Woman Wears 365 Layers of Makeup
Dutch artists Lernert and Sander applied 365 layers of makeup to model Hannelore Knuts' face in one day. So, the natural look!
From their website:
Mission Statement: We wanted to apply 365 layers of makeup in one day to see how much is needed to go from a natural look to an outrageous one.
Production time: It was a relaxed shoot but it took us nearly nine hours non-stop to apply all the layers to Hannelore’s face.
Magic ingredients: Seven bottles of Foundation S103; two bottles of Creamy Eyes E107; three Milky Lips L205 pens; and two bottles of Blush S301. All together 228.40ml of makeup.
Lunch menu: Hannelore was fixed between panels for the whole shoot, so everything she ate or drank came from a straw: juice, and a granola and yogurt mix. I think she had sushi on her train back to Brussels.
Soundtrack: No music on our shoots! Unless we do a music video and the artists need to lip-sync. But we don't like lip-syncing, so that never happens in our videos. Music distracts.
Prep work: We tested a 100-layer session a few days before on our intern, who is a man. We wanted to make sure that this amount of makeup wouldn't kill a person. It didn't kill our intern so we trusted everything would be fine on Hannelore.
Crisis averted: There was always the “we've run out of makeup” stress. But Ellis Faas has her office right around the corner so we could call and get more [Foundation] S103.
Souvenirs: We saved the white construction for Hannelore's face, so if we plan to do a “two years of makeup” we already have the perfect face frame.

Lmao, I'm thinking this was a major waste of time.. (who has NINE hours to waste on something this ridiculous?)
I'm not exactly sure what their point was. Sure did kill some time, though.
I don't get it. It makes no sense at all.
Okay... I guess now we know exactly how much it takes "to go from a natural look to an outrageous one." Sure, why not.
"It didn't kill our intern so we trusted everything would be fine on Hannelore." What??
The only thing I found extraordinary about this video was the fact that the xylophone was in sync with the eyebrow brushing the first time. Hahha. Really odd.
I'm not sure if I quite understand it,
but is it to show how the idea of "natural beauty" with makeup is kind of ridiculous?
The 365 layers must've symbolized the 365 days in a year in which people apply make up to their face....and the point of it is to say if that is truly considered "natural"?
or maybe I'm reading too much into it...please don't attack me if you don't agree, I'm just making guesses as to what it really means because I'm pretty sure nobody would just waste that much makeup for something meaningless, right?
I think for me, even though this wasn't the point I guess.. but for me, I wear makeup every day for the most part (365 days a year), and this was kind of like, wow, that's a lot of makeup. A little bit eye opening, in a way.
What was the purpose of this?
The part I found amusing was how they mentioned they tested on the intern first before doing on the model. I guess the new person is always the guinea pig.
365 days is how much you wemons put on in a years time... lol i think they just wanted to show just how much that truly is.. god im glad i was born a man lol ..walks off snickering...
Interesting.
well, they're artists, so their purpose is art. you need to interpret it yourself, not have them tell you what their purpose is. if this is "pointless" than by your definition all art is pointless. if you disagree with their definition of art, that's another story, haha.
Ewww........it looks like her face is melting.
@bakayarodane@xanga - I think that's what they were getting at... I got the same thing from it!
Luckily it didn't kill the intern.
creepy!!
Meh, this is why I don't wear makeup at all.
Ew... she looked like a melting wax figure. Wonder how she felt with all that gunk on her.
I can't see the point of this, minus grossing someone out.
i love it.
Two words: Conceptual art.
The point was to show women how much crap they put on their face in a year just by applying "natural" looking makeup every day. I hope that some of the women who refuse to leave the house without makeup get more out of this than those of you who apparently need someone to spoon feed purpose to you. You have brains, feel free to use them.
@bakayarodane@xanga - Nice insight...that's a pretty cool way to see it
I don't get the point. I mean i can see if it came out looking good but i mean really what a big waste of time.
@beforedawn@xanga - I'm a woman. I probably wear makeup maybe 50 times a year... maybe less. Usually just for special occasions so that's probably a lot less than 50...
