  • Have You Ever Had Fake Nails?

Have You Ever Had Fake Nails?

Acrylic nails kind of freak me out, Lovelies. It's such an expensive, tedious process, and it really damages your nailbeds. But who knows? My sister got a full set once and she was hooked. Maybe I just need to give it a go. I do like the look of acrylics; I just need to decide if it's worth the time, money and commitment...hmmm, it's kind of like dating

Have you ever had acrylics or press-ons, or any other kind of nail enhancement? Do you have them now? Did you like them?

my nails are so weak that they actually help 'em. they're protected by the fake nails and i dont bite them and whatnot. so when they come off my natural nails are the length i want them to be. i think they're something everyone should try at least once. they're fun to have. and you can get like any sort of disign on them and you can choose the length and shape which is cool. i always make sure mine are rounded and short enough. one of my friends get them huge and square haha.

I used to bite my nails all the time, and they constantly looked horrible.  Then, around last February, I decided to try putting press-ons on to see if I could kick the habit... and it worked!  I got the kind that came off after a week (so I could change them often... I am always painting my nails!), so I went through about 4 different sets for a month.  Since then, I haven't been biting my nails at all!  They're nice and strong and healthy.

I've used them once since then, and that was for a wedding.  I was walking down a cosmetic aisle for kicks, and I saw a pair that matched exactly the dress I was wearing.  They're fun for things like that when you want something special and don't want to spend a lot of money on a manicure.

I don't know about acrylics, though.  I'm not sure I would like to pay for them.  At least with the press-ons, I could remove it myself very easily if I wanted, and there was very little damage done.

I have tried acrylic nails a couple times. They're nice, for the most part. Although they do damage your nails, it feels nice to have long, perfectly shaped nails for a couple weeks to a month. After a while, I start getting annoyed with the length and just take them off.

no..too expensive and the really long ones are gross.

  • s_h_a_sha@xanga

nope i am too rough for it >.<

  • methodElevated@xanga

No.  I don't see the point, and they would get in the way of making art, especially jewelry.

Nope, but I get accused of having them quite often because I can grow my real nails out to be an inch long. It's so weird because I'll have random people grab my hand and say "I know these are not real".

I've gotten them a couple of times. Around my house it's only 20-25 dollars. I like them but I hate the damage they do to my nails. I rather just grow my real nails out and paint them or attempt to french my own nails.

I've had them, and they're fine for a while. But then it's annoying. When you take them off, your nails are wrecked. But if you don't periodically due so, theyre still wrecked. Important occassions are one thing, but for the most part I just use my own

Press-ons are great for a night, but you have to be prepared to lose one or two. When I do them, they rarely all stay on for the entire night. I love the look of acrylics, but they are both expensive and damaging. I always feel like it's kind of annoying to do things with them on, but when I used to get them done religiously I always got compliments on how they looked. They sell all the materials to do them at Sally's, and if you've seen them done about 382743982 times like I have, you should be able to do them yourself if you want.

Buying all the stuff initially will probably cost about the same as a set of acrylics + tip (at least, at a decent nail salon) but it'll last you awhile. I haven't gotten around to trying it yet, but I've known people who have done it themselves and it turned out well. Once I master it on myself, I'm thinking about offering my services to friends--they'd get their nails done for way cheaper than at a salon, and I'd make back all the money I spent on supplies, plus hopefully earn a little spending money for myself. Acrylic nails are seriously so easy to do; it's disgusting that have to we spend $40+ for them each time we go to the salon!!

I always have acrylics on, I get them filled every few weeks, so I never take them off to see the damage. & I like my nail pretty long. I have all the stuff to do them myself I just prefer to get them done at the salon, it's like a little treat for me to relax and such.

I have worn them and it really made my nails brittle, I don't reccommend them!

  • turn0ff_theshyness_820@xanga

i had acrylics from may up until now. i always hated them.. only getting them for prom. but with my job... they worked out perfectly and i decided to keep them for a little. I coached gymnastics (so now i wasnt scratching the girls), and I work in retail. In retail it helped a lot dealing with hangers and hardware breaks nails a lot, but with my acrylics they never broke! I decided to give my fingers a rest, the skin around my nails were callicing, and i didnt like that. But I cannot wait to get them back on!!! I decided around christmas time. My nails are really brittle now, but of course they would be.. they have to sand the nail down to get it smooth to put them on.
One of my best friend, her boyfriend would pay for every fill she got because he loved the way it felt when he rubbed her back.

I have had acrylics and press-ons a numerous times.
The acrylics are expensive but it's fun and if you don't get them too long it's very polished looking. =)
They also last a fair amount of time.

I also like the press-ons. It gives the same polished look, the only issue is that they tend to fall off sooner rather than later.

  • Erika_Steele@xanga

I've had acrylics twice and press ons once.  The first set of acrylics were too long.  I thought they were weird. I liked the second pair.  The press ons were for 8th grade graduation.  I shouldn't have to elaborate on how those were.

When I wear fake nails I do the ones which are $5-$7 a pop at the grocery store or Target. They're pretty easy to work with when putting them on......when accomplishing tasks with them, that's an entirely different story

  • coffeeishappinessinacup@xanga

yes I like to buy the cheap 5 dollar ones shorten them so they look real and than paint them my signature color.

  • jennielee@xanga

get silk wraps.  they're about $55 for a full set, $25 for fill-ins.  i couldn't live without them.

  • The_Tudor_Rose@xanga

I had them once in cosmetology school. I hated them. They were hard to text with and I'm used to having long nails of my own, so they just seemed thick. It was irritating. I'm blessed with nice nails, I'm not going to cover them up.

but, my best friend LOVES them. she has brittle nails that break down painfully far, and they save her a lot because they prevent her natural nails from breaking all the way down.

  • chives737@xanga

I got them for my Prom one year and they were cute and fun. My friend and I instantly fell in love with wearing them, but a week later they are just irritating and not practical. (&& when you hit them on stuff it aches and it's just an odd, painful feeling) They're fun for a little bit, but to me they got old pretty quick...and they're soooo hard to get off!

  • oO_Grace_Oo@xanga

i've had gel nails done a few times, look gorgeous but if u ever wanna remove it..be ready for some ugly, fragile nails for months

  • azashi@xanga

    they look like they'd hurt.

i just make sure i keep my nails clean of those white things under your nails, put a couple of clear coats on, make a nice stripe of white at the top, seal it with a top coat, and pass it off as a french manicure. the best thing is that they're my real nails. :D
