Plus-Sized Models Walk at Fashion Week, Angry People Quit
"plus" sized model at the Mark Fast show
For his London show in Fashion Week this year, designer Mark Fast wanted to send so-called "plus size" models down the runway in his creations; i.e., models sizes 12-14.
Two of his staff quit in anger.
Fast's creative director told the Daily Mail that 'the decision to use fuller girls is something we have been talking about. There's an idea that only thin and slender women are able to wear Mark's dresses and he wanted to combat that. We wanted women to know they didn't have to be a size zero to wear a Mark Fast dress - curvier women can look even better in them.'
And so, going on without the disgruntled staff members, the models used in the show were Hayley Morley, 21, a size 12, Laura Catterall, 20, a size 14 and Gwyneth Harrison, 25, a size 12-14. (Ed. Note: I'm assuming these are UK sizes, which would translate into sizes 8, 10, and 8-10 in America, respectively).
Hayley Morley leads the finale walk; behind her are the traditional waifish models
What do you think about Fast's decision? Were the staffers wrong to quit? Is it refreshing to see a variety of body types on the runway?

i thought they looked reallyyy good.
and i couldn't even tell they were "plus sized"
Hayley's gorgeous.
The problem is morbid obesity, not WNBA players.
Wow, that's "plus-sized"?
What is this world coming to?
You have to be stick thin, with your fucking rip cage coming unglued to be consitered skinny, pretty?
These girls look great, healthy.
It's a lot better than being gray skinned with a tired face and fugly hair.
i think it's a good idea to mix the traditional thin models and 'plus' sized models as well. shows that the clothes have versatility
omg, she makes those waifish models behind her look like crap.
I'm glad SOMEBODY finally decided to do so. and screw those staffers who quit. get a grip on reality, seriously.
i think it's refreshing to see good looking plus-sized models, and those staff that quit are morons! the point is to show the clothes in a good light and make people want to purchase them, which i think the plus-sized models did nicely. go mark!
i'm glad you put "plus" in quotes because in that case I'm definitely a plus and those girls aren't very big.
To continue from my earlier comment here (FreeeVerse@xanga), Morley's stats are 5ft9in, 34D bust, and 29in waist, according to this news article.
SHE'S NOT PLUS-SIZED AT ALL.
They quit? How stupid. Those women are gorgeous! The fashion world really upsets me sometimes. They should be accepting of more than one body type. Fashion should not only be for the super thin.
I LOVE curves! So Hot!
aaahhh! they look so fabulous!
are these the size 12-14's? what. they don't look that size. but anyway, its kind of ruining the aura of high fashion if its not the glamorous skinny look. not to be shallow in anyway... :T
They look HOT. Major props to him!
That was stupid to quit. These women look amazing.
that is not plus sized in the slightest.
curves define beauty. being stick thin does not.
i believe curves make you beautiful.
@FreeeVerse@xanga - My idea of plus sized was definitely something bigger than that @_@
I wouldn't consider them "plus size." But they sure look great. And it's a great message to send to the audience that you don't have to be a size zero. The staffers are dumb asses.
@boredb3rry@xanga - Precisely! LOL. People's perceptions of "plus-sized" are so warped these days.
Miss Morley is gorgeous, plus sized or not.
The staff may think what they want. Who are we to say that they were wrong to quit though?
They're hardly plus-sized...but they do look great! It's nice to see someone with a normal body on the runway. She's still slender (she's not that much bigger than me, and I'm too skinny), but she looks natural.
I wish all designers used "plus" sized models
i really hope that women like hayley morley can start changing the standards of modeling!
i think that models should be of any size or shape; short, tall, skinny, plus-sized, average--why on earth does the fashion world have to put so many restrictions on how a model HAS TO look? if a girl has the talent and the beauty, i say she should have a shot at modeling.
LMAO ppl quit? that's hilarious, what dunderheads :PÂ
and those girls are really pretty!Â
I wonder if there's more to the story about the staff quitting, it seems like a silly thing to quit over, but I think the fuller figured models look beautiful. They should definitely use normal-sized women as models more often instead of stick-girls.
