Is Dressing Alike Part of Friendship?
Years ago, my best friend and I would wear pretty similar clothes especially since there was a dress code enforced at school. Even when we went out partying, we would usually be decked in pretty similar (not identical!) outfits.
However, years went by and we eventually found our own identity and expressed it through our different wardrobes. This is not to say that I wouldn't ever wear anything she has in her closet, because there are staple pieces I like such as her black top, blue halter, etc. There are times where I would borrow a piece or two from her and if she needs to borrow a black dress from me, she is more than welcomed to.
I am one who is more into darker shades with tons of black, gray (all tones!), white and the occasional primary colors or whimsical pieces; while she is able to pull off most colors but isn't draped in dark shades as often as I am.
I tend to fancy simple pieces that are easy to match, timeless designs that don't really go out of style; while she goes for the little details such as buttons, frills, etc. Sometimes if you see us on the street, it does seem that we have such varied style from each other that it looks like we were from two different worlds.
Do you and your best friend/close friends dress alike? If so, is it because your influence on each other just rub off? Do you need to dress alike to feel like you guys are close?

One of my best friends & I have dressed similarly, just because we shop at the same places. My other best friend & I don't dress alike at all.
I think it's pretty normal to like the same things as your friends. My best friend and I mainly wear jeans and t-shirts/cute tops so yeah, we have many similar tops. My other really close friend is more conservative but I love the way she dresses, it's just not for me on most days, maybe when I dress up more it's a bit more like her.
All our outfits are kinda the same: skinny jeans and a vneck.
My other best friend and I don't dress alike AT ALL. I'm more of the solid, dull colors and she's the happy, playful colors.

my best friend and i don't always do it -- but on occasion we find ourselves dressing alike. one day she had a completely adorable outfit on, and so i decided to be as equally cute, but the only thing i had was a dress. so i wore a dress, got all dolled up, and then stepped out to ask her opinion. her opinion was "i hate you. i'm going to put on a dress now." so that night, we both wore dresses. we don't always do the same things, but it's for each other. whenever one wears a dress, the other does, and it's for a show that we are that close. that we would dress similar. before she and i became best friends, i was more of a t-shirt and jeans type of person, while she was a hollister, american eagle, abercrombie type of person, but then she and i got closer, and my wardrobe changed. i was wearing brighter colors, and dressier more-than-just-casual-tops. so i think it has to do with the fact being around each other rubs off on each other. but then other times we do it so people know we have that bond when we go out.

my friends and i haven't intentionally dressed alike since grade school.
Haha. This reminds me of these times in high school, where my friends and I didn't intentionally dress like. We just came to school and we had similar outfits on and the same color scheme too. People use to always ask if we planned it... but we honestly didn't. I think we just started to rub off on each other, after years of being friends (:
We dress alike occasionally, but that's because we both bought the same nerdy shirts.
Far from, certainly occasionally our styles may be similar
but she is more into layering because of her body shape
and im more into short skirts, short shorts, baggy tops, tight tees, singlet tops because of my body shape
which is another reason why we find it hard to share clothes, cause our bodies are quite extremely different
we don't do it intentionally, but there are times we'll just be walking and someone will notice and comment about our similarities in outfit. we could probably share clothes, but hers are more revealing, as her body is better than mine so she'll borrow my clothes but i rarely ask for hers.
lol When we were younger and in school we would coordinate, but not match exactly. Still I find it funny when most of the office just happens to be wearing the same color shirt and sometimes the whole outfit coordinates by accident.

I have three best friends, and I don't do that with any of them, or even with any of my close friends. hahaha.
@fivepointfourtwo@xanga - haha. me too! my best friend and i would meet up (we don't see each other as often anymore) and there's always something similar with what we're wearing! like if i'm in a polo shirt or maybe the color pink for my top, she has that too!
my best friend dresses a little more grunge than i do (grey skinny jeans and band tees), and i'm more of an Abercrombie & Fitch girl.
..who has a tendency to wear leather and 5 inch heels.
i think it's cute and all right if you like it - neither of my two best friends and i dress especially alike. one friend is really laid back and doesn't wear cute clothes much (and i'm all about the cute clothes... lol), the other tends to be more formal than me. it looks good on her, but i just never end up buying clothes that are like that. i go for a more bohemian style than she does.
i dont mind it if it's once in a while sort of thing,
when you both dress alike every single day, its kind of bothersome.i have found that me and my friends have some style things in common, and other things that are personally ours. we look like we go together but don't get matchy matchy, and we also all know eachother's tastes in clothing.

My best friend is a total jock and wears sweatpants alot. No matter where we are when we're shopping, she will find sweatpants!!! But she is started to wear clothes like mine but we still have our own styles. I don't really dress like my friends though, they are more laid back, and kinda lazy haha
Most of my friends and I don't have the same styles, so we don't dress the same or even alike, but sometimes we have pieces that the others would like and vice versa. We all developed our own styles based on our personalities, so dressing alike wouldn't reflect who we are.
One of my best friends and I used to dress really similarly. We'd even buy the same shirt by accident.
