What is Our Obsession with Critiquing Miley Cyrus?

I read two posts about Miley Cyrus (what a surprise!) in the Xanga network. The first post "Stop Calling Miley Cyrus a Slut!" was focused on an act that she did at the Kid's Choice Awards regarding a pole. It was viewed as a stripper pole to a lot of people because of the way Miley "used it"... First of all, she was using it for balance. How else would she be able to dance on an ice cream cart while it's moving without falling on her face? If you watched the Youtube video, she wasn't brushing up against it, nor was she caressing it with her body in any sexual way. She simply held onto it for support. Stripper pole? I beg to differ. Total Overreaction!
And in the most recent post "Miley Cyrus and Her Stripper Pole- So Wrong!" was a rant centered on another performance that she did involving a leather outfit that showed some cleavage. As said in the post, most 16 year old girls do a lot worse! The only difference is they aren't being publicly viewed by the United States or Europe or the Middle East. Not to mention that Cyrus probably doesn't choose her outfits for her performances...
SO! We all know that Miley is going through a teen thing, and we all know that if we were the ones getting that much attention, we'd be a tad bit addicted, too. Boobs aren't that offensive for the U.S at least, nor is using a pole for support, and Cyrus wasn't pulling a Janet Jackson (thank god!), so this manifest of her being a slut or whore is really very unnecessary.
What's your opinion? Is calling Miley a slut totally bogus?

THANK YOU.
Calling her a slut is so ridiculous. I've known so many girls who did far worse things at much younger ages, and showing a little cleavage or having a pole to hold on to in a dance routine is not slutty. People just hate her to hate her.
I'm kind of a miley stan :-\
i hate her. haha. thats all.
I don't think she's a slut. I don't like her music and never will. I don't really like her in general- but then, I don't know her as a person, just as a celebrity, and so I have no right to assume anything.
The ice cream cart + pole thing is...I really feel like that was just bad choreography -___- I mean how could they NOT foresee that people would automatically compare it to a stripper pole? She really only used it for balance, but it just doesn't seem like a very smart idea. Heels + Dancing + Moving Vehicle [I'm gonna count the ice cream cart as a vehicle] = BAD. IDEA. If not the stripper pole freak out, there was definitely danger of her falling off...
Most of the complaining is about how she's supposed to be this wholesome role model for little girls, and so anything provocative is *bad*. When I was a kid, I still thought pokemon and the power rangers were like, the coolest thing ever. You really can't expect a teenager thrown into the spotlight to be a perfect role model :/ It's just unrealistic and unfair as well, to put some much pressure on her like that. You're going to make mistakes while you grow up, she just gets comments on her actions from the whole world rather than people who actually know her.
as I posted before,
"I'm not a fan of her BUT everyone grows up. It happens.
However!
I do believe whoever is in charge (such as a publicist or someone along
those lines) should help make [the changes] more gradual in the public view. All
of these young stars have to come into their own and mature and make
music or choose films of their taste, but they just have to be careful
of the fan base they have created and transition into having a
different fan base if they aren't going to be a disney idol for the
rest of their life."
I do think everything on her is excessive. I don't really care. Can we stop posting about her yet? She's what, 16? 17? Leave the girl alone so we can focus on something more interesting than some teenage girl who is exploring what its like to actually be a teenager.
Some people think she is a role model for 6 year olds so she has to be virginal, pristine, and pure. I disagree and think parents are responsible for teaching their kids the difference between a stage persona and a real person. It is also the parents job to teach the difference between OK for a 6 year old and OK for a 16 year old. I won't change my mind much like the role model people won't change thiers. I seriously hope this is the last post on is Miley Cyrus a slut b/c I might just have to start saying no she isn't a slut because she gets paid for it.
she isn't a slut but is fashionably tacky with trashy looking outfits. it isn't her fault if her stylist chose those outfits. beyonce looks impeccable most of the time. maybe miley should discuss with her manager or whoever is in charge and hire a better fashion consultant.
@Erika_Steele@xanga - Thank you, I agree x 3
And I also agree with the original poster :)
ATTENTION!
