  • How To Dye Your Hair On A Shoestring Budget

As a poor MBA student, life isn't always beautiful. Thanks to the new constraints, I unearthed many great deals and treasures that I failed to notice when I had a comfy job and income. I had been thinking of changing my hair color but I didn't want to spend a bomb at the hair salon, (especially since the same money could be used for a nice trip to BaliHong Kong or other amazing travel destinations). I decided to try one of the DIY hair dyes and I absolutely loved the results.
Here is a product review of the Liese hair dye  I used, photos of the process and outcome.

I hope you liked my first product review. Stay tuned for more.

Would you ever dye your own hair Lovelies?

did you dye it brown-er? i can't really see a big difference. but the foam looks really neat and fun...HAHA

I want to try the foam one we have here in the states but they dont have the color I want. I just use Herbashine! It's less than $7 a box!

I color my own hair all the time. Its really easy and way cheaper than going to a salon.

you are a very cute human.

i have dyed my hair myself once, i used garnier color naturals and the color was nice. what bugged me though, was that i had to apply it with a brush. i would have like to be able to just use it like shampoo the way you did.

@kaos_calle@xanga - "You are a very cute human" loll.  I agree!

Good post.  I like this idea.  Are Liese dyes decent, though?  I mean, do they last for a while/give you a rich hue/et cetera?  I can't tell much of a difference in your hair but it might be the lighting.  It looks kind of fun to do though... ha.

    How much is a kit?

i've been dying my own hair for years now and it is sooo much cheaper than salons (duh), but even better than the box dyes you get from a drug store are professional level dyes you can buy at an Sally's (or other beauty supply store). These dyes dont come with premeasured dye and developer like the box dyes but its a 1:1 ratio so its not hard at all the mix, they go on smoother, damage your hair less, and give better longer lasting results.....oh and they're CHEAPER than box dyes because one tube of dye and one bottle of developer can give on average 2-3 separate dye jobs.

Been dying my hair auburn for years now. I use Natural Instincts from Clairol. It's the semi-permanent kind. Washes out in 28 shampoos or so. I love it, it's inexpensive, and my mom uses it too, but a different color. We are always getting coupons, like buy one get one half off. It's a good brand, and it's super easy, I would recommend it.

would love to see pictures where you can see the color differences...the lighting in your pics aren't showing it very well.  i like dyeing my hair on my own as well, i recently did a brown-ish red from my natural dark brown and it turned out nice.  i used a cheap 4 dollar box too, like l'oreal or something lol.

Oh~~ Does the foam make it easier to get even coverage? I've used Palty, and combing it in gets messy and tangly for me...BTW you are so cute!!

i wasn't really able to see too much of a difference in the before / after =/

I've never had a professional color...I always do it myself at home, and actually thought that most people did. Even the thought of paying to get my hair dyed at a salon makes my bank account flinch and cower in a corner (WOO, METAPHORS ) The results are usually pretty nice, and I always get positive reactions from people, so for $6-$10, that's not a bad deal. It's especially easier since I got all my hair cut off (for fifteen bucks...I love Supercuts.)
Hey, that's only about $20 for a cut and color...not too bad.
