Relax, Everyone, Push-Up Bras are Just Fine
I just read an article in my school's newspaper patronizing the new Victoria's Secret bra, the Miraculous Push-Up. The article stated that wearing the bra is not only false advertising (since it adds the appearance of two cup sizes), but it is also demeaning to women, making us try to fit into an unrealistically attainable mold.
Here's what I have to say in response to the article. Sure, it's misleading to make a B-cup girl look like she's got a set of D's, but it's a push-up bra! Giving the appearance of larger breasts is the whole point of a push-up bra. Yes, this particular bra gives more oomph than others may have, but what's wrong with that? If we're condemning this bra because it falsely advertises a girl's cup size, shouldn't we also condemn corsets, Spanx, control-top pantyhose, etc?
Plenty of clothes mislead the viewer into thinking that the wearer has a nicer body than they actually have. Dark colors and verticle lines are slimming, for example. Girls typically wear make-up to make themselves look prettier; is that so bad too? Point is, the girl who buys this bra might wish that she were more "blessed in the chest" but may not want to or have the money to have implants. Or perhaps she just wants to look extra busty every now and then. What's so wrong with that?
Further, I disagree that the bra objectifies women. Who's to say she's wearing it solely to look better for a man? Sure, it's likely, but she could also just be wearing it for herself, for an extra boost of confidence. I don't think that by buying the bra, you're condoning an unattainable mold for women. Look the way you want, whether it's your natural breast size or adding some padding to it.
What do you guys think about Victoria's Secret's New Miraculous Push-Up? Would you buy it?

I love them!!! :D
I like it, and I have a few push up bras. There is only one person who ever sees if the cup size it looks like I have is the one I actually have, my husband, and he likes them. Also I mostly wear my bras for my comfort and for making myself feel good.
I love them, too, even though I don't really need them. *lol*
Word.
Agreed! It's nice to feel sexy sometimes
I dont wear pushups, Never was into them
i want it....
I wear one every day.
I hate push up bras.. they're insanely uncomfortable.
I will only wear push-up bras.
thank you pregnancy and breast-feeding. haha
I can't wait to get a miraculous bra. My sister had one on last weekend, and her boobs pretty wonderful.
Well, why should her breast size be linked to her confidence? Who is telling her that small breasts are unattractive?
I don't need one and even if I wanted one, they don't come in my size. Fredrick's of Hollywood has had a similar one for a couple of years now that does come in my size. I wear it for laughs.
Lol, who cares its just a bra. I have a hard time believing it'd make my B's look like D's though.
that chick's face is weird.
@ghostcomplex@xanga - poor poor photoshop fcked her face up. =(
@just_the_average_jane@xanga - eeeeeeeeeeexxactly. forget diamonds, push ups are a girls' new best friend ^.^
IAWTP
I wear push ups but they only make me a little bigger. I wouldn't know what to do with that bra haha. I'd be huge :o But I'm not saying no to trying it out :p
The only girls that put down a woman wearing a push up bra are jealous ;)
I lost mine. :/
I just saw a commercial for it and I want to go try it on for myself. I am just very thankful for the push up bra and ass size reducing spanks! You should submit this post to your schools paper.
I like them... they feel supportive and nice.
Saying that you wear a push-up bra for yourself is a little silly. Do you feel like a better person looking down at your larger-appearing boobs throughout the day? It might be good for a quick cheap ego boost when men stare for an extra second or two but are we really that insecure? Haven't we gotten past being an awkward middle schooler who got teased for resembling a surfboard? And wouldn't you rather they notice your radiant smile or what you have to say? I feel confident and pretty when my small boobs are comfortably contained in a bra that hugs them without adding thick FAKE uncomfortable padding. Then again, in a combat situation the padding could be good protection...
i think those those bras are fine. and that pseudo-feminist article freaking fails. you know what's demeaning to women? the assumption that just because they may want to fill out their shirts more that they are "advertising."
I love push-up bras. They accentuate what you already have. And if they're padded, that's another dimension (literally) that you can opt for or against. And yes, they are uncomfortable IF you get the uncomfortable kind, which is kind of a duh.