OOOH NOOOO im admitting to two mistakes i made in this post... i messed up the links accidentally and i am very sorry.. the first post "Stop calling Miley Cyrus a Slut!" is supposed to be for the second paragraph and "Miley Cyrus and her Stripper Pole- So Wrong!" is supposed to be for the first paragraph. Please forgive the switcharoo :]
we wouldn't have a forum on which to hate her if people like yourself didn't keep posting about her. :)
other kids act/dress worse than she does. true, but how the hell does that mitigate her ill-advised actions? i don't like calling children "sluts." but i don't like when children act like sluts, either. i find her tasteless, and i think she's a poor role-model.
I'm not really interested in her as a celebrity, but I did think it was unfair of older middle-aged boring-looking women who claim to be "concerned" about Miley trying too hard to be sexual.
Ever see the South Park episode where we sacrifice Britney Spears for corn harvest?
Yeah, Miley Cyrus is next. :)
I. Don't. Care.
And why should anyone else?
No, I don't think she's a slut but if she was than that is her choice and more power to her.
I think she is just one of those celebs people LOVE to hate, and so they knit-pick until they can find something to point to and say, "See? THIS is why I hate her."
@VintageVeganVixen@xanga - True that
i just heard the last four bars of her song, something about the U.S.A. today. yes, i am so behind. i think that's my first miley experience. other than that, i don't know anything about or of her except she's the daughter of billy ray cyrus and she's filthy rich.
so i don't really know why people are complaining.
the way i see if, if you don't like something, just change the channel, turn the page, click out of the site. but from my experience, people who are committed to finding and writing faults about celebrities are actually fans in disguise. lol.
I find blaming the parents for not being better role models as a result of why they complain.
When I was growing up I didn't have a celebrity role model. I thought my parents were the best entities alive and wanted to grow up with the same positive attributes they distilled in me.
If parents aren't able to control their children, then who's fault is it really?
Shouldn't it be "criticizing" instead of "critiquing"?
Maybe some of what she has done is innocent but alot of what she has done hasn't been innocent. Liking her is one thing, defending her poor choices and stupid behavior is another. There are things that she has done, both in her life in general and while performing or during public appearances that make her look bad. That's why LOTS of people don't like her and why so many critique her, because instead of viewing her as she did this and admitting it was a BAD choice, her over the top fans DEFEND her.
While I can't nor can anyone else call her a slut because we don't know much, if anything about that side of her life, she isn't innocent. If her beloved fans would stop defending her every move, others would stop being so hard on her!
@soarnow@xanga - my title was edited to say that.. matter of fact my original title was "The Miley Manifest: Totally Bogus" XD yeaaah anyways
lol i feel like you quoted one of my comments directly. ANYWHOO...
i agree that her performance was just due to her safety... and that her videos/performances with certain clothing is kinda whoa but again, kids do dress or even act a lot worse than that...
she's 16. hormones are flaring.. the need to feel beautiful or sexy is another factor.. and though she may not choose an outfit for her performances, i'm sure that if she feels like it's uncomfortable for her to dress a certain way, she'll speak up...
i havent watched hannah montana lately but from what i remember, her outfits are usually in layers and doesnt really show off much of her skin or boobs.. so even though in the music business, she's kinda getting up there.. on tv, where kids are able to watch at any time... she kinda calms it down with t he outfits.
(rambling.....)
who gives a crap about Miley Cyrus... I'm really tired of hearing about her.
let's talk about what a great role model Selena Gomez is... she's an ambassador for UNICEF(the youngest one). She is humble, sweet, and an all around great person... I say someone should make a post about her =] There's nothing bad you can say about this girl.
@prettyboy78@xanga -
TOTALLY AGREE! Thank you.
Like watMissPixieGlitter@xanga "we wouldn't have a forum on which to hate her if people like yourself didn't keep posting about her. :)" Also, I wouldn't call her a slut or a whore because she's a kid and she's not sleeping with the whole world. But what I can say is if she wants to do those stuff like dancing on poles and wearing tight lace and leather, and showing off her new found breasts, she should quit being a child role model.
@anonymousgirlie - -Facepalm-
She's a public figure. She's going to be critized.
Like I said, she wouldn't be a slut in my book if it weren't for her racy pictures.
