Check Out My DIY High-Waisted Skirt!
In my attempt to be a recessionista and as an attempt to being more unique, I bought some fabric from the local fabric store to make my own skirt (inspired by the mid-waisted floral skirts, such as the ones from Forever 21 [above]).
1. Forever 21 skirt, $14.80 plus tax
2. My skirt, $2 for half a meter of fabric and $1.60 for the elastic plus tax.
(all in Canadian $)I really like how it turned out but I have a dilemma. I put this skirt on with a purple top:
The only problem is that I feel that it is too many flowers, so I didn't end up wearing my new skirt today.
What do you think? Is it an okay match, or should I got for a more simple top? And as a side question, would you rather spend more money on your clothes, or spend a few dollars and some time to make your own?

Aw, I think it's cute :]
That's really really cute! Good job!
A more simple top, yes, but it's a very cute skirt! I've been wanting to make a skirt like this except with tulle underneath so that it poofs out like a ballerina skirt. =)
I think the skirt is cute good job! But I think too many flowerss. Maybe pair it up with a simple tank top (maybe black color?).
Very cute! You are quite the designer. I think the combination looks fine.
Things don't have to match perfectly. As long as the prints are small, and the items go together, you're fine.
It's not my personal taste, but I don't find those two items paired together to be horrible.
I like sewing too ! It's a godd way to save money and have unique pieces.
Your skirt is not bad !
a simpler top in a deeper purple (like plum), black, chocolate brown... you need some darker colors to offset the business of the skirt, i think. the bright purple top isn't doing your skirt justice at all!
I agree with @tealeafs@xanga! You did a great job with the skirt :)
your skirt is amazing. good work! i'm jealous :)
to answer your question, a simple top would definitely complement it better. go for that
I would wear a form fitting tshirt with the skirt to balance it out. But yes, very cute!! I need to learn how to sew..... I would save so much money on the kids!!
it's cute!
great job, kudos to you! looks adorable =)
i agree with those who said to wear a simpler top - keep the attention on the skirt !
omg it's really cuteeeeeee
Too busy for my taste. Wear a solid top.
cute skirt! great job!
It looks cute on you... but I'd probably wear a solid colored tshirt instead of floral details.
A plain, block top would be lovely with that skirt. You did a great job on it!
its cute, but I'll like it more if is bigger floral prints
@Meowmeowkimmaee@xanga - i agree with her.
but good job with the skirt! =) i wish i could sew!
simple top, i think the polka dots throw it off. and i liketo make my own too sometimes.
simpler/solidsh top would look super cute w/ that adorable skirt! :) enjoy it!
Omg, girl, just wear it with a solid colored, tight, unpatterned t-shirt. It'll make you look less busy, you know. BUT OMFG GORGEOUS SKIRT. I wish I could sew. *Tear
