If there's one thing that really makes me cringe, it's when I see a preppy chick strut by in a pair of Converse.
A perfectly new looking, spotless pair of Chuck Taylors. I look down at my feet...my trusty, well-worn high tops that have huge tears in the canvas, the once white rubber is now nicely yellowed, and frankly they should just be replaced (by another pair of high tops of course). The same shoe, but somehow a totally different meaning.
Converse have evolved into a complex American icon. The very first version of the All Star was a basketball shoe produced in 1917. Later they became the official sneaker of the US armed forces. The classic black and white high tops weren't created until after WW2. By the 70's their popularity dramatically increased. The shoes became very popular with rock musicians, and younger generations wore them for their distinctive looks, colors, and comfort and as an alternative to the high priced shoes made by Nike and other companies.
I wear my Chucks with pride, passion, and maybe a hint of rebellion, but how can i do that if more and more people are wearing them just because they think its fashionable? but they wear them as just another shoe and see them as another passing trend. It's almost a disgrace to this legend that has been around for nearly 8o years!
Maybe I'm just a little too crazy about my Converse, but they deserve to be appreciated.Do you wear Converse? Should only certain people wear them?

not a prep so I can wear mine:)
they're so comfy and cute.
I do wear converse... they're sneakers, I think anyone can wear them, imo. I hear like "emo" or "punk" people claiming it to be theirs... which I really don't get.
Get over it, really. There's no law dictating who is or isn't allowed to wear certain items, and there definitely shouldn't be.
everyone can wear them if they like to.they are just shoes lol
I have like 5 pairs of chucks and 5+ polos. It doesn't matter who wears what, as long as you wear it well :)
I have a pair of pink ones and people call me 'preppy', which was a word i didn't know meant that you couldn't wear a specific type of clothes or shoes. Are you saying that only people who don't know how to take care of their shoes and rip and dirty them can wear converse? Shoes are made for anyone to enjoy. This is like when people think a certain type of music is only allowed to people who represent that it, like classic rock can only be listened to by people with tattoos and long hair.
Well, I'm definitely considered to be a "prep" and I own 3 different pairs of Converse low top sneakers. This entry is more than a bit dramatic and ridiculous.
I think it's lame when people claim a certain article of clothing as part of their label just because. It makes them sound immature and silly.
It's actually a pet peeve of mine as well. I feel the same way about my chucks, especially when it comes to those "ghetto" girls that wear high tops and roll them down. That just aggravates the shit out of me! Wear them properly! I mainly see preps wearing them because they like some punk band, but they don't pull it off. I'm not a prep, and I don't wear Uggs. Please stay away from my chucks. :)
Does it matter who wears them? I mean, sure you have your attachment to yours, but keep that with you. Don't discriminate.
Should only certain people wear them?
wtf kind of question is that? some people like clean shoes, sheesh.
wow this post was so shallow it's unreal. stop stereotyping people, first off. it makes you sound rude and ignorant. second off, they are just shoes. i hope you discover the true important things in life that are actually worth worrying over some day.
Don't hate me but...I really don't like Chucks. The only reason I ever wore them was because I needed a pair of everyday shoes that would be acceptable with any outfit. They don't look good at all, imo, and I have since tried to branch out into other styles of shoe. She looks really off with the shoes and dress in that picture.
@Bunny_On_The_Fritz@xanga - Now, that's just tacky, you know? lol.
Did you ever think that the girls you see wearing brand new converse have actually been wearing them years, but desperately needed a new pair? I mean if you wear them every day, you will need a new pair at some point...
babe, i know how you feel, but my advice is, keep these little feelings to yourself (and not spread them out for the world wide web)
The only shoes I will wear are Converse. Everybody knows me as the "converse girl" with all the cool colored converse. The converse that really piss me off that just about EVERY prep has are the ones with a million different patterns on it and they have sparkles. Low tops of course. Whenever I see somebody wear them I just really want to go up and say something but I never would.
wow, this post is stupid and shallow and immature.
im DEFINITELY a prep, but i still love converse.
I think it's just how you wear it
you wear it one way and they wear it another way
who's to say a shoe is only for one group of people
dont trip too much
I'm sorry, but I have to agree. You can't dictate what someone wears. This post was really stereotypical.
they're just shoes....anyone can wear them as long as they can wear it right and it looks good.
I love my converse. Them and flip flops are the only shoes I wear. I love them. I will not buy black ones because everyone has them. I hate having things everyone has. My older ones has really big holes in them and are held together by awesome duct tape. I've never seen a prepp with converse but it would probably bother me to see that. But yeah they are just shoes and people can wear whatever shoes they want to wear.
They are shoes. Who tells someone else you can't wear them? I don't like dirty shoes. I clean my Vans, Converses and flip flops after every time I use them.
xo
boohoohoo.
i bought a pair once and they hurt my feet so much i didn't wear them more than twice.
I love my converse. and I agree with a fellow xangas on there. They're just shoes. Maybe you appreciate them more than others but oh well. All that matters is if they look good with your outfit.
