  • Facebook vs. Twitter: Which Social Media Site Do You Prefer?

It's the battle of the century! Lately I've been wondering which social media site people are starting to prefer. Both allow us to keep up with the happenings of friends, family and yes, even celebrities, but would you rather "Like" your friend's status or "Retweet" them? Here are my personal pros and cons to both websites:

In this corner we have Facebook!

We all know what Facebook is, and if you don't, well, you're probably not even reading this because you live under a rock or in a cave somewhere. We've all been "Friended" and (gasp!) "Unfriended" by people, uploaded photos of our vacations, graduation parties, etc., and if you're anything like my boyfriend and I, making our relationship "Facebook Official" was a HUGE deal.

All of these things are what make Facebook great--it allows you to personalize a page just for you and your interest while allowing you to browse the pages of others. Facebook is a great way for me to communicate with friends and family that I don't see very often. This past year, however, I've found myself spending less and less time on Facebook. I usually log on to the site only a few times a day, check to see if I have any notifications, what the top news/status updates are and then I log off. I've gotten tired of weeding through people's ramblings and I will seriously punch a wall if I see another status that says some variation of "I LUV MAH GURLZ!!!*****" Yes, I know that I could simply delete them from my friend list or even block their activity, but it still seems like too much work considering I'm starting to spend less time on the site.

And in this corner we have Twitter

So why I have I been spending less time on Facebook? Because I've been spending more time on Twitter! I started an account about two years ago and have slowly become obsessed. I love that I can follow anyone--not just friends but celebrities and businesses too! It's so quick and uncomplicated and honestly, Twitter is where I receive a lot of news information too. S

ure, you can "Like" a celebrity on Facebook but can you actually read hilarious things straight from Ellen Page? I've heard a few people (most from an older generation) that Twitter is just a fad and that it'll be over soon, but I'm not so sure. Some argue that Twitter is "stupid" because it's basically people posting status updates as often as they want, which is of course, possible on Facebook. Although I've had a few instances when people I follow are live-tweeting an event and I want to throw my phone across the room, I don't get as annoyed with Twitter as I do with Facebook. There's a lot less digging and I still have a (somewhat) customizable profile.

So who wins the social media battle? Both Facebook and Twitter have their ups and downs but DING DING DING! We have a winner! Personally, Twitter wins this battle--I'd rather delete my Facebook page than give up tweeting

Which social media site do you prefer? Would you rather update your status or tweet 140 characters?
