Why I'm Boycotting New Moon...
I know there are a lot of people that will disagree with me when I say the Twilight series is not worth the hype it's been given, but I feel the need to explain why. A lot of people seem to bandwagon-hate Twilight, without really giving it a chance.
I have read all the books and seen Twilight. In fact, I used to be a fan, back when it was an obscure book. I read it when I was 12, before it became a fan girl obsession and household name.
Twilight teaches a very unrealistic and dangerous perspective to young girls. Edward is essentially the worst type of guy. In any other circumstance if a male said "I love you, but I might not be able to stop myself from killing you," that would be abusive and seen as a bad thing. However, in Twilight it's painted as being romantic.
Hey girls, guess what? It's OKAY to have a boyfriend who might kill you, it's romantic.... no.
Stephanie Meyer also makes Bella out to be a horrible role model for a female lead character. Bella Swan is one of the most whiny, dependent characters ever. Edward leaves in New Moon (after they've been together for only a short period of time) and her life is worthless. Teenagers rarely stay with their high school sweethearts, yet Stephanie Meyer glamorizes obsession.
Girls need to be taught that it's okay to be single; life doesn't end when a relationship does. Love should not define who you are as a person.
Also, in Breaking Dawn we see this weak example of female strength take a turn in a different direction. After very rough sex (in which Bella could have lost her life) she finds herself pregnant. Now, in most cases the heroine would consider options and make a choice based on what's best for herself and her partner, but not Bella. Bella decides to keep the baby, without a second thought.
With the amount of girls idolizing Bella, this pro-life statement could have a serious impact. Bella is a fucking idiot. For health reasons alone (the baby almost kills her), she makes a horrible choice. If a child puts both the mother and itself at risk, shouldn't girls be taught to think critically?
Bella is a weak character driven only by her unhealthy obsession with a guy and inability to make safe choices.
Think about the morals in this book and the values being taught by the idol of young girls. Is love more important than personal safety? Is obsession with another person to the point of wanting to die healthy?
I'm boycotting New Moon, I refuse to support a corrupting source of media. Losing your independence in obsession is not romantic.Do you find the same problems with Twilight? Are you going to see the movie?

you don't have to justify it.
Again with these. I'm not saying everyone has to like it, but Twihaters talk about it more than Twihards. It's mostly for site traffic.
It's just fiction & there's been worse stuff printed yet no one goes after those books.
I think that I don't care anymore. We've heard enough and I thought everyone had already shared their opinions on the last 27 blogs about New Moon.
@Shinbi_Belldandy@xanga - Exactly! I don't get the hype. I'm not a fan or a hater, I just don't think it matters enough to get all of this attention, lol. Let it go, people!
fu** no. I completely agree with you and find these to be EXTREMELY plausible reasons not to see twilight. I also read the first and second books and saw the first movie (not by choice, but I saw it nonetheless). The first one was fairly good, but I couldn't stand the second book because of how Bella acts. I don't understand how people can see this as good literature. Especially the older crowd.
I 100% agree with you.
And this is different from the other twilight blogs BECAUSE it has a decent reason to not like the twilight series, unlike the other blogs.
But yea, I also agree with the previous responses. All of this is slightly overrated by now and we're all just giving it more publicity. I'm just annoyed and sharing my opinion because a girl tried to fight me about it....
I don't see a problem with New Moon, or Twilight, or any of the books. I don't think it's meant for 12 year olds though, I think it should be left to a more mature audience - but is that going to happen? No.
I love the books, and I've seen the new movie twice already. Speaking from experience, I would have the same feelings in a relationship. I love the guy, and I honestly wouldn't care if he was like Edward. [Watching me sleep, etc] I think that's really romantic. I think it all is. And I'm completely obsessed and head-over-heels, too.
I can see your point about making it seem single is a bad thing & whatever else is "bad", but come on... it's fiction. Get a grip.
I'll always be a loyal fan.
vote for my entry, please!
You might want to put SPOILER on this because you essentially just ruined it for people who only follow the movies or have only read the first 2 books.
