4 Ways You're Unwittingly Harming Your Boobs
Some seemingly innocent moves can do a number on your set. Keep yours looking and feeling healthy by always avoiding these four.
1. Not covering them in sunscreen. If you're heading outside in a top that exposes your cleavage or upper chest, always slather on some SPF of at least 15, even in winter. Skipping it can lead to wrinkles, pigment changes, and even skin cancer on your boobs.
2. Shaving stray nipple hairs. Running a razor over the sensitive skin on you areola is a quick route to infected follicles. Plucking is more painful, yes, but much safer.
3. Wearing old bras. After one to two years of washing, the typical bra loses elasticity, leading to back and neck pain. If the cups or band on yours sag, junk 'em.
4. Never feeling them for lumps. Breast cancer is rare in young woman, but it does happen. So once a month in the shower, feel each breast, from your nipple to your armpit, and let your gyno know if you detect anything suspicious.
Do you make an effort to take care of "the girls"?

I've honestly never understood this lump phenomenon. Mine are small and natural. Most of the tissue seems hardened, not gooey or fatty. The doc has never said anything about it. It would be a lot harder to feel any noticeable difference if suddenly a teeny tiny lump just grew.

I don't often wear a bra... :) Is that harmful or better? But I don't have much of an ample chest.
i didn't even know they got hairy. o-o huh...
And some of these I think are pretty easy... to know about. like the old bra's and sun block and making sure you don't notice anything out of the norm with your boobies... (I don't know... i learnt this all in health class. xD )
I take great lengths to take care of ze girls, mademoiselle.
@Jacques_Duclo@xanga - Ever the gentleman.
when I rinse the soap off, I conveniently squeeze them, and I see why men love boobies, because they're so squishy that I can't help but touch them
I haven't found anything suspicious.
sunburned my boobs one summer when i didn't put sunscreen on them... will NEVER go through that pain again... oh my god, it was awful. they scabbed and it hurt so incredibly bad.
for the love of all that is holy, slather your tits with sunscreen. dump a whole bottle on them. i learned my lesson...
@starcrossedloversdivine@xanga - the lumps feel different than normal breast tissue or even fibroids. your doctor should have a model that you can feel so you know what to feel for. I am so glad my PE teacher in high school showed us what to feel for. Not all women have "soft" breast, but you'd still be able to tell if something changed about the way your breasts feel.
I am totally guilty of the old bra thing. My bras are so super expensive though. I feel lucky to find a bra for $30.
What about getting fake boobies? I mean mine are so small that I like feel ashamed to show them. I dont like my boobies.
Stray nipple hair O.o?
what about when babies beat you up by pushing on them or hitting it while carrying them and playing with them at the same time? i work with infant/toddlers and they are ruthless!
I touch my boobs all the time. I think that counts as several monthly exams haha.
@CrAdLe2daGrAve@xanga - that they are. my favorite is when they squeeze my stomach right when i have to pee super bad..ouch
@galadrielspitcher@xanga - oh no they just jump on top of my bladder literally..
Thanks for the tips :)
sunscreen... ? I thought that you only need that on parts of your body that are bare. but I guess they could just be half bare, so nevermind.
Health classes should teach girls what kind of lumps to look for. But yes, good advice!
I never shave my nipples
@Jamesmuse@xanga - I've been told that if you don't wear a bra often, your breasts tend to sag a lot faster because there's no support holding them up. I wear a bra all the time, even to bed [evidently you're not really supposed to?] but I do it just for that reason alone. If I can keep these babies perky for a longer amount of time, I'll do it. lol.
@CrAdLe2daGrAve@xanga - hahaha
@how_x_loverly@xanga - you are right, your breast will sag more if you don't wear it in the day, but it has the opposite effect if you wear it to bed..
I found a lump once, but it turned out to just be a cyst. I'm not sure how to tell the difference :/
@ivarahBharavi@xanga - I've actually got sunburned on the top of my boobs before..I blame wearing a semi-low cut shirt and me underestimating the sun. Lol
OP:
And you need to replace your bra if the underwire pops out. O.o
@CoolXwhip@xanga - Don't do it. I'd give anything to have small breasts. It's a pain, literally. Don't lose that.
I need to replace about 3 bras. >_<
