I'm Known for My Mole
So I have this mole right in the middle of my neck. I've never seen anything wrong with it, in fact, I never really cared about it. But recently, a lot of my college classmates have been making my mole their object of, let's call it "affection." (lol)
Sometimes they'd give comments about it being a "target" or they'd tell me about how I have dirt on my neck and laugh at me when I wiped it only to find out they were referring to my mole.
Now, I'm an easy going kind of girl and i see the humor in all of this and despite all the rampant teasing, removing my mole would never be an option for me.
However, I do know this one girl who we call "Moley" now who used to have a mole right above her lip and everyone teased her about it. She got teased about it so much that she actually went under the knife to have it removed.
Now, I did my research and moles are basically growths on the skin. They happen when cells in the skin, called melanocytes, grow in a cluster with tissue surrounding them. Moles are very common. Most people have between 10 and 40 moles. A person may develop new moles from time to time, usually until about age 40.
What do you think about moles? Would you have a mole removed for purely cosmetic purposes [is there any OTHER reason]? And if you have, why?

nah, I don't have any reason to remove my mole. 'tis natural.
I don't mind them on the rest of my body, or if they're small, but I had one right under one nostril and one on the bridge of my nose, right in the center between my eyes. By the time I was 10, they were almost half a centimeter big, and my parents thought I would get teased way too much, so they took me to Taiwan to get them removed.
I don't regret it because I think they would have become huge...and I like my face without them. =)
I have a mole right on the end of my nose, It makes me 'me'
My brother had a very big mole on his wrist,(with hairs on it...). He was ashamed of it, and the dermatologist told him that one day he could get rid of it (risk of skin cancer with his own mole... she is around 5 cm), but for the moment, he has accepted it.
I had a frien who had one so big on the eyebrow, that she prefers to have a scar, more than her mole... and I know many person that have moles too, even on the face, and love it, or don't think of it.
In fact, yours can look like an anchor dermal, and I think it is pretty to have a mole (or a dermal) in the middle of the neck !
If i had a really big one in a bad area, I'd get it removed. Luckily, I only have very few and they're really small.
My fiance actually used to have moles on his face and he got them removed because when he started shaving he didn't want to cut them etc. So there are other reasons.haha. i'm known for the mole on my upperlip.
austin power..
MOLEY MOLEY MOLEEY MOLE MOLE MOLE MOLE MOLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEYAYAYYAAYY!!
ahhaah. i have little ones. i think they're cute
My twin brother has a small mole on his chin. It's one of the things we used to tell people that they could use to differentiate between my twin and I. (It also helps with toddler pictures of Robert and I.)
Just checked the wedding pictures (he got married two and a half weeks ago.) It's still there.
my daughter has a "beauty mark" right above her lip (similar to that of cindy crawford) and she thought it was cool until she started 2nd grade and all the kids began making fun of it. she's now a sophmore in HS and absolutely hates it! she's been trying to convince me to take her to get it removed and i've been debating on whether or not actually let her go thru with it.
darn kids (or adults at any age) can be so cruel...
Moles are sexy.
I had a mole on my nose removed by a plastic surgeon but it was super gross looking. It was flesh colored and it looked like a witch wart. o_o
but other than that mole pretty much all moles I tihnk are HOT
I have 2 on my face that I plan on getting removed next year.
I've always hated them. I would rather have a scar.
I have a mole on the left side of my chin and I would never consider getting it removed unless it was hazardous to my health. I think it is cute and most times people I have known for a while don't even realize I have it.
I have small ones all over. I don't mind them at all, people don't even really notice. Just part of how I look. :)
I don't have any, but I think little ones like yours are cute!
If it was huge or posed a risk for cancer I would consider having it removed.
i have a mole at the top of my left breast, so it's visible when i'm wearing anything that's not a t-shirt. i've been told it's sexy-it's my favorite mole. haha.
i do plan to have one on my back removed, but that's because my bra rubs it and it needs to not be there...
I've grown quite sick of all of my moles. I know it's quite shallow but I view them as personal flaws because I have so many of them. I don't particularly care about moles on other people but damn do I hate mine. I don't think I would ever get them removed though because it's one of those things I should just learn to live with.
It's funny actually, growing up I really wanted freckles because everyone I knew had them. Strange how one person could want one sort of mark and detest the ones she has.
i love darker moles, i have one on my neck, one on my leg, and one by the corner of my eye, there all flatering though, like they're not raised too much.
i have a mole in the center of my forehead so i kind of look like a hindu. i used to get teased about it but honestly it doesn't stick out to me one bit so i'm not concerned with it! my dermatologist brought up removing it and i told her i didn't want anyone to touch it. it's a sign of beauty and should be embraced.
Eh, I've never really thought about it before. I mean a mole is a mole. I have one on my left shoulder right in the center. Other then that I have a really tiny one of the inside of my right wrist, right ribcage, and right ankle...they are hardly visible though, nothing eye catching.
Everybody has moles, why spend so much money getting them removed. However, I understand if that mole happens to be on your face and is of some discomfort. Although, I've known slash seen many people with moles on their face and they look really pretty! It sets them apart and makes them unique looking, it a good way. I really like above the lip and a little to the side moles.
I don't have a mole (or a birthmark 3:<). My brother has one on his armpit, though. Sometimes my sister and I will be like, "Hey, you have a mole there, I completely forgot," and we'll giggle, but never make fun of him for it. .__. that's just stupid.
I have one on my right collar bone. It's adorable :) I never took notice of it until one day my friend was grossed out by it. At that time I was very confused why she would be. I went through a period where I wanted to get it removed, but I've had so many compliments of my "beauty mark" (as my mom calls it) that I think I'll keep it :)
I have 3 on my face, that i actually really like because it makes me look different. I have the one between my lip and nose on the left side, one on my cheek and one just above my chin to the right. I would never get them removed.
I also have one on my boob, which I would concider getting removed because I think it looks odd. And it protrududes more than regular mole, so Im always afraid it'll get caught on my bra, or the wire will pop out and scratch it something haha. How embarrasing.
I think as long as they aren't potentially cancerous, then there's nothing wrong with moles. Call them beauty marks if it makes you feel better, lol! I actually really like mine.
No way.
I think they're cute :3. I don't have one though.
@just_the_average_jane@xanga - I agree.
