For a beauty writer, I'm unusually reluctant to go for beauty treatments, not least because they take far too long and about half way through I am virtually climbing off the table desperate to go home. And, I never want to be one of those people who needs someone else to pluck their eyebrows. So, I only ended up agreeing to lash extensions because the
Flutter girls do a home service where they just turn up with a table and a lash kit. Kathryn, who owns Flutter (who is 24, running a successful business that she kept going while she studied for a degree at university, and has just been offered rooms at Harrods' Urban Retreat - impressive, no?) arrived yesterday to apply the eyelash extensions.
Be under no illusions, this is a
long process - around about 2 hours of lying completely still, unable to see with someone working in minute detail around the eye area. In fact, I couldn't stay the course and admitted defeat at around an hour and half. My friend, Shereen, who also had hers done, did stick with it and ended up with more lashes than my 50.
However, despite my inability to lie still, I can't recommend this treatment highly enough. The lashes are unbelievable; they look as if I've been blessed with unnaturally natural long, thick black lashes - there's no falseness about the look at all and it is quite simply stunning.
Each synthetic lash is painstakingly applied to your own lashes individually; the lashes have length and curl no mascara can replicate despite what the ads might say. And, there's a level of precision and skill involved in application that I now feel deserves the utmost respect - Kathryn seems to have the patience of a saint. It's difficult to recommend one person over any others, when I haven't actually tried any others, but what I can say is that I've seen lash extensions done badly and done quite well, but I haven't seen them look exceptional except on the eyes of the person who recommended Kathryn in the first place!
This is the closest I'll ever get to looking like Cheryl Cole so that on it's own makes me happy, and the photos above are absolutely representational of my own eyes. The Flutter eyelash artists will go to any M25 location (not quite stretching into North London yet) and the cost for the initial set is around £180, with £80 fill ins required every 3-4 weeks to maintain the look. It's not low maintenance, or budget friendly (although you don't need to use mascara), but it is a luxury that is transformational, and I suspect, highly addictive....I'm not sure I can just let these babies go.
Would you try eyelash extensions?

No thanks. I already have long eyelashes as it is Lol.
NO, I have nice eyelashes that are long enough, curl and of a king color . I'm not a fan of mascara (hardly never wear mascara), so no need. But the result look good on you. Isn't it a bit annoying to have an "always make up" look?
i would!
i use false eyelashes, hate mascara
If I were rich, I would in a heartbeat!
I have eyelashes that are really really straight and point down. It sucks.
i had a lash extension done once but i had an allergic reaction to the glue. i ripped it off within 3 hours after the completion of application, and had a credit to my file at the spa i did it at (all $180CDN). i never went for another treatment, but i had several massages :)
I mean, that definitely would be an amazing procedure to be done but:
1. i just can't sit still for more than five minutes- not exaggerating 2. I wouldn't want to keep spending money over and over for fill-ins because I know that I would probably love them and get addicted ahaha and 3. I'm perfectly fine with using my lash curler and mascara to get bigger lashes, especially since I have pretty decent sized ones already :PYES.
is she german by any chance? XD i only ask this because i'm german and my lashes are naturally full with volume :D
yes those are awesome!
i did it for about 6 months. they looked good but i hated how i had to be careful with them. for example if you rub your eyes or wash your face you need to be very careful. i also didn't like how they looked aound the third week when you needed to get refills. i think it you refilled more often they would look better but who can afford that?
sounds good, but i have pretty decent eyelashed already, if i didnt i would go for it.
Ha, I have almost invisable lashes.
But I'll stick with false lashes. Two hours is way to long for me to sit still.
Am I the only one who noticed that the two eyes at the top have differences other that the lashes? (top picture's eyebrow is also darker and the eye is greener along with the white being whiter and without the red lines)
I think I'll be sticking to my mascara (: Its way cheaper and looks just as good.
I'd like them but I'm a guy...that's probably why I want them - to make girls jealous.
@ahsolovley@xanga - I think she coloured in her eyebrows and the lighting might be different, giving her eyes a different pigment? :S
I'm just saying, maybe it's her xD
@Lil_Dude433@xanga - She said the eye resembles her or something of the sort. The picture probably came from the website of who ever does the extentions and I would dare to say the "after" has probably been edited to make the eye more attractive. Just a guess. lol
I would definitely get lash extensions - if I had the cash! Going to stick to good ol' mascara through university, I'm afraid. They look gorgeous though!
@ahsolovley@xanga - Pretty sure it's the same person, just with a little more makeup on. The eyebrow shape is the same, just the top one is coloured in.
@muses_muse@xanga - It may be... It looks edited though. And if you look the darker one is also a bit fuller.
@Lil_Dude433@xanga - " the photos above are absolutely representational of my own eyes " So it did indeed, probably come from the website. Oh well though (: lol
@ahsolovley@xanga - Well then maybe it's a different person's eyes, not the writer herself maybe :P
But the probability of it is; they're the same eyes from the same person.
nah i like my lashes..
No, i'm okay =)
I've had lash extensions and loved it! However it is an expensive upkeep!
sounds interesting, but i already have long eyelashes...however, they're not all that THICK.
lol wow. i'm not from london. but i dont think i'd be wasting that kind of money for that. I'll stick with my mascara
i've never worn false eyelashes and i have some of the most messed up eyelashes than anyone ive ever known. lol ppl always make fun of me for it. r they easy to use?!? i'm scared i might screw it/myself up.
