  • Carrie Prejean, Your "Liberal Conspiracy" Theory is Ridiculous

    Source

There’s an old saying that a man who speaks his mind is considered an assertive leader, but a woman who speaks her mind? She’s just considered a bitch. Someone must have told Carrie Prejean about this because she’s taken it as her motto and run.

The dethroned Miss California was back on the media junket today, promoting her new book, “Still Standing: The Untold Story of My Fight Against Gossip, Hate, and Political Attacks.” She was also fielding questions about a recently surfaced “sex” tape, in which she apparently is filmed alone. In an interview with Meredith Vieira this morning, Prejean called the sex tape the biggest mistake of her life, before going on to say that the tape is just further proof in a long line of evidence that the liberal, mainstream media is trying to silence her because of her conservative views. According to Prejean:

"There is a liberal bias in the media and it’s unfortunate that conservative women are attacked...for their beliefs. It’s unacceptable and it shouldn’t happen... Since when does free speech not exist? Since when is someone able to go on TV and call someone the most awful names you can think of?"

I have no doubt that Ms. Prejean was unfairly criticized during the backlash to her remarks about same-sex marriage. She had a right to express her opinion and should not have been called names. To insist, however, that she is the target of a media conspiracy against conservative women is beyond ridiculous. In the seven months since she first entered the spotlight, Prejean has been interviewed by countless news programs, become a spokesperson for the National Organization for Marriage, and has now published a memoir. If anything, she has benefited tremendously from the controversy surrounding her.

Prejean argues that she is being attacked now, not because of her sex tape, but because of a double standard. In a way she is right, but it’s not the media’s double standard that is causing the problem; it’s her own. Apparently, in Ms. Prejean’s world, you can say things like, “Our bodies are temples of the Lord. We should earn respect and admiration for our hearts, not for showing skin to look sexy,” all while getting breast implants, posing semi-nude for photographs, and parading around on stage in a bikini at a beauty pageant. I have no problem with her doing those things. I do have a problem with this: if anyone dares to question her about the seeming discrepancy between her stated beliefs and her actions, she tells them that they are discriminating against her gender, her religion and her conservative views. Since when is making a sex tape a part of the conservative belief system?

The most frustrating thing about Prejean’s claim of biased reporting is that it takes away from women who have really experienced such unfair scrutiny. Last year’s presidential campaign called attention to what Katie Couric called, “the continued and accepted role of sexism in American life…particularly in the media,” when candidates Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin were raked over the coals for everything from their voices to their hair styles to their parenting approaches. Accusing someone of being a ball-busting harpie or pimping out her daughter because you don’t like her politics? That’s the kind of sexist reporting that all women need to stand against, but that is not what is happening to Carrie Prejean. By including herself in this group, Prejean has taken a deeply entrenched issue and turned it into the whining battle cry of a self-proclaimed martyr.

This book tour will probably not be the last we hear from Carrie Prejean, who seems to have a knack for extending her fifteen minutes indefinitely. As she puts it, “They’ve tried to embarrass me, they’ve tried to humiliate me, they’ve tried to attack me and I’m still standing.” Hmmm…wouldn’t that make a great name for a book?

What do you think about Prejean's claim?

Yeah...didn't it turn up that she not only had one sex tape, but something like seven?
That's not "liberal bias", that's "shut off the camera or quit preaching about modesty and purity, you hypocritical bimbo".

  • schallerbrandon@xanga

    Fame whore.

And not as good as Paris.

  • xsPoNgEs_go_SQUISHx13@xanga

that title would be a bit long ;)

see, miss prejean is one of those people whom you don't want supporting a cause that you support. the double standard definitely exists; in politics (there's definitely more liberalism out there and more prestige that goes into liberal news organizations. it's kind of undeniable.) and gender alike. but miss prejean should shut up once in a while.

i supported her when she was being harrassed for being against gay marriage; i'm for them but dude, an opinion is an opinion. she has no real power; we only used her as a scapegoat because Prop 8 won and she was one of the first publicized person to be anti-homosexuality. anger still pent up after the election? take it out on the dumb blonde was pretty much America's reaction to her.

I seriously think that woman is.. I don't even have the words to describe her. Seeing her on Larry King was the tip of the iceberg, she looked like an idiot. If I say anything more about this woman, it would be a rant, and I don't want that.

  • frozencherries@xanga

i honestly think she's mildly retarded.

  • bass_chick57

    Hahahaha.
I feel like she's an example of the "entitlement generation" that I am also considered a part of.
She's probably been given everything all her life without argument (spoiled so she wouldn't throw tantrums, etc.), so now when people disagree with her/say NO, she doesn't know how to handle it and blames people!

