  • Would You Go to an All-Girls School?

I go to public school where everything is obviously co-ed. I have classes with boys, PE with boys, and extracurrics with boys.

A lot of people, though, go to gender-segregated schools. Lots of Catholic schools are for girls or guys only, and many private schools follow suit.

Here are the Pro's of going to an all-girls school:

    • Less distraction from boys (lol)
    • Gym/locker rooms are easier to manage (for changing)
    • No gender politics in classroom

    But also, the Cons:

    • No boys around (duh)
    • Missing out on traditional school experience
    • Dating is more difficult

Do you go to an all-girls school? Would you? What are the pros and cons of each?

NO D: I don't date, buttttt a lot of boys I know are just cool people to hang out with, and I don't get a long with too many girls.

i go to a public school and I would be okay to go to an all-girls.. but i need them boys!!

  • snapeful@xanga

maybe. it's the education that's important. if i sent kids there, i'd want to make sure they got to interact with members of the opposite gender too, with sports, church, or etc.

I went to an all girl's school. The cons would be - there's lots of bitchy girls. :P  and it's hard to socialise with guys.

Pros - You dont have to impress guys! :D
    - I guess studying would be better because there's no distraction.

an addition to con: may turn lesbian.

i don't mind going to an all-girls school.

  • s_h_a_sha@xanga

lol i was in an all-girl public school...

well i am still single but all girls school was fun! coz lol we have lives after school!
  • cokeaddict@xanga

been there. done that.  have the uniform to prove it.

but seriously... it wasn't bad at all.  high school was the best time of my life.    how many people can say *that*?

  • Eyes_Herself@xanga

i wouldn't mind.... as long as there was an all-boys school campus in a nearby town :) :)

  • sarahhafuth@xanga

@xueyo@xanga - lol i'm not sure being a lesbian is a con, people may take that to offence.

i personally wouldn't mind, probably keep me more focused since there'd be no one to look at :(
maybe i'd finally get those 98s i've been aiming for! haha

i do actually go to an all-girl highschool right now
    and i actually like it
pros-you can come in looking like a bum and no one will care
-you don't have to worry about impressing guys
          -easier to focus on school
-stuff that is embarrassing like getting your period and changing in the lockerroom isn't as big       -sisterhood like atmoshpere
    of a deal
-you can meet new guys through new girls you become friends with
    cons-no boys =(
           -the occasional drama

btw you don't really miss out on a lot of "traditional" stuff we have dances, prom, and most all girls schools have a brother school

  • xueyo@xanga

@sarahhafuth@xanga - opps i didn't mean to offend anyone but i'm just saying from my point of view, it would be a disadvantage for me to turn into a lesbian because i get influence easily.

  • babygirl045@xanga

  • gloria_0418@xanga

I went to a girl school for couple years
i like it better than coed school

  • phuck_diz_shiz@xanga

I love to go to an all girl school - cause theres always an all guy school near by
PLUS both private school have dances - so there's plenty of interactions

  • sparkletone1684@xanga

I've never been to an all-girls school... in high school or in college. and I thank God every day for that.

Would I ever go to an all-girls school if I was given that option? GOOD GRACIOUS NO!

  • SamiiSaysHaii@xanga

Nooo. I'm sorry, but all girls together at once don't always mesh very well. Plus, even though I can't date, I need to have guys around [not in the hoe-ish boy-crazy way] ahaha I love having guy friends ! They're always so amazing and super nice and funny.

  • NymphaeHecati@xanga

I don't go to an all-girls school, but I have been in all-girl classes.  I actually enjoyed the experience very much because you don't have the boys there being stupid and showing off.  It's much easier to communicate with the teacher and to get your questions answered.  It's much easier to get your work done and you have a whole lot less distractions.  So yeah, I'd go to an all-girls school.

I'm actually going to a women's college starting January. At first, I was so iffy about it just because it's all women, but after visiting I thought it was great. I was mostly worried about the cattiness that comes from being around only women, but I noticed that because it's such a highly-regarded college, most of the catty women are weeded out. Mount Holyoke College <3

  • msakiki@xanga

@xueyo@xanga - lol if you're THAT easily influenced then I would say you weren't totally straight to begin with =/

Anyway I go to a WOMEN'S college as we like to call it. I think it's great! We have such a strong community all about empowering women and making sure we get the best education. Sure there is drama but not nearly as much as you would think. And I can guarantee we don't have the "boy drama" that other co-ed colleges might have.  and I do have a boyfriend that I met a little less than a year ago. lol I go to an all girls school, not an all girls city :-p
  • xa06@xanga

Heh, I'd go only if there was an all-boys school right next door.

  • Insomnia_Pickles_XtraTomato@xanga

idk i never dated anyone at my regular public school, the only boy i ever kind of liked back then was in a different town entirely so. idk. dont think it'd have mattered. maybe. i might be forgetting my 16-year old hormonal perspective of the day.

  • dearFLOPPY@xanga

im not sure - i have 3 siblings and im the eldest. i went to a public school, and sometimes wished we had uniforms, just so i dont' have to pull out hairs every morning to figure out what to wear. my sister goes to an all girls private schools and she apparently doesn't mind. my brothers go to all guys schools, but they mind cause its a "homo" school. either way, these private schools have high educational institution ratings so...when applying for university it helps to grad from schools like those. but public school isn't so bad :P

  • xueyo@xanga

@msakiki@xanga - hahahaha. but i am sure i'm straight because i've never been attracted to girls before, i go crazy over guys only.
