranced together, were no more. We were forced to slowly piece ourselves together, waiting patiently for the next one... and it came.
But if we're to trust the rumor-mill, this heartbreaking fate has struck again. Due to an alleged unruly text message to a former flame, Justlena are rumored to be O-V-E-R! But the media has a way of messing with us, and it may be just a fabrication. There just may be more of Sestina to go around, for a few more weeks at least.
Are they the same? Definitely. They were basically created by the media, their agents, publicists, managers and own hunger for extreme fame. They were young singers taking every opportunity to be seen together at award shows, basketball games, vacations, hugging, kissing, and groping. Whether either relationship was fake or not, the general public rooted for them because in rooting for their relationship, they're rooting for the idea of young, everlasting love.
But what do I know, I'm just a romantic.

Of course not. But then again there's a video on Youtube where Selena covers Britney's song during a concert : http://youtu.be/wKj5okMuyzU
I thought they were breaking up already...
... I think I actually like Selena and Justin better. And I don't like Justin.
awwww, they're cute =)
I'd rather see Justin Bieber spend more time with his real true love: his hair.
History does repeat itself....
I could see why people would compare the two couples, but I just don't think Selena and Justin are the new Britney and JT.
i felt like brit and j.t. were more genuine. i get this fake vibe from selena and the biebs. idk, maybe because theyre younger than brit and jt were at the time? idk
yeah I am a late 80's baby an I remember the JT and Britney days. I would say YES! I just hope Selena doesn't shave her head and go crazy in 7 years. lol
selena will never be britney. & bieber will never be timberlake. not even close.
They were together last night at the Teen Choice Awards, so I don't think they are over.
when britney was selena's age, she had accomplished way more than selena will ever in her entire life. so please don't compare selena to britney, it's sad.
