Did Miley Cyrus Use "Gay" As an Insult?
People in the blogosphere are freaking out because while
singinggargling out her song "7 Things" in Louisville, Miley Cyrus appears to change the lyrics from "You're game" to "You're gay."Listen to the clip: I can't figure out if she's intentionally saying "gay," or if the strangled way she sings just makes the end of the word "game" drop off.
What do you think? Do you think it's wrong if she said "gay?"
Tell 'em, Hilary!

Stop stretching the matter for God's sake. Maybe it was just accidental. What kind of idiot would intentionally try to lose any kind of fan base?
@TequilaKisses@xanga - What the hell, she can "stretch the matter" if she wants too.
hey if they can change gay from meaning "happy" to "one who lusts after their own flesh" than I don't see why we can't change it's meaning to "stupid"
She probably didn't say gay. She probably lost the end of the word from lack of breath because of all those head flips. Jeez! That girl is gonna get whiplash! When you say 'game' and forget the 'm' it sounds like 'gay'. Not a big deal.. Gay means happy too. She could be saying 'your happy'.
It was probably accidental.
@TequilaKisses@xanga - (I don't think she's intelligent enough to realize that this would cost her fans to begin with.)
If you listen to the clip, I think it's pretty apparent that she's not trying to be offensive - she just can't speak (and hence, cannot sing either).
So moral of the story: Miley fails either way.
Yaaay for crappy music...
...And not wearing pants on stage...what the hell was she thinking?
@coffeeishappinessinacup@xanga - hahahha "lusting after your own flesh?" really?
and she probably does use gay as an insult (as all other
i don't care about her but i like hilary duff, she's hot
@coffeeishappinessinacup@xanga - It's highly offensive, that's why. If someone throws "gay" into a conversation, it gets so easily passed off as nonchalant slang. But if someone began to substitute "stupid" with something like - oh, I don't know - "straight" or "hetero," I can guarantee you that all hell would break loose.
Double standards really piss me off.
@yeahitslindsay@xanga - i agree
Lol, we live in a free country...don't we? She should be allowed to say whatever she wants! If singers can sing about drugs, sex, and murder then why the hell should Miley take ANY heat from possibly...maybe...we don't know whether she did or not..almost saying, "You're vain, you're gay," in one of her songs? Loosen up! Maybe people shouldn't get so offended and bent out of shape so damn easily, lol... Don't take everythink so personally!
she ran out of breath? like i'm not a fan of miley by any means at all, but this is mad nitpicky.
it sounds like it was unintentional. really tho, it's part of the word game and it's kind of a quick song. It's not right if she said it on purpose but I won't kill the girl for it. It's all about context. :/
Gay and Game have the same linguistic beginnings, you can't scream the m sound in game. She probably slipped. . .
Sidenote: She looks ugly singing like that. >.>
@LauraG0929@xanga - amen to that.
@LiquidityOfSelf@xanga - It shouldn't be offensive. I don't understand why people feel like they are always under attack...when really, I doubt people even think about the fact that they are gay nearly as much as they think other people do in the first place. I'm straight, so what...you can say that something is straight as a sub for saying something is stupid if you want to. I wouldn't get pissed, because frankly...your opinion doesn't matter enough. Also, I think that I'd probably laugh about it a little. That's what people need to do, just let things roll off instead of getting SO upset about something to insignificant.
Who really cares? She can say it if she wants. Being gay isn't right, AT ALL.
i honestly dont care if she uses gay as an insult. i mean tons of people do that even gay people do so i dont see why we care anymore it is gay
Not a Miley fan, but I can't imagine her saying 'gay' as an insult on purpose. It just doesn't seem appropriate, and with all the criticism she gets it doesn't just seem plausible.
@TequilaKisses@xanga - when it comes to miley, i dont shes intentionally trying to lose her audience, but actions speak louder than the words her songwriters write for her... on many occasions she's shown her true age and ignorance.
@iseetheworldinhiseyes19@xanga - that wasn't a relevant comment. The question was about Miley Cyrus using 'gay' as an insult, not if being gay is right or not. I recommend you keep your views out of where they don't belong, as it's very obviously insulting to some people.
Why should it matter? She's just another disney star turned pop robot, who will probably lose her moment in the spotlight in about a year or so. Unless she makes a sex tape.. let's hope she doesn't.
@tinyxballerinax3@xanga - Of course she can, but the matter is so minor that it shouldn't have been stretched at all.
@LiquidityOfSelf@xanga - Well, we don't know that yet. And it sounds like she just lost her breath right there. I don't like her either, I'm just trying to be unbiased. I guess, we'll have to wait and see what her manager has to say later :P
@Delia712@xanga - To each of their own, I guess. I just think that the word "gay" is so commonly used to describe something as bad, ugly, fugly, stupid etc... that it can be accidentallty flipped out anytime even though we don't like it.
@TequilaKisses@xanga - Haha, I know right? I'm sure he'll come up with something interesting...
@LauraG0929@xanga - It shouldn't even be SAID - I'm actually really curious as to where it's roots began - who started subbing "gay" for "stupid" in the first place? I really do detest the intolerance it conveys. Lawsuits and edginess wouldn't be necessary if the people themselves simply stopped using that phraseology - it's sad that it even exists, you know?
