Tan vs. Pale
I have lately noticed myself having this conversation all too often with my friends-- would I rather be pale or tan? Even though my "pale" is more of a light/yellowy brown, I much prefer it over being super dark.
Most of my friends seem to have the opposite view though. Some have even said that they were jealous of my tan and that they wish that they could have a such a dark tan/a tan year-round. And they do so much to get one, from tanning for hours by a pool to spray-on. They tell me that I am lucky for being born with a natural brown color, and that I should be happy with being so dark, but honestly, I try my hardest to avoid getting that way.
I've even started using lemon juice on my face and neck in an attempt to get rid of my current dark tone ("the acids in the lemon break down the partially dead skin in the tan you have , allowing you to reveal your usual , lighter naturally colored skin") along with using SPF 70 sunscreen and trying to stay out of the sun as much as possible. To me, having a lighter skin tone (not that it doesn't work for some people; I'm just not a fan of it on me) seems so much more appealing to me. Which do you prefer?

I'm pale and love it. :) My freckles connect enough for a "tan" for me. ;)
Then again I have freckles, red hair, and blue eyes. Redheads look weird if they're too tan.I love pale skin - I wish mine was paler (and I'm quite white.) Maybe I should try lemon juice...
I'm pale toooooo. I stay dark for a long time after going to the beach :(
Uhhm. I am really, really pale in real life. And I've never seen myself REALLY tan before, but I think I would go for the tan look instead if I had a choice. However, I'll just deal with my normal pale self because I'm scared of getting skin cancer. :/
I prefer pale skin, creamy pale though. I know it's natural and there's nothing you can do about it but I dislike the pale skin with prickles of red color pigment. I know a girl with this
skin disease and it seems that natural red heads have this skin type as well.
I wish I was a little darker. I used to be really tan when I was little and I seem to have paled over my teenage years.
It depends on the person. Some people just can't pull off the tan look and some people just can't pull off the white look.

. . . you mean the "skin disease" of freckles??I am VERY pale. I was with my friends today, and I'm like paper white compared to them... My hair is red though... I just burn, cos i don't tan.
Pale or tan doesn't matter to me happy, healty and in love with me and me her is all I care about.
I love pale skin like Rachel McAdams. I'm light skinned but I'm not pale. My mediterranean roots make my skin slightly darker and with a yellowish tone so I've never been able to keep the paleness, haha. I wish I could though, but I tend to look sickly if I'm too pale.
@PerkyPunk8064@xanga - My thoughts exactly... heh. (Xanga feels smaller when I run into people I know... I like this.)
@PerkyPunk8064@xanga - Same here! I've got natural red-brown hair, light blue eyes, translucent skin, and a million freckles. I'd look ridiculous tan!
I like being tan.
I mean sunkissed tan not sun-making out tan
:33
I live in Honolulu and it's funny to see how different people prefer different looks. The Japanese here are constantly carrying parasols and umbrellas in the sun and wearing full sleeves to avoid getting dark, while Caucasian girls are sweating it out in tank tops and shorts, if not spending their free time tanning by the beach. The history behind this phenomena is that in the old days, people that were lower class workers had to spend day time hours outside working in the fields and therefore had darker skin, while upper class socialites could stay inside and out of the sun. In modern times, it's switched. People who are pale are workers stuck inside a cubicle all day long, while people that are dark are the ones that can afford to be lazy and tan. Either way, all skin colors are beautiful and I think it's best to just embrace your natural look. Don't put lemon juice on your skin, that's ridiculous and it's just going to dry your skin out and make it taut. If you stick with your natural skin color, that's what will most complement your eye color and your hair color than if you try to change it.
I think pale is nice, as long as it's not too pale.
@Passionflwr86@xanga - haha I know right! =p
I'm Indian...so I've got brown skin. Lighter than many other brown kids but still tan. I also tan a lot in the summer, unfortunately. I wish I had pale or lighter skin. I've done the whole putting lemon juice on my skin as well. I just can't seem to stick to it after a while. So yes, my preference is pale skin.
Fair-skinned is pretty. So is tan, but not too tan. My legs are paler than the rest of me, and I wish they'd catch up with the rest of my body haha
as long as it's natural on the person. I hate it when you can tell a girl obviously uses a spray-on. and some girls do look prettier paler.
@MangoWOW@xanga- pretty much what you said haha.
I'm pale and I love it. I love feeling retro and like a 40's pin-up girl :]
i like myself better when im tanned. but im the same as you when im pale, like weirdly brown/yellow color but sometimes its like really white? idk my skins weird
Pale!! No doubt. And I do a pretty well job of keeping myself that way.
i am extremely pale to the moment where my own grandmother told me i should go tanning. but i really don't like to be out in the sun because i don't even know if i can tan, i always burn. plus i love my pale/white-yness =)
pale skin. so was it successful when you used the lemon juice? how do i use it? :)
i really like being tan. i'm not a tanorexic, but i prefer it to being pale. that's just for me though, some people have gorgeous pale skin.
