Fashion Sucks
There, I said it.
But I bet this statement has been in everyone's mind at one point in time. What is so great about fashion in general anyways? Personally, I think it sucks.
I mean, what happened to just wearing clothing so you can feel good? Now we live in a society where if you wore something that's considered "outdated" or "out of the norm" then you'll instantaneously be scrutinized.
There's numerous articles out there saying "Skinny jeans are retired!", "UGGs are a turn off!", or "Her fashion fail!" and whatnot, but know what gets on my nerves? It's the fact that we as a society should judge other peoples' fashion choices.
If someone wants to wear skinny jeans and Converse, why can't they? If someone like Lady Gaga wears her outrageous outfits, and does it confidently, who are we lash out on her for being crazy?
Fashion, style and such are personal preferences. If someone like Karl Lagerfeld or Anna Wintour claims that fur and leather goods are fashionable, are we all going to jump on this bandwagon and support the unnecessary killing of animals?
Following fashion can be a hobby and art, but when it gets to the point of criticizing other people, it's unhealthy.
So what do you think about fashion? Is it superficial or just a way of life?

just FYI...caring about clothing being fashionable is nothing new. i'm sure that no matter how far back you look, people have always been concerned with appearance and have been judgmental. not that being judgmental is okay, but it's nothing new.
fashion will always be this way. sometimes it's a good thing because who knows maybe you'll discover something that's 'in' that you might learn to like. yet at the same time fashion brings certain trends out/back and as a result it might burn out a trend you like which also sucks too =__=.
In the words of Oscar Wilde, "Fashion is a form of uglyness so intolerable we must alter it every six months"
huhhhmmm... well you have to admit that fashion in any case is going to be critisized whether or not it's healthy or unhealthy. not really much you can do except suck it up and take the critique. if you're confident enough to wear what you like and not cry because someone didn't accept it, then huzah for you :\
@Effervescent - It's a lot easier for guys :)
I feel great in a t-shirt and jeans combo, which a lot of people wear anyways :D
im always get "the look" because i dont dress some way, but i actually feel better about myself, it makes me feel like "at least i can put something myself and no one told me what not to wear" -_-" clothes its clothes, we all end up in pjs at the end
Fashion is... well... it just is. It's all opinion.
@Lil_Dude433@xanga - heeey me too XD seriously though- jeans and a tank with converse are good enough for me. bahahaaa
Fashion is good for expressing yourself, but we should not judge other people's expressions. Honestly.
@Effervescent - Comfort > appearance FTW!
I live in hoodies, tang tops, and jeans with converses.
fashion is a scam, it tells people they look dumb so buy their product, or that this will make you look attractive so buy it.
@crazedhobbit@xanga - Haha, true. :)
@sheflourishes@xanga - I agree.
Fashion can be a good thing or a bad thing. Fashion isn't just about trends it's about your personal style.
I agree. And even if, as some people above have said, fashion has always been this way or the industry will always be this way or w/e... it does not mean we all have to be sheep and accept. Fashion can be and often is an art. People can and should discuss it, display it, and most of all make it their own, like art. Like other art forms, it can be criticized... but sometimes clothing isn't trying to pass off as art, and if its not, there it has no standing to be criticized in the first place.
Sometime I may wear my uggs with shorts to the store to get some milk because it's comfortable and easy; I'm not trying to make a fashion statement, trying to show my profound art off, so I really don't think such things should be so widely criticized when they are not claiming to be on the same level as the "fashion" discussed.
@sheflourishes@xanga - agreed :)
Applaud applaud!
This is true. I critisize sometimes tho -__- Im guilty. But I look at it as an art AND hobby. Being different and comfortable and feeling beautiful should be what fashion is.
@crazedhobbit@xanga - Best comment I have ever seen on Lovelyish....
LONG LIVE OSCAR WILDE!
It is superficial they got people judging others for what brands they sport. They got crazy people spending crazy amounts of money on mediocre crap.
@crazedhobbit@xanga - I think that's my favorite Wilde quote ever.
...god that's good. Hahaha! I love it so much!
Its art.
Fashion for me is just a way to have fun with my clothing, but I try to never judge others' fashion choices. It's pretty personal and unique to everyone :]
Fashions is art and creativity. Also is not just fashion, people criticized social classes, race, people hanging around you and etc... Everyone has opinions, people will always judged and criticizing others to make them feel important.
@Abrilsuka@xanga - some people don't have pjs. We sleep NAKED keke
