There is a trend that I keep seeing that is more annoying than Uggs, Ed Hardy, and Twilight all in one...it's Converses...
Converse started off as a basketball sneaker back in the day. The old-school Jordans, if they must be called. Now, everyone wears them.
They're seen on "rock" stars such as Miley, Zac Efron, and Ray J. The shoe has transcended the preppy scene to the rock and roll scene to the r&b scene. On my college campus, I see tons of people (both men and women) wearing Converses. They tend to be mainly Asian, but others wear them as well.
Which wouldn't be a bad thing, if they were actually good. They're flat, so they provide no support, making them very uncomfortable. They're also made of canvas, so your feet will get soaked if they're worn when it's raining. Plus, the bottom of the sneaker looks like tire treads. Is it because they're cheap? I'd rather pay more and get a better quality shoe.
Why are Converses so popular when they aren't great to begin with?

AGREED. They're so gross.
Oh...you have me ready to toss a very ugly two word combination at you. Seriously, what's so bad about them? They come in all different styles and colors. Hell, there are even shoe artists out there that make custom Converse for people. And, they aren't cheap. (Maybe you view $45+ as cheap, I however do not.) Maybe you're happy to run around in heels all day but, surprisingly, Converse are extremely comfortable and last for (seemingly) ever.
haterrr. converse sneakers are just so versatile.
they're not really a new trend, they've been around for like 30 years and people have always liked them. i think just because they are a very basic shoe and have a cool look to them. also, teens and students normally can't afford to spend tons of cash on sneakers. they also go well with a lot of different outfits.
i've never owned a pair, but my boyfriend had a pair and he stopped wearing them because he did say they were hurting his feet. *shrug* i usually just buy new shoes at payless.
@XoAsianBabioX@xanga - agreed!!!
I like them o.o
I like them
they are my go-to shoes when I don't feel like wearing flats, uggs, or dcs
considering the fact I can't go out in my running shoes....they're comfy and cute
fyi I've been wearing them since gr 5 or 6
I have flat feet, so converse are actually really comfortable for me. I don't get out of the house much, so they don't get wet often, and that will happen with any other shoe as well. Also depending on what design the shoe has on it, the height, and the store you buy them at they cost 45 to 95 dollars, and if you want converse boots that will run over 100 dollars. I am also sorry if 100 dollars is cheap for you.
I've never worn them, but I've also never been disgusted by them. I see all sorts wearing them, not just "wannabe rockers" and "Asians" as you so nicely put it. I've seen a lot of skaters wear them, and it makes sense because they are flexible and light. I don't know how you can say those innocuous canvas shoes are more annoying than Ugg, Ed Hardy, and Twilight put together.
I wear converses, and ONLY converses because they fit my feet, they are comfortable, and they go with everything, depending on the color you get.
@HereInMyVoid@xanga - "they're not really a new trend, they've been around for like 30 years" so true. its like coffee almost lol its been around for a long time..
diff flavors..some ppl have to drink it everyday, if not. whatever!
Converse are actually really comfortable and they last forever...Seeing as I hate shoe shopping this is a wonderfult thing!
they've been around forever, and they're just fine. stop hating.
I've NEVER owned a pair. But I can see why somebody would and wouldn't like them. I am indifferent about them.
this is the dumbest shit ever.
lol when my parents found out that converses were a trend, they were like
"hey those were the cheap shoes that everyone in china wore when i was a kid because they couldn't afford better shoes!"
lololol
more annoying than twilight? nahhh. more annoying than uggs and ed hardy together? still nahhh.
i don't wear converse because i'm afraid of the lack of arch support (hey, asian here!) and would really rather wear the beat-up tennis sneakers from nike i've had since i was 10, but the shoes aren't terrible looking like uggs, and you could make a lot of the 'health' issues you mentioned and apply it to flats.
Because they are shoes and some people like different kinds of fucking shoes. If they didn't like them they wouldn't wear them.
Study more - pay attention to feet less.
@XoAsianBabioX@xanga - agreed!
my black pair of converses go with anything and it's what I love about them. I hate shoe-shopping (heck, I hate shoes in general), so it's nice not having to get a piar of shoes for every new outfit I get. also, I love how it has a lot of blank space, so I can draw random doodles or lyrics here and there :) you wouldn't be seeing me do that on a pair of Jordan's. they're also extremely durable, mine have lasted me over two years of heavy wear.
ehhh.... if one thing though, they do NOT make comfortable work shoes, especially when you're working 8+ hours. they will hurt your feet after four or five hours >.<
they are a trend, like everything else. there's nothing wrong with following trends. they may not be the most sensible sneakers, but they are definitely cute. they come in so many different colors so you can match your clothes easily with them, and they are laid back but add a nice touch to an outfit.
and by the way, all the things that you mentioned as "annoying" (ex ed hardy, uggs...) are all popular trends. just because something is popular doesn't mean that it isn't nice. it's really annoying how when things are popular, all the "rebels" immediately are programmed to hate it.
just let people wear what they want!
I've never worn them, mainly because they *don't* seem cheap to me (more like overpriced).
Just curious for the people who do wear them --are they actually comfortable though? I've found that I can't even wear flipflops or ballet flats because they don't provide enough support. Basically, I stick to athletic sneakers for everyday wear.
My converse are fine. I love 'em and they're surprisingly comfortable.
I bet you didn't expect these types of responses? dumbass@pawnshop_heart@xanga - i agree!
i have been wearing Cons all my life. I have a pair that are nearly falling apart but they mean a lot to me. Cons are meant to be worn to the breaking point. They're meant to be worn until the soles are practically falling off. And they are tough shoe. Plus, you can wear them with anything. It's not just confined to one trend. Yeesh.
You seriously think a shoe is more annoying than a million screaming-stalker tweens who fawn over Rob Pattinson like he's the Messiah? WOW.
Wow, so hatred at a shoe. I've had various incarnations of Chucks since I was little. I absolutely adore them. Obviously if you don't like them, you don't need to wear them, but you certainly don't need to rip apart the people who like them.
I love converses, they're the most comfortable shoes in my opinion. They are casual, easy to put on, and stylish at the same time.
