  • Harry Potter vs. Twilight: Book Series Showdown

Book Series Showdown: Harry Potter vs. Twilight

    lol, I didn't make this

On the one side: wizards. On the other side: vampires. Rowling vs. Meyer. Dan Rad vs. Rpattz.

Which series is better? I don't know, I've never read either (I must be the only person in America, right?) But maybe it's time I picked up one of these insanely popular books. So I need your help.

Tell me which series you prefer, and defend your answer! If a verdict is reached, I'll start reading the winning series.

    So....Harry Potter vs. Twilight....go!

I'm going to get a lot of crap for this, but I think Twilight is kind of cheesy.  Harry Potter on the other hand is amazing.  I think Harry Potter is so great because it's so imaginative.  Twilight is just a banality.  I read the first book, and once Bella finds out that Edward is a vampire, the book gets less entertaining and more cheesy.  Also JK Rowling has better writing style.

harry potter takes longer to finish and you actually get sad when you finish the series.
twilight is...it's like cinderella with a really dark twist. you decide. i like HP.

Harry Potter. It is well written. There is character development and foreshadowing. Each book gets just a little bit darker. This series is truly amazing and each adventure is so different from the previous book making it impossible to pick a favorite. I picked them up while I was in cosmetology school and read the entire series in a matter of 2 months with 40 hours a week of school and another 20 of work. Even if you do chose *shudder* twilight, I highly recommend you make time for HP regardless.

I promised a 12 year old I would read the Twilight series with her. It was a horrible mistake because she held me to it. I was between laughing and crying from how poorly the books were written. I'm not saying there weren't some okay ideas, but it was executed SO wrong. On top of that you could skip chapters at a time and not miss a thing. Half of it is like reading a cheap teen romance novel with the word "vampire" or "wolf" thrown in every few paragraphs.

    Choose wisely!

    Rowling for the win!!

    @kvdubs@xanga - Agreed!

Harry Potter is just more intense. When I read the books I could really imagine everything that was going on and I felt different emotions and such.

    Twilight just.. sucks.

I love both, so I can't choose one. Plus, they have nothing in common, so how is it even possible to compare the two??

  • chipshmunk@xanga

Harry Potter has a lesson written in it, a useful one, I don't know if Twilight does never found it. HP also is more enjoyable to read because J.K can actually write a decent story. Twilight is predictable and a little contradicting I think. "Oh, I can't have this so I might as well do this but then in the end of my story I'm gonna get what was impossible from some simple twist of the author's writing". That might not make sense to anyone other than me sorry. But for those of you that get it, yay! lol. In HP everyone has to actually struggle to get what they want. It is just a far better read.

  • SWEETxN0VEMBER@xanga

i so love harry hotter and the read was so enjoyable that i did not want to stop reading the books until i finished them all. i just finished reading twilight which took me a long time and i am on the second book; new moon which i have yet to start.

i say harry potter all the way!

  • stuipdthing@xanga

Twilight is badly written, badly thought out. The characters aren't fleshed out or very strong. The plot is repetitive and annoying

So by default Harry Potter is better
  • coffeeishappinessinacup@xanga

    lame!

Artemis Fowl could p'own both of those pathetic pieces of literature in the face twice with both of his hands tied behind his back!

    he's just that awesome!

    Twilight

is nothing more that SMeyer's wet dream. Seriously.

Harry Potter is well written and thought out. JK Rowling actually has a brain.
Although personally, I don't like either of the books that much.
  • lastlyfirst@xanga

I read both series and enjoyed both. However, at the end of HP I felt sad. I cried, I laughed, I talked about it for days. At the end of Twilight? "That's it?! That's how she chose to end the series? That sucked!" I was disappointed, needless to say.

  • bookmuncher@xanga

    Harry Potter all the way!!!

Not only is the series fun to read, I feel it is an empowering book. HP grows up throughout the series, but it is believable, though he is a wizard. There is also allusions to myths that makes the series believable. Though I haven't read the Twilight series, having the hero as a shiny stalker-ish vampire doesn't sound appealing. And if I really want a romance novel, I'll read a good one, not a teen version.

    harry potter is magical .

twilight meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh , the whole vampire thing got old after buffy .

+ all the fan girls just drive me NUTS .

  • iiinfinitesimal@xanga

the harry potter books > the twilight books.

both of the movies suck, but twilight's storyline is so dumb. and i read all four of the books too.
  • Sounds0fLaughter@xanga
Harry Potter will outlive our generation, I guarantee it. Twilight will die within a couple years. Don't listen to them about the ending of Harry Potter. It has some sad parts to it, but saying the ending is sad is basically the same as saying, "hey, we won WWII. I'm going to go cry my eyes out because the war is over and we're safe!" The overall ending to HP is badass.
Plus, Harry Potter has a real plot. Reading the books make it really obvious that Rowling put a lot of thought into what would happen and when. Twilight is nothing like that.
@coffeeishappinessinacup@xanga - Well, maybe the first two or three Fowl books.. But after that? No thanks.
  • TakingxOverxMe@xanga

    Harry Potter.

Aaaand it's been around longer.  Since the late 1990s.  Come on.

  • parkedxenergy@xanga

    harry potter.

there are more books, more movies, better actors in the movies, the acting isnt bad like twilight, harry potter is as much a mystery series as is a fantasy series. twilight is romance, there isnt even a fight scene at the end!!!
dont get me wrong, i love twilight too, but when there are things like this, harry potter always wins.
not to mention, its making way more money than the twilight series.
  • x__RainOnHerParade@xanga

Harry Potter is definitely better. It's more intricate; it's deeper; the plot is thicker; that was all very redundant, but Twilight is more about romance and fighting for love and overcoming obstacles keeping you from your love. Harry Potter has many more layers, many more stories going on.

  • tieduh@xanga

Why is lovelyish so obsessed with Twilight? Honestly now.

  • Twilight_Embers@xanga

I am not even going to start to get into this. Harry Potter beats Twilight out by such a landslide it's hardly a fair competition.

A better comparison, which is WORSE Twilight or Eragon.

  • HippocreneQueen@xanga

Neither. The HP series began to go downhill after a certain point and the Twilight series was bad to begin with...
