  • What's Considered "Whorish"?

Browsing through the web and observing in school, I noticed that the word "whore" is tossed around like a hot potato. Here is what a "whore" is considered to be, wear, do, etc:

    Wearing makeup.

Apparently, confidence makes you a "whore, slut, skank."

    Holding hands.

    A simple peck.

    Fitted clothes.

    Taking pictures in lingerie.

    Having a lot of attention.

    Is this always the case?
    I don't think so.
Most of time the girl being called a "whore" is the center of an unwanted attack.

What do you consider "skanky/whorish"? And have you noticed any sexism in this generation?

You can get a decent job without being a whore. And yes I consider strippers as whores too even if they don't sleep around. They are showing off their beauty that should only be for their husband's eyes alone not for other men to gawk at and pay  money to see!  There is an old saying that a free woman would rather starve then show her breasts so what about her private parts then?

@InTheThin@xanga - lmao at least she's good looking, right?

  • chadwilly@xanga

I've never called anyone a whore, but i dont really name call ever. A woman would have to do a lot to be called a whore by me, in fact i just think its a bit of a crap insult.

Whore,..many times,..is a word that is used on others just to attack and humiliate another person.

Actually, the word becomes what the victim decides that word should be.  I've seen a shy girl,..called a whore,..who gained confidence from being called a "ho!"  She finally realized that she was a sexy and desirable girl and tweaked up her appearance a bit to the point that she became the competition that the "popular girls,"...who had tried to degrade her by calling her a "whore" in the first place!!  She became what they most feared!!  She became  the "competition" that they were trying to prevent!!

On the other hand I've seen girls and boys,..who were called.."ho's"..and who by utterlly devastated by being called such a name!!

As a former high school teacher,..I've seen girls,..who never even dated called whore just because a "popular girl" and her "in=group" decided that the girl that they were calling a whore could develope into competition!!

I've seen young men call perfectly innocent and chaste girls.."whores or "ho's"..just because the guy figures that if he happened to ask the girl out,..he'll never REALLY have a chance with her and so he calls her a nasty name so that he can use the nasty name as an "EQUALIZER" BETWEEN HIMSELF AND THE GIRL!!

Just who is a "whore" depends on the person,..who has been insulted,..what they decide to do about being called such a name,..and the surrounding circumstances!!

I only agreed with one.  The pictures in lingerie.

  • King_of_Fools@datingish

@annawolfy@xanga - It's true, I don't think I've ever come across anyone I know or myself calling someone a whore in a serious manner.

  • its_whateverrrr@xanga

it doesn't have anything to do with the way you dress or how much makeup you wear. when i think of "whore" i think, someone who has sex with anyone&everyone she can and is proud of it. people use the word so much, whether the person they're calling a whore is actually a whore or not. i've been called a whore countless times and i'm not someone who has sex with anyone&everyone..so basically everyone has a different definition of the word or it's just something girls call other girls to piss them off.

Makeup... I have a friend who I just LOVE and she was told that someone thought she was slutty/whorish just because she wore a lot of black eye liner. She always wears it... I've actually never seen her w/o it, lol. I shudder to think what would happen if she ever ran out! There'd be an emergency trip to MAC I think, lol. But makeup in no way indicated what type of a person lies within.

Taking pictures in lingerie is whorish, I agree. Except for when it has to do with Rocky Horror Picture Show. (But maybe I'm just biased because I LOVE RHPS. <333)
    xD;;

I think a whore is someone who gives it up for some sort of payment - - it could be money, it could be shelter, it could be anything.  When you use sex a payment for anything, then the relationship is not based on a mutual love between the partners.  It is a business transaction which in essence constitutes prostitution.

Now, having said that, I should add that I love to sing karaoke and whenever someone asks me to sing with them I always agree whether I know the song or not because I love being up there at the microphone.  Therefore I have dubbed myself as a "mike whore."  But that is really a totally different concept.  And I think that is the whole jist of this thread.  The concept of whore is really so broad that it could apply to just about anyone/anything.

And sometimes it is said in jest and means nothing.  Sometimes it is said in anger or jealousy and might just mean you don't like someone's actions.  Sometimes it is said for attention, to command attention to what you are saying (just like using the "f" word commands attention to your statement sometimes).

Are there real whores out there in this world?  Oh yeah.  Are they easily identified in society?  Some of them, I would say, are.  Some are so masterfully camoflauged that they might never be pointed out as what they really are.  Do we throw words around carelessly in an effort to hurt others?  Oh yes, most definitely, all the time.

And have you noticed any sexism in this generation?

Everyone, including me, has ignored this quesiton in the original post.  So here is my answer.  Yes, there is sexim in every generation.  There always has been and there always will be.  Whether we like it or not, and whether we tolerate it well or not, it is part of our human weakness.  We can try to be above it, but it will always lurk around the corner.

Kay. Posting pictures of you in your underwear is slutty. What is the point except to be a slut? No one's like, "I'm gonna post these sexy pictures because my friends who are girls will think it's cute!"

  • milubbles@xanga

    @Zipporiah@xanga -

I saw that. Lol, it's because they edited out some "crucial" information. :/

"What I don't get is why mostly only women get called this. If a man has had 17 partners for the past week, he's considered "special" and "cool". BUT when a girl has two lovers in one year, she's inevitably a "whore"."
    That's what was left out.
  • angesansailes@xanga

it's just another way to help insecure girls cope. get over it!

  • mywordsx@xanga

    Ahaha, Lee Hyori!

I think girls that wear too much make up, gets too much attention from their "guy friends", wear super tight clothings revealing their butt/breasts are whores. :D

  • xjadersx@xanga

Someone who sells them self would be a whore. Um I also consider someone a whore when they sleep with a lot of people. Be it male of female for both.

I hate how there are so many stereotypes that make a woman a whore, but when it comes to men I can't think of any. It's been brought up lately a lot too. Tramp stamps, and tongue piercings make a girl a whore apparently. What makes a guy a whore? Eye brow rings? Pfft. Come on. A tattoo or a piercing does not make someone a whore. It's how they act that makes them a whore.

  • xsPoNgEs_go_SQUISHx13@xanga

last time i checked, 'whore' means 'person who gets money for sexual favors'

some wives, therefore, are whores ;D

  • BlehhItsTu@xanga

I'd take offense if someone I knew called me a whore.

Because I'm far from being one. :\

  • saintxgutfree@xanga

i had someone tell me in middle school that holding hands is against the law in the bible.

    um. ok. haha

I think wearing lingerie and taking pictures in it isn't very whorish unless you're putting them out for all the world to see....
    Then it's whorish.

  • SexyScience@xanga

well...the word now days usually refers to a girl who either sells her dignity with unnecessary attention from guys or a girl who dresses exposingly and has sex all the time... i don't really know what to refer whore to :\

  • Abrilsuka@xanga

its not all about how you look or what you do, its how you act, i wear lots of make up, but be sure im not easy even with my bf, but some girls use all that make up as a teaser to get the man, wearing tight clothes doens makes you are whore either, its how you use it, as holding hands and kissing and stuff has nothing to do with been a whore, unless it happens you are kissing someone else's bf and as for the pictures, im afraid those indeed make you a whore, i mean, most of the girls who do that dont have a real reason to do that and on top of that they are 15 or 16 and i hate that >..<"