After Edward left her she was heartbroken as some girls are after their first real relationship ends. Especially when it ended the way it did. She starts forming a bond with Jacob and slowly gets her life back together. A lot of girls can relate to that.
The fact that you say you read all the books and saw the first movie. You USED to be a fan. You're like one of those people who hates things after they become popular. That's so annoying.
It's fiction, so hopefully not many people take it seriously enough to follow the characters examples.
Plus, this whole boycott thing isn't going to do much since it's already made $274.9 million.
I mean, you have a right to dislike whatever you want, but there's not a whole lot that can be done about the series now anyways.
It's is FANTASY as in NOT REALISTIC WHATSOEVER... Get over it, hating it isn't going to change someone's mind who absolutely loves it...So what it's not your cup of tea life moves on....
Oh yeah & I don't even like it it's just annoying the number of posts on here bashing it....
What is this? The 100th post dedicated to Twilight?
If you hate, fine, that's your own opinion.
I'm personally not a fan of Twilight and don't waste the time anymore on bashing this. Wanna know what hype is? It's us giving something attention.
Whether it be positive or negative, you're still devoting time to this cause, which is the Twilight saga.
What is it with the thousands of posts about why people don't like twilight? Who cares about your reasons for liking it or not liking it, that's what I think. If you do, great. If you don't, wonderful. Just....agh. Shut up about it....
@BellaGlam - As a part of Lovelyish can't you limit the amount of published posts? :P
And why aren't we seeing any posts about why someone might LIKE twilight? Are we biased, lovelyish?
I'm not going to see it because I don't want to pay $12 on a ticket. Nor am I a big fan so I'll just wait for it to come on my Netflix
I did see New Moon but coming from a Team Edward fan, I have problems with Edward too. Bella is clingy but he's also the one saying the only thing keeping him from committing suicide is Bella. So if Bella wanted to break up with him, she'd have to live with the worry and anxiety....unhealthy. Plus he keeps breaking his promises.
These books are nothing but fiction.
Something to attract a person's interest so that they can read it.
Stephanie wasn't trying to make the characters in the book role models.
I agree and disagree with what you have said.
True, people shouldn't look at these characters as role models
but! these are fictional characters.
People need to remember that. This is purely for entertainment.!!
i agree with everything you said... i've seen plenty of girls reading the books but i really wonder how anyone can take a novel about sparkling vampires seriously.
and apparently jacob becomes a pedo, from what i've been told ..
and female vampires can't have babies, yet edward impregnated bella.. that goes back to the ancient sexist belief that only women were infertile
New Moon was the funniest movie I've seen all year.
How many posts do people need to dedicate to why Twilight is such a bad series of books. Everyone is titled to their own opinion fair enough but maybe the characters are not meant to be role models. I definetly don't look to any of them as role models it's purely just for entertainment. No it's not the best thats ever been written but there has been worse. People should think for themselves and not be influenced by what characters do in books. Both people who are obsessed with the books and the constant bashing of the books are both as equally irritating.
can we just ban the talk of twilight forever?
posts from haters or loves, I AM SO SICK OF IT
STFU. Please. These anti-twilight and twilight related post are so old. Its getting annoying.
Dont be stupid. No one really cares why you like or dont like it. You probably dont care that I dont like it, that Im writing this all that.
I loved the books and have seen the movies. I see your point, but at the same time I don't see a book being to blame if someone will sit there and think hmm well what would Bella do in this situation? I'm sure some people would do that, I'm not saying otherwise..I'm just saying that's their own stupidity if they take it so seriously. It's a book, it's a movie. Not real life.
oh come on. there's been a constant rotation of male sex symbols throughout the years. it's not like rpatz or lautner are that much different. i'm sure they'll be replaced in time.
there's a fangirl in all of us. don't stone her to death.
You seem like you have an obsession with Twilight. Seeing as though you actually took the time to write about it.
P.S. I agree with what they said ^. These blogs are so overrated.
