10 Worst 80's Fashion Trends That Keep Coming Back! (Pt. 1/2)
Oh, how we love our 80’s! It is an era that is not only remembered for excess but for eccentricity. It is the last decade where people weren’t afraid to have a bold personal style. Although with the good, there comes the bad.In no particular order, here are the 10 worst 80s fashion trends that keep coming back (in my opinion, of course):
1: Acid Wash Jeans. (above). Why? No one may ever know. It was pretty clear to some twenty years ago what a horrible fashion statement this was, yet now we see today’s fashionistas dressing in them. It is essentially blotted bleach all over your jeans. Why is that cool to wear? Rihanna, Victoria Beckham, Kate Bosworth… put them away.
2: Crimped Hair. Every once in awhile a celeb will crimp her hair for whatever reason. Christina Aguilera had that awful poodle afro in the 90s for an award show. And apparently she is back at again! It’s unhealthy and damages your hair severely. Avoid at all costs- unless there is a themed 80s party.
3: Neon, in any form. Wendy Williams just wore a blinding green dress to the Daytime Emmy Awards that made me shake my head. Neon colored jeans is not flattering on any figure! Joe Jonas keeps wearing V-neck neon T-shirts that make me scream. Yes, a bolder color can be a great accent but let’s keep the highlighters to our textbooks please.
4: Leg Warmers. What were we thinking? This has come back to taken many life forms. First, it was just a literal translation which I guess didn’t sit well with consumers (go us!) to then scrunching the sock over the jean and over the shoe. For the fall it was a lot of long, thick socks that peaked out of the boot top. Oh yes, let’s have sock cleavage now. Socks, long or short, should always be an item worn for practicality not fashion.
5: Spandex. I know with the whole “yoga” craze that people wear the lounge pants. However, I am more opposed to the leggings—especially Capri leggings. They are only a trend that skinny, long-legged women can wear which is not the majority of the population. I see so many females trying to wear this trend and I just want to tell them they can’t! Don’t do it!
That is part 1 of 2, folks. What do you make of these trends reappearing? What do you think should be on the list?

wow... I only agree on two things... crimped hair and spandex.
i am so glad leg warmers are back in. and same with neon and some acid wash.
Socks and legwarmers are two different things completely. Are you saying that thigh-highs aren't fashion accessories? I can guarantee you they are hardly ever worn for practicallity.
As for the rest of these, yeah. I think they shouldn't ever make a come back.
oh please. my gag reflex is spiking.
1: Needs to die! I hate acid wash jeans
2: This isnt too bad as long as you dont try to emulate a lion...
3: Neon...eh, I'm 50/50. If you dress in all one bright color or try to look like a lollipop, then no. If you wore a dark color all over & had a pop of color in your shoes, coat or purse, then it might work out.
4: Isnt bad. Leg warmers are making a comeback in a good way!
5: Not everyone can pull off spandex but I'm not going to hate on it.
1. ewww, just...why?!
2. crimped hair looks soooo stupid and just frizzy. do something nice with your hair instead.
3. neon can be nice, in small doses. nothing like what the two girls above are wearing. =/
4. they can be really cute, you just have to know how to wear them right.
5. spandex is for wearing under your shorts when you work out in the cold, not for every day wear. =/
I love #5. the rest are no-no.
legwarmers only work with shorts or skinny jeans.
DEFINITELY NOT OVER BOOTCUT JEANS. (cough. i have a friend who did this. sighh it's okay, i still love you.)
but long scrunched socks are okay. i don't know why i make such a huge distinction between the two.
lol tbh i love the leg warmers ^^ !
hey theres nothing wrong with legwarmers if they are worn right!!
I don't see anything wrong with wearing spandex. Especially if it's paired with a tunic shirt of some sort.
I love leg warmers absolutely.
Acid washed jeans are my favorite too, but I agree those people have taken it too far.
I hate the color neon too but Victoria Beckham's neon dress looks nice. Poshly always.
I love legwarmers, especially since I live in the northeast and the weather here gets extremely cold. But I disagree...leg warmers can be fashion accessories when worn correctly!
I love leg warmers and neon = )
but acid wash jeans and crimped hair are absolutely vomit inducing!
I think if you can't pull certain things off, you're not styling it right. Love leg warmers, acid wash jeans and a plain neon shirt. You gotta make it work, ladies!
@walden_thoreau@xanga - That's probably why it says part 1 / 2 :)
I agree, i hate all of these trends. well, the neon is okay on certain people--my best friend pulls neon off really well.
acid wash is ugly and unflattering. crimped hair just looks weird. neon is okay, just not for an entire outfit. legwarmers are dumb as hell, and no one looks good in them. spandex is only okay for biking.
i am not a fan of any of those.
xo
I'm ok with spandex and leg warmers, mainly because I'm from the Pacific Northwest, where fashion is more for practical uses than aesthetic. (Hey, do what you gotta do! If something is unattractive, but practical, we wear it until it becomes normal and accepted.) Spandex leggings are comfortable, but I would definitely never wear them like the ones in the picture... More just capri style, with a long shirt that covers my ass.
I agree with you on all the others, but I really like legwarmers... and socks can definitely be fashionable in addition to being practical.
i like all of them.
esp acid washed jeans, neon, and leg warmers.
its cute.
1, 2, and 3 need to go!
Gross.
I love neon! :)
these are all just... no. however, i have seen cases where each can be cute. these bitches are going too far w it though! lol
leg warmers are awesome if you are a dancer.
