Lady Gaga is...Unique?
When you think about Lady Gaga now, many different descriptions come out.
She's: unique, different, special, talented, weird, can't dance, can't dress, etc etc.
I have to say that I do enjoy her songs, and I guess I am a fan of her and would buy a ticket to see her in concert. But she is really weird. I guess there's nothing wrong with it. Many people argue that that's her style, that shes trying to stand out so that she's "different" from the typical artists in the music industry. She basically doesnt want to be like everyone else, and therefore she developed a new "theme."
I don't know if dressing weird, having awkward dance moves, and illogical music videos is the way to go though. I mean I know shes talented and can sing and actually moves very well, but I don't know...
I guess I'm at a confused state when it comes to her. I don't understand the way she dresses. I don't understand her music videos and performances. I mean whatever shes doing is working and bringing her much success, but I'm not sure if this is how artists should stand out these days.
Things artists do to stand out:
-Have wardrobe malfunctions at award shows broadcasted internationally.
-Kissing members of the same sex just to "make a statement", which I don't even think works.
-Dressing up and performing what basically can be labeled a "a freak show."
-Being very sexually explicit. So what do you think of Lady Gaga? What do you think of artists and their ways of becoming 'different' than others?

i freaking love lady gaga.
She's not unique.
Aside from her crazy outfits and music videos, she is a very talented musician and performer. For proof, just watch any of her acoustic performances: you can tell she has a classical piano background and a very powerful singing voice.
lady gaga is talked about too much already. Can't we just settle on the fact that she is talented and does things differently? Who are you to say what artists should and shouldn't do? Art is something that shouldn't be restrained, so long as you're not murdering people. The essence of art to showcase your creativity.
Besides, why would you want another plain Jane, a celebrity who's just like the rest?
@midnightblu3@xanga - Agreed 100%
Hating her is like the new way to be "cool" these days. So typical.
The only thing unique (if you even want to call it that) is the way she dresses. Nothing else. Although I will admit I LOVE her music!
I am basically never a fan of pop girls or whatever, but I like Lady Gaga. She's not just more of the same, and that's a good thing as far as I'm concerned.
I like Lady Gaga's music and yes I do agreed that she is unique
unique, to say the least.
still love her though.
she's clever by being different.
and although i don't quite like her, her songs are pretty awesome.
i suspect her inspiration is empire of the sun...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ltRV41TXO4i think she's beautiful underneath the mask and makeup :)
Out of your list, she's done everything but number 1... (that I know of?).
Meh, I don't see the big deal with her, but I like her "Bad Romance" video.
i sincerely dislike her. her music isn't that great and i'm sick of hearing about her.
@xrandom_enigmaxx@xanga - Yeah, I thought of them as her inspiration, plus the Aussie film "Starstruck" (her earlier styles are all carbon copies of how the main character dressed in that film), and Estonian singer Kerli. She's really not unique, just the one who's best advertised.
She dresses the way she dresses because she's short and bottom heavy, as a similarly shaped person I can assure you that I will almost always be in the shortest possible skirt (the best way to lengthen myself) and if I could wear leotards around I would lol.
Her make-up/hair choices seem similarly rooted in utility: in much the same way as Left-Eye from TLC, she often chooses asymmetry or even covering up one eye entirely (because, like Left-Eye, her features are asymmetrical, which, like being short and bottom-heavy, is fine in person but particularly nasty on camera).
First they said she was copying Christina Aguilera, then Beyonce, and now they're saying Madonna.
Only when there are enough Kesha's/other women they can claim are copying Gaga, will people begin to admit that Gaga is her own, original entity.
@MoonFaeEyryan@xanga - it's true that she copies a lot of her styles from other things, and it's pretty cool that you can find exactly what things she copies (mad eprops yo!) but in this hyperconnected world, where everything every person does can be seen, isn't it still pretty original to copy your style/wardrobe from people who are simply less known?
At the end of the day, she's just an extremely talented singer/songwriter who happens to be interested in art. We used to be OK with "singers" like Britney, who can't even be bothered to actually sing. Now we actually have a singer who actually sings (and writes her own music, and is an awesome performer...) and we expect her to make her own, original wardrobe also?
I'm personally fine with people like her (and you) just knowing about cool styles I haven't heard of, and sharing them with the world. =)
@missneeraja@tripcrazed - Nice comment!
@MoonFaeEyryan@xanga - i'd never heard of kerli so i looked her up on youtube.. i think i'll take her over lady gaga any day :) and you're right about lady gaga's advertising.
@shatterFocus@xanga - hah. Lady GAGa. lmao
I love her oh so much. She's the one for me. Honestly.
I absolutely LOVE her. She's been playing the piano since 4 years old and she writes songs. I think her style is wicked albeit a bit odd sometimes. Makeup is over the top, but not poorly done. I just really like her.
Her whimsical wardrobe and performances bring people in, her TALENT makes them stay.
