Fake Boobs or GTFO: The Miss Plastic Surgery Pageant
the 22-year-old winner, Reka Urban
Last week, Hungary held a beauty pageant with a twist. All of the contestants were required to have undergone plastic surgery! You can read about this "beauty" pageant here. I put the word beauty in quotation marks because I have always considered beauty pageants to be a showcase of natural beauty and especially, inner beauty. Each contestant here had to have some work done: nose jobs, breast augmentation, Botox, or "surgically-adjusted toes".
Hungary put on this pageant to reduce the negative connotations of plastic surgery. I think it puts way too much emphasis on physical beauty. What irks me the most is this quote by plastic surgeon, Dr. Rozsos: "This is about restoring harmony ... eliminating asymmetries and giving women the opportunity to have normal features." What?
So the rest of us who didn't go under the knife have abnormal features? Big boobs, puffy lips, and wrinkle-free faces are all normal features we want to have? What's interesting to note is that the winning contestant's plastic surgeons also received prize money.
What are your thoughts and opinions on this plastic surgery-only pageant?

It's dumb.
Does it matter?
Plastic surgery is becoming more and more common so the sooner we get used to that idea, the less controversy it will have on us all.
A century ago sex was purely for reproduction, now it's for pleasure (and reproduction, I guess).
no thanks
plastic surgery is as common as getting your tooth pulled.
it's stupid, but whatever.
xo
Plastic surgery = dumb. But that's just MY opinion.
ugh. natural beauty please.
wtf.
gross
I could care less or maybe I couldn't care less..
More power to these women. I have had breast reduction because I was unhappy with my breast size (they were very abnormally large). I am all for a woman who is unhappy to change something about herself that will make her feel better about herself. Who are we to judge? They have their reasons for getting it, and others have their reasons not to get it.
hahaha.
It's not like Botox is enough for them. You had to have a *major* surgery to join.
Why can't people be content enough with their own bodies... The only rule is to stay healthy!
Eh. I guess if you want to put them in a category of their own, maybe because plastic surgery is sort of...cheating? Though I don't really understand why a girl who is only 22 years old would need plastic surgery!
But I'm not one to totally piss on plastic surgery...I'm fully grown and at 5'7'' and 135 lbs, I just don't look too great with size "nearly A" boobs. Just saying, I wouldn't say never to it at some point in my life...
If you think about it, should we really oppose against plastic surgery? Why do we praise Natural beauty? I mean, sure. Plastic surgery can turn ugly/average-looking girls into beautiful women. But you hate that idea of getting under the knife. You'd rather accept your ugliness, yet you still complain or sulk about it.
I understand. I don't like seeing people with fake faces, because they threw away the face that they were born with, the face that many other women have. It's offensive! But then again, we still find natural beauty (physical) something out of reach. I get just as jealous thinking about girls with natural beauty.
Plastic surgery is not much of a difference next to natural beauty.
i actually support plastic surgery. there are a lot of people who don't need to go under the knife. natural beauty is the best if you are naturally beautiful.
but if you're born with facial abnormalities or attain physical damages in life that diminishes your face or figure, plastic surgery is a blessing.
um, more power to whoever has the money to put the pageant on?
this is really stupid =/
lol! Might as well; it's not like most beauty pageants aren't rife with the results cosmetic surgery already. Beauty pageants are silly but this added degree of silliness isn't shocking. I do fully support plastic surgery for women whose breasts are so large they cause them physical trouble like back pain, or for people who are disfigured somehow. Alas, I doubt any of these women had truly "abnormal" features before going under the knife.
What if it turns out the winner used to be a man?...
I've thought of it a while, and the consensus is in; I don't give a shit. Every woman has insecurities and to imply that not one of us has ever entertained the concept of changing ourselves (whether through surgery or whatever) is ridiculous.
By your standards, a woman who has had braces should never show up to a "normal" beauty pageant. These competitions should be embraced by those who care about them and ignored by those who don't. Not my business to look down on people who have the balls to change themselves to their liking.
We change who we are to fit into society all the time. Why isn't it okay to change our features?
It's just so sad. I wished people would know of their true beauty. Don't succumb to society. Be who you are and be true to who you are.
well the winner looks almost criogenic, so, its thats the new beauty standar im happy im anormal with small boobs, its like a reminder of a dont very damn graphic >.<" i mean, she really looks like plastic xD
@Meowmeowkimmaee@xanga - LOL, now I would go to that pageant!
whatever...
i saw this on tele and its so stupid. like seriously.. china has had them for soooo long.. and honestly who cares?
uk held a beaut pageant for kids... for gods sakes.. they were kids! and some of them had plastic surgery already... one girl had it wen she was 4 or 5 and entered the competition wen she was 9... tell me that you agree thats wrong....
well, i'm going to make a post in a couple of days about plastic surgery... i'll try to persuade some people who left the comments above that we cannot get used to plastic surgery...
NEVER!!!
