  • Is Laser Hair Removal Worth It?

Should I Get Laser Hair Removal?

I've been debating whether I should get laser hair removal done. I want the simple spots done, like lip and underarms. It's fairly expensive (more than $100 a session), but people tell me it's not safe and that I should just wait it out until I'm older and my body is fully developed. I'm wondering how many sessions I'd need.

What about you guys, would you do it? Is there anything stopping you? And if not, what's your reason?

It's not worth it. I'm almost never in shorts or a swimsuit so I have no need to shave. ;D

i've always wanna get hair removal done, maybe i m waiting for the techology to get more mature (at least safer i guess) and of course - wait till i m done school and get some $$ first ~ i also wonder how many sessions do i need tho - hairy asian, haha

I pluck, epilate, and shave different areas. Easier, cheaper, less risky, and to me, less painful since I'm always the one in control.

i've gotten my upper lip done, and i'm getting my underarms done as well. its totally worth the expensive cost. seriously. you just need 4 sessions, no matter where on your body it is you want the procedure done, the only thing that is different depending on the body part, is how long you wait in between. for upper lip its 2 weeks in between sessions, and underarms i believe its 4 weeks. it really doesn't hurt that much, it just feels very hot for about a millisecond.

    hope this helps you decide!

i plan to do it when i'm older. but i'm afraid of the pain

  • soniiuh@xanga

I want to in the future... but maybe I'll change my mind by then lol.

I want to do this, but its def expensive. I think the number of sessions you need varies by person. Also, if you have light colored hair, this won't be as effective as it will be for a person with dark hair and light skin since the laser targets the pigment in the hair to get rid of it.

@snappedx@xanga - So you have to get the laser hair removal treatments done multiple times? I thought that they just zapped you once and then you would never grow hair again. Hm.

One of my sister's friends gets laser hair removal done, and since she travels quite a bit annually (she just came back from a summer trip from Greece), laser hair removal is ideal for her cos of the clothes she wears on her trips.
I think it depends on how old you are, especially if your body hasn't been fully developed yet. There are other alternatives to this too, like threading for your upper lip which does the trick in about 5 minutes, and waxing for the rest of your body with DIY kits.

It's painful and it's not worth the money and pain.

  • stardust_xxx@xanga

actually my best guy friend suggested it to me, but I didn't know there
were risk involved with it or that age mattered? I probably would never pay though,
considering I already pay too much for hair.

The only thing stopping me is the pain. I can't tolerate it. The technician that I got one time told me it felt like a rubber band snapping against your skin, but I thought it felt alot like accidently burning yourself with a curling iron! Ouch!

  • Deliver_Me_123@xanga

I would sooo do that if I had the money,.. maybe next year. the only other thing holding me back is that it may potentially burn darker skin folks cuz it just attacks the pigment.  I got caramel/pecan colored skin and black hair but I think they consider anything not whitish dark skinned sooooo,.. i dunno. I dont want to get ugly burns.. hopefully the technology gets better. :)

  • MissPixieGlitter@xanga

how old are you? i suppose you should wait if you're not fully developed.

  • FLUFFYMOM4@xanga

i has it done about 6 times and it hurt. it felt like someone snapping a rubber band on my skin.and you also can't have tan skin, for some reason people with darker skin can't get it done because the laser will  burn your skin, i know this because i was tanning during one of the session and it burnt me everytime he lasered. it's been about 5 yrs since i had it done and some of the hair is returning. i'll do it again though because it's worth not having to shave and worry about it.

    It's NOT wasted money!!

lol well it worked really well on my bf. he had a bears he wante dto get rid off and tryed that out. he has had 3 sesions, so it's almost gone only a few stray hairs left. But it's not dangurus, it will only work on dark hairs and it's not really laser, it's only light. It stings a lot he says and afterwards you will be a bit red. also a girl at work did it on her bekiniline and she says that she got a tiny wound there for a week after that but that was due to her panties cafing against the sore skin. I assume she could have avoided that by wearing granny pantys! lol

as soon as I get the cach I will be doing it under my arms and bikini line.. the legs are too wide of an aria so it will cost a lot to do them... so I'll just wait tith the legs I think.. lol

  • XoAsianBabioX@xanga

i want to do it sooooo bad. i can't drop that much money on it, though.

  • ChildOfTheStorm@xanga

I had it done on my upper lip...seriously one of the best things I've ever done. Its so nice to not have "mantain" the area...

In general, laser does work best with the combination of light skin and dark, coarse hair cause it targets the dark pigmentation of the hair.

  • krispylicious@xanga

I want to have it done. I have light skin and really dark thick hair deeply rooted in there. Shaving still doesn't remove how rooted it looks.

  • GieGieHeart@xanga

Once I get enough $$$, I will get it done for sure :)

  • just__one__me@xanga

I have dark hair and pale skin and I want to do this so badly. The only thing that is stopping me is the cost. If I could get it done for free I'd do it in an instant.

I wasn't aware that there was any pain involved, but if it's less than waxing I suppose I could handle it.

  • just__one__me@xanga

@krispylicious@xanga - Ugg, I have that same problem. Even immediately after I shave it looks like I have tiny black dots all over my legs. Self-waxing is just too difficult to do, in my opinion. I've tried an epilator, but I can only handle it when I'm on pain medications.

  • emilyd_foster@xanga

I've had electrolysis done before and I don't think that it's really worth the money, I have wanted to try laser hair removal though.  You might not be able to do your upper lip though because you have to have a lighter skin tone and dark hair where you want it lasered.  Laser hair removal is probably the best bet as long as you don't mind the cost and you're the right skin tone/hair the right hair color.

  • MangoWOW@xanga

I would love to get hair removal done on my underarms.
I also want to get them bleached if it's possible since the skin is darker there for me (I looked it up and apparently it's normal, some people just have darker skin on their armpits. But because of it I hate raising my arms around people).

If I had the money I would.
