Did You Wear High Heels in High School?

School is starting pretty soon. I'm going to be a senior, so I really want to dress more mature and sophisticated. I'm already doing my new school wardrobe shopping. I was wondering, would it be okay to wear high heels in school? Most of my wardrobe consists of skinny jeans and high heels. I don't want to spend the whole year wearing sandals. I don't wear sneakers or tennis shoes.

Some obstacles would obviously be stairs, the amount of time spent walking from classroom to classroom, and whether the faculty would judge high heels as inappropriate.

Did you ever wear high heels in high school? Did you ever have problems with this?

why no tennis shoes or sneakers

    converse are not the devil

Another obstacle could be the loud *clack clack * of your shoes as you walk around campus. That draws a lot of attention

Are you kidding me? I wear heels EVERY DAY in my school. It's given me a reputation as the girl who always wears heels, and I like it. Nobody looks down on it, they just say I always wear really nice shoes. Go for it.

(Some people are naturally good at wearing heels, like me, so I don't have trouble getting to classes.)

You have to wear an outfit that is dressy enough to match the dressiness of the heels. If you wear a t-shirt and jeans with your heels, it probably won't look right. Another thing is that your level of dressing up will be established and if you don't keep it up and suddenly start wearing sneakers again, people will consider that you dressed down from normal. It will become your norm to wear high heels and it won't be considered dressed up or special occasion because you wear it all the time.

I personally wore boots a few times during the winter and I matched it with some dressy winter city wear, but otherwise, I wore flat shoes. Stairs definitely don't help you.

I don't wear heels, but I know a lot of people who wear them to school. I'd reccomend wearing lower heels though; they seem more school-appropriate than gigantic stilletos.

I wore heels a lot in high school. I worked at Bakers so I got a 50% discount on fabulous boots in the winter (mostly with heels, of course), strappy sandels in the spring, etc. etc. etc. I really think they can go with anything, even jeans and a tee....one of my favorite looks is skinny ankle jeans paired with either a heeled ankle boot or strappy heels. I became known as the fashion girl....I went all out with my outfits and didn't really care about looking normal, I was just super trendy to the point of looking just a little odd. It's high school, and your last year. Have fun with it!

I wore some heels, but definitely not pumps or anything too dressy.  I agree with Meowmeowkimmaee, it should match with what you're wearing well.  I personally think heels and jeans are a little tacky.

No, I didn't. I'm a casual person and always have been - if I wanted to look good, I looked good to me, for me and that usually wound up being in the form of a t-shirt, jeans, and flats/sandals/runners. If it's not practical, I would never do something for the sake of looking any certain way to people I might never see again after this year. I see some younger people around who are still in high school and they'd be wearing heels around the school, and I always thought it was a bit much. It's just high school, after all.

I don't think heels automatically = mature or sophisticated. If heels are comfortable for you, and practical for your everyday wear at school, through classes, through the halls, and up and down stairs, then by all means wear them! If not, honestly, the only one really concerned about the way you dress yourself up or down is you.

You have plenty of time ahead of you to look, be, act, etc. mature. People these days try and grow up too fast and make big deals out of trivial decisions, but too many older people look back on when they could dress themselves lazily in 45 seconds for their everyday tasks and miss what it was like being young and carefree!

I think wearing heels gives the effect of "trying too hard" and guys don't typically find that attractive.

Wear what makes you feel you! I wore heels sometimes -- and people from my small town would wonder what the occasion was but to me, it just felt like something I wanted to wear. Of course there are times when they are going to be uncomfortable so I definitely recommend wearing comfortable high heels (if that's even possible, haha) but don't let other people influence what you do and don't wear. If you feel hot wearing them and know how to show them, live it up girl! =)

i'm in high school. and i don't wear high heels. i probably only own one pair of heels.. i like clothes that make me feel comfortable.

  • niceBrice@xanga

I've never worn high heels because I'm a guy and I'm not Prince.

  • sushi_porfavor@xanga

I wore high heels every now and then when I was in high school (which
was only two years ago), but they did cause me a lot of problems. My
science teachers gave me a lot of hoo ha if they werent close toed. Plus my school had a big campus so by the end of the day I would always regret wearing them. I think
its fine really, but you don't have to wear high heels to look more mature and if you have one of those colorful backpack it might just look like you're trying too hard. Have you considered shopping for ballet flats, or sandals?
They can be classy without putting your comfort on the line. and if you really want to look more mature diversify your clothing since you already have a majority of skinny jeans and high heels, buy more dresses and tights or high waist pencil skirts. But you don't necessarily need these to look more mature.

  • n1colee@xanga

Yes, I wear heels to school about 1-2x a week.

  • B1ANCACACA@xanga

If you're good at walking in heels I say go for it :)  When I was in high school lots of girls wore heels.

  • lyratjoe@xanga

    nope
but i would wear wedges, flip flops and flats to school.
wear shoes that are comfortable. :D

  • storiesandsinker@xanga

I have no problem with sneakers and tennis shoes so I just wear those.
I don't think I've ever really worn high heels. They're pretty, but eh... I find my shoes more comfy.

If you want to wear high heels though, that's cool. A lot of girls at my high school wore high heels and they looked really good in them. Though, you could always just get a really cute pair of flats... Just wear what makes you happy and comfortable.

I actually have worn heels when I was in high school, and I liked it. I gained more respect and it added a more professional sense which was extremely handy for presentations and it boosts confidence. But if you really imagine the trends and wardrobe nowadays, it's not much of a stand out or a knock out; it's pretty neutral.

Do what you think is most comfortable and more towards your heart's liking. :3

  • aiinos@xanga

Im in high school right now and don't wear them unless I'm going to a formal event. Like this year I went to the Military Ball and junior prom with one of my closest guy friends. Thats probably the only time I'll wear them. Theyre a pain for me.

  • estherly26@xanga

i would re think the whole high heel thing.
this teen pagent winner always wore heels to school and in the flippin winter too... and fell flat on her face. Of course there is nothing wrong with wearing heels. do what you want. there are plenty of girls who do that. but buy yourself a nice pair of comfortable shoes. there is gonna be a day where your just going to go "fuck it" and wear sweats. and still look cute! good luck