I do think it was unfair when she was criticized for her Gay Marriage Opinion... It's an Opinion for pete's sakes. Doesn't mean I agree with her opinion (I don't, I think there should be equal rights for gay couples, thus the right to get married if they so choose) but she is entitled to her opinion like I am entitled to mine. Although I do think she's a royal idiot with/because of all her hypocrisies. Practice what you preach, please.

    :)

@schallerbrandon@xanga - which Paris? The attention seeking whore, or the attention seeking whore?

  • WhenHateIsTheOnlyOption@xanga

She loves Jesus but I don't Jesus likes showing skin or vanity. "Frozen cherries" may be on to something, she might be retarded.

  • Shinbi_Belldandy@xanga

I dont like Carrie for the simple fact that she's a hypocrite, a whiner & attention whore. Why is it that everytime sometime pops up, it's political? She's not even in politics! What's done in the dark always comes to light. She was an idiot long before taking part in that pageant to think that tape & pictures would "stay private".

  • Shinbi_Belldandy@xanga

@bass_chick57 - "She's probably been given everything all her life without argument (spoiled so she wouldn't throw tantrums, etc.), so now when people disagree with her/say NO, she doesn't know how to handle it and blames people!"

    I think you're 100% right.

  • xoctoberskye@xanga

I hate hypocrites who don't realize that they're hypocrites. She needs to go away.

  • Erika_Steele@xanga

I have nothing to add to what the first poster said.

  • aile_striker@xanga

shes stupid..i dunno why people are putting so much attention on her...waste of time/energy

no offense to blonde girls...but this is like...the blonde girl depicted in movies...plain stupid. and like i said really no offense to any blondies here =)

  • nerdishh8D@xanga

i don't even know who she is.

man, i'm so out of touch with celebrity life...

  • goodgirl_196@xanga

I agree with what most everyone has said before me but I'd like to call attention to this snippet:

"...Since when does free speech not exist? Since when is someone able to go
on TV and call someone the most awful names you can think of?"

Now, in my crazy world, that's a contradiction. I would think that a person being able to call someone "the most awful names" on television would be considered free speech, e.g. one taking advantage of his/her right to say what ever s/he would like. Considering Prejean has said everything she's wanted to say, and then some, (though not very well...) and will continue to say what ever she'd like then I'd say she's in no place to tell others they can't say what they believe or feel. Should public responses be more tactful, possibly, more respectful, probably, but she can't take away someone else's right to speak their minds just because it doesn't paint a pretty picture of her. Also, considering everything that's "against her" as being conspiratory is ridiculous. She should know the meaning of a word before trying to use it, I've found that generally helps...

I'm not really going to speak up in defense about her politics, but that sex tape never should have come out in the media. Why? because she was under 18 when she made it. It's child pornography and whoever put it out there is guilty of distributing child pornography and should spend a good amount of time in jail. Was she stupid for making a sex tape for her then boyfriend? Absolutely yes. Was it wrong? Absolutely yes. Does it make her stupid? A little. Does it dicredit everything about her? No.

It would have been hypocritical if she made the tapes and didn't acknowledge it was wrong. However, she admits it was a mistake. Admiting that one's past actions may not measure up to what they believe is right is not a hypocritical thing to do. You'd be hard pressed to find someone who is absolutely perfect and who always lives up to moral standards.

  • LouLouLouie@xanga

    @frozencherries@xanga - "i honestly think she's mildly retarded."
You know, I'm beginning to agree with this. Her hypocrisy and stupidity borders on absurd and the only way I can fathom this is to put it down to her honestly not realising because of her mild retardation.

  • LouLouLouie@xanga

@Toshi-girl - I thought it was recently revealed that she was, in fact, over 18 when the tapes were made.

  • kiwifruitbowl@xanga

she's stupid. can I go on tv and complain about how dumb bitches keep getting book deals, and how the smart ones are completely neglected? She literally just said "what happened to free speech?" and then reneges on that comment by saying "why can people go on tv and say mean things etc"

    WTF. Go play in traffic.

  • anonymous

@LouLouLouie@xanga - I read that she was 17, but the source could have been wrong (I think I saw it on yahoo? I don't quite remember right now.) And while 17 is the age of consent in some states, I think it would still qualify as child pornography under federal law if she was, in fact, under 18.

  • schallerbrandon@xanga

@WhenHateIsTheOnlyOption@xanga - Was that a rhetorical question? Because I answered: The attention seeking whore.

  • MoonFaeEyryan@xanga

Always remember this, she's a beauty queen because she couldn't be a scientist...

  • anonymous

She's a dumb bitch that needs to shut the fuck up. Nobody likes her... She is irrelevant... please get the hell out of this universe. Thank you.

  • aimhigh_17@xanga

THANK YOU! This post is amazing. Ms. Prejean is not "playing with a full deck." That is for sure. I hope she looks back one day and realizes what an idiot she is.
