  • Why Can't We Embrace Natural Beauty?

Now, this is from a female perspective, but I've never seen the beauty in girls who cover their whole face with various cover-ups and powders. I've never been one to wear any of the neutral skin covering products, I don't feel the need to hide behind chemically created cosmetics.

The definition of make-up, to me, is to amplify the beauty one already has. If you have amazing eyes, bring attention with bold liners. If you have full lips, add some bright gloss.

Foundations, face powders and concealer should be avoided as often they clog up your pores and only increase what you're trying to hide.

Why can't we embrace natural beauty? I'd rather see a person with flaws that looks real then a fake plastic doll. I hate the whole stigma that society implies that to be less than perfect is to need improvement. I like my flaws, thanks. I like my slight freckles and would rather not conform by covering them up.

Do you cover your face? Do you agree that make-up is meant to amplify, not hide?

i like using powder and foundation, just not so much that it actually looks like i'm using it. for one thing, many foundations have spf 15 or 20, protecting you from the sun. also, powder helps with oily skin, so you don't look oily. it makes me feel cleaner.

Try having cystic acne for a year, and then see how you still feel about hiding scars.

    @savingeagle@xanga - well said.

Some people are exceptionally insecure for good reasons. That doesn't mean they are intentionally slathering their face with cosmetics on purpose. Not everyone has flawless, pore-less skin.

I agree with you. Plus it's just more attractive if a person is pretty on their own than with the help of things like that. I've never even worn foundations, and I only usually wear mascara, or maaaybe eyeliner occasionally.

@savingeagle@xanga - I'm talking about the girls who get a zit and then freak out and cover thier face. It's one of those things I don't understand, I mean if you had a condition that made your skin less clear, then that understandable.

i only wear coverup when i seriously need it....like today

i like to play up my eyes

  • yvonneeeeeeeeeee@xanga

i use makeup every single day.

i use concealor, foundation, and powder.

i try to make it as natural as possible.

and i hate using those products because its just so bad for my skin, and im tired of using makeup, ive been doing this everyday .

i use them because i dont want to walk out of my place looking really bad with acne and scars all over my face. /:

i dont think my way of using makeup is really "amplifying"  more like "correcting"

  • Twirly_Red3@xanga

i actually love foundation--it really helps me even out my skin tone.  my skin is FAR from perfect, so i pretty much depend on foundation to make my skin look good.  it's not that i'm trying to look like i have a ton of makeup on; it's just that i need a little bit of help ;)

To some people, using make-up means being different person, but to others, it's just another form of expression.  And for some others, make-up hides the things of which they're self-conscious - scars from bad experiences, or marks that they feel ought not to be there.  I like make-up because using it is a form of art for me, as well as a tool to highlight natural beauty.  It all really depends on perspective.

  • MissPixieGlitter@xanga

i love the color of your eyes in that picture. i think people use make up to feel prettier and use their discretion regarding what needs to be beautified. some people prefer skin make up over colored make up because they think their skin needs the extra "help."

  • kaos_calle@xanga

i have extremely clear, pale skin, so i dont need foundation. and even if i needed it, i;d find it too much of a bother to use.  even find basics like lipgloss and mascara to be obsolete.

  • Erika_Steele@xanga

I used to wear makeup every single day but I don't any more.  I only wear it on occasion because it is fun.  I don't think everyone that enjoys wearing make up is doing because they don't like their natural beauty. Sometimes it is fun to wear green eyeshadow.

  • just_the_average_jane@xanga

I'm mildly amused that "embracing natural beauty" involves make up at all.

  • anonymous

Everyone has their reasons for using makeup.

I am very insecure with my skin. My skin is far from HORRIBLE, but for as long as I can remember, my uneven skin tone and red patches have haunted me.

I don't care about eye liner or lipstick or blush or anything else... Foundation is my only make up must.

  • HereInMyVoid@xanga

why is it ok to wear a bunch of eyeshadow and lip gloss but not foundation and powders? what the heck's the difference? how is that more "natural"?
i wear powder (that matches my skin tone, so you can't even see it on the skin) to cover up my blemishes. nothing wrong with that.
i'd ditch the eyeshadow if i had to, but not my powder.

  • breaking_expectations@xanga

@HereInMyVoid@xanga - Foundations cover the whole face. Hiding your natural face.

Eyeshadows and lipgloss bring attention to your features and aren't simply trying to conceal them.

  • zxzeebrastar@xanga

I use face powder, that's about it.

  • inthemillions@xanga

I use a bit, and it's really not noticeable. It just covers up a bit of my skin's redness, and makes my pores less visible. :)

  • sick_of_dreams@xanga

I didn't even wear foundation at my wedding. All I used was eye liner, eye hadow, and lip stick. Since I never wear anything people thought I had been professionally made up, but I hadn't.

  • Keeping__Karma@xanga

A great idea in theory, but I have genetic under-eye circles, so daily concealer is pretty much a necessity.  Especially when, on days when I'm in a rush, it's not done properly and people think I'm way older than I am.

  • pinkdagger@xanga

Because we as a society are superficial and shallow, and there is no money and no marketing or consumption of those who are not porcelain-skinned archetypes of perfection the media sells to us now.

@just_the_average_jane@xanga - Agreed. Natural beauty to me is entirely bare faced and still beautiful, not so much "beautiful, but beautiful-er with some eyeliner and eyeshadows(!!)".

OP, I think you need to clarify then that you're not talking about people who have to suffer with cystic acne, rosacea, psoriasis, eczema and other very potentially dramatic skin problems. They can be a severe hindrance on self esteem and are in no way equatable to freckles. So long as my blemishes are an issue to me, foundation will continue to be my friend and with the appearance of clearer skin, I already know my other facial features look better - more awake, more alert, without liners and shadows.

  • stardustbby@xanga

natural beauty is nice in all, but i always see girls just using their natural beauty, which is fine and all, but theres absolutely nothign wrong with wearing a lot of makeup.

i think makeup is an art and when a girl wears really unique looking makeup, shes expressing herself and i find that soooo much more attractive than natural beauty.

creativity comes from the brain, and though natural beauty is pretty, every single one of us has some kind of natural beauty. but not all of us are creative.

  • snapeful@xanga

i go natural but if i do put on makeup i'll need some primer for my eyes... so i use concealer and powder to keep on my eyeshadow stuff longer!

  • coolmonkey@xanga

Some girls have more flaws than others.  Why should they suffer their fate when the prettier ones have all the fun simply because they won the genetic lottery?  Make-up levels the playing field, and in many ways, democratizes beauty since anyone can do it.
