  • What's Considered "Whorish"?

Browsing through the web and observing in school, I noticed that the word "whore" is tossed around like a hot potato. Here is what a "whore" is considered to be, wear, do, etc:

    Wearing makeup.

Apparently, confidence makes you a "whore, slut, skank."

    Holding hands.

    A simple peck.

    Fitted clothes.

    Taking pictures in lingerie.

    Having a lot of attention.

    Is this always the case?
    I don't think so.
Most of time the girl being called a "whore" is the center of an unwanted attack.

What do you consider "skanky/whorish"? And have you noticed any sexism in this generation?

I thought JLo looked like a crack whore withOUT make-up

Ok then I'm a whore because I like dressing up for the Rocky Horror Show although hey there are people that wear star wars, lord of the rings and harry potter gear and they surely are not whores....right? Rocky Horror is a film that became a large broadway show

the former question is a total slap in the face to the latter. merely asking that reinforces sexism by asking the reader to entertain the bigoted thought process that begot such labels in the first place. -__-\ i thought we were trying to get past them.

I hate to use a cliché, but a whore is as a whore does.  To me, a whore is a person (male or female) who uses sex as a means of gain (whether monetary or otherwise).  Perhaps the wider use of the word would be comparable to tramp or slut: someone who uses people to get sex.  Not quite the same, and not really much to do with anything outside of actions.  Just for an extreme example: A girl can be camwhore without actually being a whore/slut/etc.  Showing herself naked on the internet does not necessarily preclude sexual relations nor does it necessarily imply a desire to have sex with anyone much less multiple partners.  Same goes for all of this stuff above.  Just because you look like you walked off the set of Rocky Horror Picture Show (or really did!), that shouldn't imply anything else.

Of course, these types of stereotypes start for a reason.  I'd be lying if I didn't detect a general lack of interest in long term meaningful relationships.

I don't know about being whorish, but that girl in the lingerie is wearing some hideous shoes.

  • Rodeney123@xanga

There is nothing wrong with a whore because the whore puts out whereas the slut is unkept and unclean, and then there's the prostitute that sells you sexual disease. I prefer the whore to be related to a "ten" - sexually aggressive.

  • kaitikilljoyxo@xanga

    Whorish is a relative term.
It depends on who's saying it & how insecure they are about themselves.

That's why it's not an effective insult anymore.

  • angelld@xanga

i think the term is meant to imply when a girl seems like she is sexually promiscuous

  • Smithy_25395@xanga

last time i checked a whore is a girl who has sex with random people for money.

The defintion of "whore" really depends on the person saying it. In my eyes, it's mostly the way the person acts and presents themselves. It's not just wearing makeup, or just wearing tightly fitted, way-to-small clothing- its all those physical things, combined with a certain trashy attitude that makes them a whore. It differs from being a slut- which is just sleeping with way too many people/being way too promiscous. A whore is all about the attitude.

Don't know.  Seems to me that how one dresses, carries oneself, displays affection or sexuality, is purely an individual surface thing which differs vastly by culture, gender, and age group and for which a simple minded appellation like "whore" is woefully inadequate (read "ignorant" in the same way that substituting normal language for swear words is) and deliberately offensive.  Those behaviors do not begin to circumscribe the actual person beneath that dipictor. I wouldn't use that word to describe anyone unless I were really pissed off at them and wanted to insult them to their face... which isn't likely to happen.  Words like that are curses considering that in most places they can result in getting a woman sidelined by society and in some places can even get her killed.  Call a Muslimah a whore and her own male family members are likely to murder her in cold blood.  Ironically, it's called "Honor Killing."  You shouldn't bandy curses about because curses can rebound on you and usually do and if you treat others like that then you deserve no better.

While I think "whore" and "slut" are set in their definitions they are used VERY loosely. People will stop at nothing to degrade someone. The terms are RARELY used with actual consideration of validity.

  • sparkylightning540@xanga

a whore is someone who is intentionally promiscuous and likes to be all over guys when she is with someone or when they are with someone.

not just someoen who is a typical girl, sheesh.

  • didibabez@xanga

I was called a whore by my friend's sister because I lost weight and don't look like a dumpling like her.  gosh.... can't people be more nice when using words.

  • strawberi_heaven@xanga

i think being a whore is based on how you act rather than how you look

  • cutesycharm@xanga

It's hard to tell from pictures if someone is whorish, you need to be around them to judge their person and how they act.

  • whowantstoloseit@xanga

I wouldn't call it sexism, mostly based on the fact that I hear more girls calling other girls whores, rather than guys. But maybe that's not true for everyone.

  • tinyfleur@xanga

whore to me, basically means you "want alot"
of what? it depends who's being called a whore and for what reason.

  • aurastar@xanga

There is a difference between having confidence and faking confidence.

And there is a difference between a whore and a slut.  People are using the wrong word, weather these girls are actually what they are being called or not.  Being a whore is respectable, to a degree.  It may be illegal, but it's still a job.  A job that many do not turn to unless it's a last resort or they are forced into it.  They're just trying to make a living however they can, and that's not something to be degraded for, depending on the circumstances.  Being a slut is different.  It means you just sleep around.  It's not for a cash flow.  It's just for the enjoyment of it or some sort of satisfaction.

I don't think you can judge someone to be a "whore" based on things like that, except maybe the lingere.  I've met a couple girls that are like that who are actually quite respectable young ladies, if not a little confused, though not in a way that they could actually be a slut or whore.  Though it is a steriotype for a reason.  The majority of girls that sleep around or whatever or do things that could actually qualify them as a slut often have these... er... traits.  Not all of them, but enough.  And since society pushes the idea of being "sexual" or acting in ways that are similar to how sexual people behave as something many girls should be, that's why many girls try to be that.  For acceptance.

I consider any woman a whore who sleeps around, puts out every time she sees a boy, traps a guy into having a baby that he doesn't want, dresses in skanky clothing like form fitting clothes or sexy lingerarie, people like Britney Spears, J-LO, Hannah Montannah, Christian Augerlaria (however you spell her name), girls who brag about how many boys they fucked, etc.  Makeup isn't confidence.  It's low self esteem. Be happy with the beauty God gave you and don't try to change that natural beauty!
