If you've been on Xanga long enough (or even if you've just started), you would've noticed that there is an
unusually large amount of Asians here (cool!). Many of these Asian girls will have profile pictures that look a little something like this:
At first when I saw these girls, I was shocked. They have HUMONGOUS eyes! Soo scary, but in a cute way. Then I wondered... how come I don't see these people in real life? Where can I find an Asian with huge eyes? (just kidding just kidding just kidding...not really...)
So then, I became engorged into this phenomenon. I found out that these girls were called "ulzzang" by the general public, meaning "best face" in korean (huh?).
It's cute, no? But honestly, if I ever saw one of these girls in real life I think I would
freak out and run to the nearest exit...because it just doesn't look real! So after seeing a whole bunch of photos of these extra cute big-eyed asian girls, I felt inspired.
Hmm...
I'm Asian, they're Asian...
They can do it...so therefore I should be able to do it too!
After doing some
"research" (aka looking through google images...), I have compiled a
list of requirements an ulzzang should have.-big eyes (duh)
-extremely small/disproportional mouths
-cute poses
and....that's basically it!
Soo...this is my attempt at becoming an Ulzzang. normal me. What I look like...
most of the time haha!
After I dowse myself in makeup (it really is necessary)...
white eyeliner on bottom and black eyeliner on top to make my eyes look bigger. And blush. Because cute girls are supposed to blush. duh!
Now the hard part is posing for the picture. Mind you, I had to think ridiculously cute thoughts while doing this. It was...bad.
I changed the coloring in the pictures, because THIS
does not actually look like that in real life.
I messed around with the settings and found that increasing the
gamma (?) and the
contrast (?) did a pretty good job.
I needed part of my hello kitty collection to fuel the fake cuteness. The posing is pretty simple, actually. There is only one rule:

The generic angle is achieved by placing the camera at a
45 degree angle above your eye level...and looking up at the camera. (
what a nerd...).
It's is very similar to the
infamous Myspace Angle, except that in myspace angle photos, there's supposed to be a hint of sexy in them...in ulzzang photos, they aren't supposed to have any hints of sex in them,
unless you think cute little girls are...sexy. 
Also, posing with random objects is highly popular. Making weird hand signals are also cool too. There's a boundary between cute and scary...and I totally just crossed it.

'Ulzzang' thing.
I applaud the many thousands of boys and girls that ARE; you people truly inspire me ever single day. 
But for now, I think I'll just stick to staying myself.

Seriously? Those circle lens things are something I've never seen before. As for giant eyes, some expert work in photoshop would make those suckers pop out like saucers. I'm not buying it for a minute. Though you gotta give them credit for being able to hole their cute face and open their eyes super wide and strike those awkward hand poses and balance random cute objects from morning glory in their other hand while snapping away with that Canon. Too much work imho.
I'm an Asian, but i don't like ulzzang. A little bit of it may be nice, but sometimes people are over-doing it...

awh ur second last picture is cute. for some reason i think all the ulzzang also have nice and longer hair. i dont see too many asains with long hair so i think the hair has a lot to do with it to?

I have friends that do this... even when I'm trying to take their picture, they get UNDER the camera and PEER up to achieve the angle. They LOVEEEE to top it off with PEACE signs! And a little pursing of the lips to look extra cartoonish. While there are worse things to be known for as a woman of a race...
it's annoying.

haha i laughed at those observations you have said.
They have large eyes because they wear the special kind of contacts...if you want to look like them, you're going to have to put those on! Haha. Oh, and proper makeup application skills makes a WORLD of difference....with false lashes of course!
Why do you want to be "cut out" for this ulzzang thing? Do you want to look forced and cutesy? I don't get why they're an inspiration to you. What have these faces in profile pictures done to inspire others? To have bigger eyes? You're giving a picture too much credit.

I've been meanig to try those circle lense but they're too expensive to buy (yes, I'm cheap =D).

But they also use things like.. make up [eye shadowssss], hair extensions, anglesss, and the most important one. If you don't have big eyes use eye glues to pull up your fold and bring out sparkles with contacts!

Ulzzang scares me. [Sorry if I'm not using the term correctly.] It's just too unnatural. Your attempt was as good as they get, though. Your eyes looked like they exploded. It was really intense.

They don't naturally have huge eyes. They all wear Circle Lens, a type of contact lens' that make your eyes seem HUGE. Just google it, you'll see what I mean. (:
