I don't understand why it is customary for people dating to get each other flowers. Whether it's for an apology or to welcome your significant other home at the airport, it seems wasteful. For some reason I have a horrible way with plant life. The flowers I have received always end up dried and dead within three days, no matter what I did!
So, I feel rather than a guy wasting his money on something that will only last three days, he should spend his money wisely on something that can be enjoyed for longer. Even chocolates are better, in my opinion, because I can enjoy eating them versus watching some flowers die on my table. It doesn't seem romantic to me. So, I have told guys I'm dating just not to even bother with them, which seems to pleasantly surprise them. Like, "Oh? I didn't know girls were practical. I thought girls just wanted flowers for the sake of getting flowers."
Do you feel the same way? What gift do you like to receive from your significant other?

OMG ME TOO! haha I thought I was the only girl to think that way.
I have never gotten flowers so I can't really make an informed decision.
hahaha well it's nice to receive them, but I like chocolates, teddy bears, and jewelry too! Things that last longer. well..not chocolate, it just tastes good
I'm glad there's women out there who don't like flowers.
I absolutely hate buying them. I prefer for useful or enjoyable gifts. Flowers are good for the occasional flare but they're always just an accompaniment of something better.
I don't like them if they're clearly an obligatory gift (like they had NO idea what else to do). But like everything, it's the thought that counts. If they listen and figure out what kind is my favorite, and that's what I received, I'd be stoked. It's happened before, and I think it's adorable.
yes, i would much rather have chocolate or some other gift :)
Well...it's really nice if you're having a horrible day and your boyfriend shows up with your favorite flower or something. But more useful/enjoyable gifts [aka things that show they know you well] are better.
Personally, I really like flowers. I get annoyed when people say it's a waste of money, but so are a lot of things. Isn't buying a water bottle a waste of money when you can go to the fountain and get it for free? (All water fountains are filtered btw). Everyone forgets the MOTIVE behind giving a GIFT, whether it's flowers, electronics, candy, or whatever it may be. Giving flowers can say i love you, just as much as an iPod.
i think back in the old dark ages in england flowers were given to mask the scent of the women.. cuz ppl back then didn't shower every day, they only showered like...... once a year..
I prefer cash.
he needs to get you roses that are still closed.. whenever the flowers are open they die fast. and i prefer flowers to chocolate because sugar tends to upset my stomach.. all of the flowers my boyfriend has gotten me lived for about a week
I love getting flowers. My husband has only gotten them for me twice though....oh well, he's amazing anyway!
I don't really like getting presents, period. Hahaha flowers are sweet and pretty to look at but I'd much rather just be able to spend time with him than have him send me them. But then again, I'm really not a materialistic person. A little strange I guess.
I don't like flowers. You're not the only one, and by the looks of it, we're definitely not alone. Yes, there are practical women. More than what most people think. I can't stand getting things just for the beauty of them. There has to be a use. I agree; even chocolate is better.
@snapeful@xanga - Rich people got to shower once every few months.
@snapeful@xanga - You just reminded me of that fact! Thank you!
I love it, I think it's sweet and they always put a smile on my face.
my flowers usually last a good four months! o-o
You make a good point about wasting money on something that will wilt in a few days but I rather receive flowers than chocolate since I can't eat chocolate. I actually make use of wilting or dry flower petals. I'm great at flower arranging and keeping all my flowers alive for 2 or more weeks even roses. I'm not a fan of Roses, other flowers are much lovelier.
i love flowers.
my boyfriend never got me flowers.
we've been dating for a year.
still waiting on them.
I love flowers. My favorite flowers were potted orchids I received that bloomed for half a year. Beautiful.
@snapeful@xanga - no wonder I always get flowers :(
I can see where you're coming from but I still like flowers.
I actually hated receiving flowers before dating my boyfriend. I too thought it was a waste of money. However, on my 23rd birthday, he surprised with my favorite flowers and I thought it was such a sweet gesture. Sure, they died wtihin a week but still made me smile whenever I looked at them. That was the only time I got flowers...he usually gets me something I actually use like books and clothes.
I've never received flowers before in my life (and not just from guys). ï¼ˆï¼›Ï‰ï¼›ă€€ï¼‰
